Update 18 | Update Notes

Given they barely had the concept art for the Python Mk II ready for the last livestream I had no expectation of it arriving with update 18. Some great little fixes in these patch notes tho and love the light tone of the patch notes. Good stuff ... can't wait to see what came with those 30GB! One of the coolest things Tom Kewell ever worked on ... what could it be?

I'm ready... I have a nice big hard drive for this 30GB update.

Hi :)

I've changed the description of the Diamondback Explorer because it is far too early on a Monday morning to be arguing about the correct abbreviation. I need at least 3 more coffees before we go down this route.

Quick!...grab yourself a double Scotch as well! :D

"Fixed a problem with the DiamondBack Explorer Science Survey shipkit not retaining the correct paintjob colours".
Just trying to help you out here, on this merry morning. ;)......:devilish:.....:D

Jack :)

dagnamit:mad: i was hoping for a major fix to the Christmas Jumper cosmetic items
next year perhaps....................
Too bad. Only got a minor fix. Could be a weighting issue, though.
I have no idea why the 2 issues from the issue tracker were not game breaking fixes such as the missiles.... Who ever selected these to fix......
Fixes are applied in order of finding the cause of the bug and ease of fixing it. An easier to fix bug is more likely to find its way into the next update than one that needs extensive rework of the underlying structure. Sadly, we players can't determine from the outside, just looking at the bug as it appears in the game, if it is an easy fix or not.

I'm a little bit sad not to see fixes for certain bugs like the M missile bug (My beloved Cutter refuses to fire one rack still), or the SLF fighter pilot bug. As goes for not starting the update cycle with a bang named Python MkII. Honestly? It really depends on how the rest will go, though the bounty fix and the fire group fix will surely be a welcome sight.
It will be funny if the missile bug affects the new nanite torps as well. :)

So does this mean going forwards the Titans will be occasional but fully automated BGS events? As in, every so often a new one will appear and cleared using the established game-loop we see?

I never took that message as an indication that i will have to slow down, but a notification that i'm being slowed down
After nearly 10 years of a confusing message I am not suprised you inferred that meaning to it. Always seemed like a command or at least a suggestion to me, which I then couldn't act upon in most instances, which was always frustrating.

IMO, if they had kept the slow down message they should have at least made it pop up while you could still actually act upon it, instead of when its already too late. Now they've changed it to gravity well, this obviously isn't necessary. It comes across as a notification that you've made a mistake rather than a misleading suggestion that action can still be taken.

An appreciated change, one of the more significant ones to me as a player along with the fact they've fixed that annoying shadow bug that completely destroyed immersion especially when landed on planets.

Now people are going to get confused when they get a "gravity well" message in the middle of nowhere with no obvious source (i.e. Pareco)..... unlessss perhaps some portion of this 30GB update is devoted to new stellar objects?

You had to read it as 'your ship is being slowed down' not 'slow down now'

It should have said 'Slowdown' as a warning message, but gravity well is better.
Then they should have worded it better. I'm not performing mental gymnastics to infer a meaning that isn't clear. "SLOW DOWN" was the message we got, "SLOWDOWN" would have been a bit clearer as you suggested, but gravity well is a lot better both from a realism standpoint and there is no risk of confusion now. Now the new message comes across as an explanation for why your ship is experiencing impeded deceleration rather than a command or suggestion that you could never act upon.
