Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

So when exactly does the cloning process take place? I should at least get myself to my "system of choice" (I recently went on an unplanned startrip into the black) before this cloning happens, so that if someday I do switch to 4.0, my CMDR will at least be where I want him.

My assumption is that I still have time, though not much.

Yeah that's my situation too. I was on the quite opposite side of the galaxy when all this news broke so now I'm stuck having to fly my CMDR back to the bubble twice if I want her in the bubble in Legacy Mode at some point.

So it seems that we have to install Horizons 4.0 in order to keep playing 3.8... That just seems bolloks to me..

Did I use that term right? I'm American, LOL, despite my avatar.
Indeed you might even say that it's absolute bolloks!!

P.S. I'm not British either, but I'm fairly close to them!

(Hmm, it seems we have to leave out the "c" to join the crowd! - but what if I want to talk about The Sex Pistols only album?! 😯😂)
😯😂😀🤘

Close, I'm not British either, but it is spelled with a c between the o and the k, though that gets it blocked by the profanity filter!

2. not update their reviews after patches have happened that fix a lot of the issues they likely initially had problems with
None of the fundamental things that annoyed me have been fixed.
  • graphics downgrade
  • performance downgrade
  • hundreds of new bugs
  • still the same old bugs
  • REGRESSION BUGS that had been fixed on 3.8 already
  • no new space flight content in a space flight sim
  • basically alpha quality product
Edit: kindergarten level word filter …

The Graphics downgrade is subjective on your part. I personally think they're improved.

What are these hundreds of new bugs?

Well, I wasn't aiming for profanity (doesn't sound profane rolling off the tongue), but on the other hand a profanity-laced response would be appropriate regarding the necessity to install a 50 GB game (70+ GB total) I don't want in order to keep playing the 20 GB game I already own.

Improved!!! What do you mean!!!
I've got PS4 with a wonderful immersive space sim.
I've got EDH3.8 on GeforceNow on my old laptop or new shiny ShieldTV with a wonderful immersive space sim.
Then there is (as of today before U14,) EDH4.0 with coarse, blocky VGA type graphics with an absolutely appalling immersion breaking space sim (tried mining with Night Vision and PWA Scanner - aaaaaaaaaaaarggh).

On install sizes, when Elite launched on PS4 it was nice and small, about 15 gigs, but of course (if you can remember that far back! 😯😂), we can't do custom installs on consoles and have to accept everything that's in a particular patch, no matter how much or little the additions in said patch may do for us or how much we're interested in them!
(For example, I'd love to drop "Ultimate Team" from FIFA installs, but can't and indeed I miss the early days when "Ultimate Team" was an optional extra dlc to download and not a default part of the main game! 😯😂)

For example, not long after the PS4 launch, there was a big patch that basically doubled the games' install size, however all it really contained were additional languages, which as said, you couldn't decide for yourself did you wanted to install one or any of them!

That patch left the game install at around 29gb and during the Beyond updates, the game increased in size to around 35gb, where it has basically stayed...

You're probably lucky to have been able to keep the PC install to about 20gb, but I'm surprised then if you're suddenly being forced to install another 50gb with no choice, if ye always had one before?! 😯😀🤘

Are we starting the Bingo Card early?

O7

Question -- so far I havent installed 4.0.
Should I do that before the official switch to Live/Legacy, or doesn't it matter if I do that later that week?

Some games do let you manage their installs. Halo: The MCC for example. Lets you choose not to install each individual campaign or multiplayer component, so if you don't PVP you only need to install the campaigns, if you believe Halo 3's multiplayer is the one true way to experience pvp, you only need that installed, if you aren't fussed for the Master Chief, or prefer Firefight, you can only install Reach and ODST

One reason for some of the overly large installs is that PS5, unlike XBox, has a 64GB limit for DLC sizes. Any additional DLCs that go over that, the console cannot see. Dovetail Games have spent months working on a bespoke software workaround for this in Train Sim World as each route DLC for that game is around 5GB, so to install all of it on an XBox or PC takes around 200GB, meaning if they were to use the standard solution many devs do for this of bundling everything in a single install and having 10MB "unlocker" DLCs, players who only own 5GB worth of DLC would need to install an additional useless 195GB of content they cannot use

I apologize if my questions below have been addressed. I scanned the comments and couldn't find the answers.

Questions:
  1. Will my credit and fleet carrier maintenance fee be different in Live and Legacy modes?
  2. If I am very active in Live mode, but inactive in Legacy mode, but months later log into Legacy mode, what will my credit balance and carrier status look like in Legacy mode?
  3. Monthls from now, will I be broke in Legacy, with a decommissioned fleet carrier?

I like the general idea of a legacy mode for players who enjoy that old time flavor. However, I would prefer not having to worry about my Legacy account if I'm not going to use it.

Again, if this has been addressed, and I missed it, sorry.
