Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

It isnt. Im talking about the base game which doesnt include Horizons.

FWIW, the base game and Horizons was the same version of the game with certain features disabled. So if the old computer could play the base game, it will play Legacy Horizons exactly the same.

The base game does have lighter requirements than Horizons. In some cases (PCs with only 4GB of ram and/or internal graphics only) it can be the only option that runs.

Nonsense. Exaggeration for a bit of player drama and motivation. A BGS system that they're actively tweaking in order for it to not become to overwhelming for the playerbase actually interested in defeating it.
How could something that is being coded to specifically not win ever win?

Canonically, taking into consideration everything they wrote about the Thargoids in years of narrative, they would be able to flood and annihilate us without even trying hard.
Now after the initial rebalancing, all of sudden, they have to "spread out forces" between eight maelstroms. What? Are there too few Thargoids? Did they die of old age? Are the freaky fast reproducing drones not reproducing fast enough on board the hiveship? Or, if it's witchspace gates, do they only have one entrance and eight exits? It's ridiculous and shows that our defeat was never an option to begin with.
The guy on the video bounced up and down on the couch so hard, the springs broke... "We'll Kill You All!"

Fortunately, we have Ian Doncaster to straighten things out.

Hi, I am a original Kickstarter backer with an all access account, so have been playing for 9 years. Is there any way I can have an 'Alt', like many other MMORPG's? I have bought all the ships, fully speced out and engineered, and am elite in all the catagories I am interested in. I also have 27 billion credits. I have no real interest in the Thargoid story line or the 1st person shooter on planet surfaces. I just like to keep on space trucking, lol. I enjoy 'the grind' as most other players would seem to have it. I fondly remember the 1985 iteration, and quite like a slow pace. I would like the option of starting from scratch, without retiring my commander, in case any update in the future does pique my interest. Can I make a legacy account, then restart that account without affecting the live account commander?

Legacy is now entirely disconnected from the Live game and a Legacy CMDR was created (with the current rank etc. at the time of the snapshot) to enable players to use either or both 'accounts'.
So, yes, you have a Legacy 'alt', and are able to reset that one, if you wish, without affecting your current CMDR.

Are you absolutely sure about this? Just went in to legacy to restart my account, panicked, and chickened out 😟

As Rat Catcher said, everybody with at least one commander in Elite either had it duplicated in such a way that their assets and playthrough would continue as normal in "legacy" mode and also continue separately in "live" mode, assuming they had a PC powerful enough to play Elite version 4.0 could play the new content straight away, or had the option to any!....

While if they don't yet, the copy is sitting waiting for the time that they possibly do and can play it...

For those of us on consoles it worked a little differently - indeed technically Frontier gave us free copies of Elite to claim on PC if we wish to, to make up for cancelling console development, however our progress didn't automatically and instantly copy over...

We had a very short window in which to choose the point at which our progress was possibly copied over, however that process was suspended when the new patch went live, while a new more limited copy process has yet to start being offered again...

So as it is, as a console commander, I have kept playing Elite in "legacy" mode as normal since the split happened, while even though I don't really play games on PC and have no intention to start playing Elite on PC, "for science" I copied my account on the last night that the full copy was possible and it's sitting there waiting for me, just in case I ever "turn to the dark side"!

So in closing, if you're an "old" Elite Dangerous player, we all have our progress sitting safe and sound in "legacy " mode and if you're a PC commander have the same progress copied up to the point the two versions of the game were a thing, while if you're a console commander, you might have your basically* full commander copied over to PC, in both "legacy" and "live" mode, if I didn't say that already, IF you preformed the copy process when it was offered, if not you've to wait for the more limited copy transfer to be offered, whenever that is!

*The few things that didn't carry over in the old console to PC copy process were fleet carriers, fighter crew and squadron data, but as said everything else did, while we don't know how limited the new copy process will be - indeed before the briefly offered full copy process, the even older transfer process was pretty bad, it ONLY transferred the value of all your credits and owned ships and modules etc AND deleted all your old data, so really wasn't recommended! 😯😂🩲 ...

Anyway, here we are - hopefully, however vaguely for console development to "restart", but mostly start playing the old game on our systems of choice as normal, assuming that we didn't want to play on PC! 😯😂😀🤘 .

Actually the FC did copy across - I now have 3!
(you didn't decommission yours, did you? oh dear)
One on PS, one on PC Legacy and one on PC Live (all with 5 years upkeep funds) together with 3 fleets of ships, if I ever need to go back to them for any reason!
It also copied my Fighter Pilot NPC at Elite, no idea about squadrons though.

Thank You FDev!

I never had one to decommission in the first place (while indeed according to the trophy for buying one, only 0.5% of Playstation commanders have bought one yet! 😯😂🩲 ...

While if they did copy over, I guess that that's good, however it conflicts with the announcement of the full copy process, so indeed I know many commanders who did want to transfer either completely or for the most part to PC DID decommission theirs because of it, but oh well, at least they got most of the credits they spent on their carriers back for doing so! 😯😂🩲😀🤘 .

o7 CMDRs

Do you know if clearing the game in Legacy or Live affect the other mode ?
Can i clear my Legacy game to start again in Legacy while my Live status stay as-is ?
Or clearing one mode clear both ?

Another question also : I play on PC and i have a friend playing on PS4, can i play with him in Legacy ?
