Well thats a crying shame really. I like stuff thats fun. If I want turmoil, I turn the computer off and walk outside.

Was there any real justification for this change? I mean, was there some sort of public outcry that things were too fun and it needs to be changed?
It is mentioned in the changelog under weapons.
I was not grindy enough, I guess.

Ranks are still displayed wrong. I still get invitations and would be King, according to the mail... And I got a Summerland-Permit, but no access to the system. I will now find out if Baron is at least correct and if I can buy the Clipper now.....

Those are excellent patch notes. Just do not botch up the next patch with those simplifications and dumbing down of the engineers. Scarp those planned changes and find an alternative route to make the game harder and more entertaining!

Heres a couple of ideas for those who are bored to dealth with the scaled back NPCs back to 2.0 and who are winging on like little school boys with engineer outfitted ships.

1. Go into the Hi Rez zones for your control freak addictions.
2. Reset your game save and start again
3. Ask the FD crew very kindly to create a new Mode in the game just for you Elites to scrap amongst yourselfs
4. Scale back your modded weapons, put small weapons on and scale back your shields and make it more interesting.
5. Play the Arena more it was designed all the adrenalnin junkies

But stop slagging off the game just because youve got to elite with a top rated engineered ship and are finding it a little easy now. Not everybody is elite toss pots dont spoil it for everybody. The game hasnt been coded just for your entertainment, its for everybody therefor has to be balanced.

You elites had it your way and FD listened and upped the NPCs and it didnt pan out so they scaled it back again because that many were getting killed, now your asking for it to be scaled back up again like before. Ignore them FD and make the game playable for everybody like it should be, is now and like it was before they upped the NPCs.

Heres another idea for the FD game coding crew.

*** Make it a hell of a lot more difficult for the Elites by getting every NPC to target and kill them ***
Make all Elites with a bounty on their heads so everybody else in the game targets them
(helping them loose 50m a shot just like the carebears loose their ships with elites)

Then lets see if they come in here crying.

Totally agree.....
Go to Hi Res in open play.....
But don't forget to pick your toys and dummy up on the way past!!!!

It's fools like you that spoil the game for everybody else,
FRONTIER.... Please only give ELITE players one option in game..... OPEN PLAY....

completely agree the Elites should have their own game mode so they can quabble and kill each other whenever they feel like it and I will laugh all day long when they keep losing millions of creds through insurance.

So much crying :) ... little more danger in "ELITE DANGEROUS" and suddenly there is a disaster. :)

Yes, apparently they forgot about the Dangerous part of the game's title, & just thought they were playing Farmville in space.

Oh look, the "don't hurt me" crowd, who spent the last 3 weeks having a big, loud sook about the "too hard AI", with all their "rage quitting" & temper tantrums, now have the audacity to accuse others of behaving in the same appaling fashion. Well I have two words for you guys-"Git Gud", 'cause the tougher AI is merely in hiatus & will be back soon.

Oh man..You really got it,eh ? Let me sum up a few facts:

- ED was originally made for thousands of human players to enjoy the ancient "ELITE" with a new look and a heap more gadgets and possibillities - THIS IS WHAT FD HIT WITH A BULLSEYE ! ED and ED:H where NOT made only for a handfull of Players, sitting all the day and all the night long in front of the computer ( I dont know if they got no REAL life, work, family, etc.) and heading for the highest ranking, best ship, etc as fast as possible just to show others what big balls they got ! ED is a community - that it was made for ! Not an asylum for heat-headed "Yohoho, I am Elite,I am the Master, what I say is PAX ULTIMA"

- ED indeed became a little boring by sublogical AI..thats for true .. only masses of AI ships could bring an experienced player really into trouble. I agree that AI needed an upgrade - but what came was an absouloutley hit beyond the target. AI was matched to high-ranked players only (Guys with Federal Corvette, High pimped Condas, etc). Sporadically players, people who just start their career in ED now face an AI enemy they could never hanlde. Starting with a sidewinder - what could a sidewinder even with a highly talented commander do against such a drastically pimped AI ? NOTHING ! They are dogmeat to almost every AI ship. That is not a question on SKILL - it is a fact of game balance against sporadically players.

- in regards to these FACTS, a lot of players will quit playing because they feel easyly overwhelmed. ED will loose a lot of players - only high-ranked guys with more than sup. equippment with stay...i think, that is bad for the comunity, that is bad for marketing and it is bad for FD. Like I said - ED was made for enjoying the MASSES - not only a handful of "Elitists" who egoistically blame the weak ones.

When I read your suggestion to the weak ones to play farmville i got to laugh...really...perhaps YOU should change your game to Counterstrike, etc .. would match better to find out who is "the best of the best of the best...."

I like a lot of what you say, but the problem isn't particularly because Combat Elite Cmdrs are finding it too easy, but that some players who enjoy a good challenge have not 'farmed' and so they are relatively low rank & now face the easier NPCs. I suppose a solution is available in-game for them by ranking up, but this isn't how they played before.

OTOH a Combat Elite Cmdr may well have moved on to less combat oriented activities & loadouts, but now faces frustratingly perfect AI on every interdiction. A Combat Elite Cmdr that enjoys the challenge is probably happier now than before 2.1 :)

If you don't mind telling, what is your Combat rank? I'm in the 'farmed & regretting it' camp I describe above (an oversimplification of course ;))

If it helps, I am trying to Git Gud, not having much success but I'm less rusty than I was a couple of weeks ago :)

I deleted my old save when 2.1 went live, so can't recall what my rank was prior to that.......but I do recall it was much, much higher than it should have been. I didn't deliberately "farm", but the lobotomized AI (pre-2.1) definitely allowed me to rank higher than I truly deserved, as I learned when I was playing the Beta. Deleting my account has allowed me to build up my rank the way it should have been, & I am already back up to Novice.....though via much tougher battles than I was previously used to.

Just for the record, I'm no "ace pilot", but I do love a proper challenge, & that's what the 2.1 AI was giving me.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, and I completely agree that the bugs in 2.0 should not have been left for going on 6 months (as it turned out). I spent much of 2.0 looking for Barnacles & exploring, returning to the bubble a few weeks before beta started so I didn't experience much pain from the ram scans etc. I spent most of 1.4 working on my trade rank in non-combat oriented ships.

Have you gone up against any elite pirate lords etc in the latest version? Do you currently have a ship capable of taking one on (FAS etc)? It would be interesting to know what you think of the NPCs I'm describing as 'frustratingly perfect'. Maybe you are just better than me, but maybe the AI is imbalanced but we are seeing different behavior because of our ranks.

I said in another post that I was, like you describe, ranked above my ability, both because I haven't actively practised combat for some time & because I pushed hard to get to Elite this time last year (before 1.4).

To be honest, I've never even encountered an Elite NPC since 2.1 dropped-not in RES's, not in missions, not in USS's. I doubt my Cobra MkIII could handle an Elite NPC though.

I think the new setup they've advertised in the patch notes can work well; it creates a situation where people are reaching a combat rank they can handle and not much further. Yes, it shines a big ugly light on the fact that the earlier setup could be exploited (gamed), as pilots could achieve Elite combat status without really earning it (assuming that the act of grinding through easy opponents was going against the spirit of these ranks).

Perhaps the needed fix is to allow combat rank to degrade as encounters are lost - that would allow people who have artificially boosted their combat rank to eventually return to a level of difficulty they can handle. It would also help deal with the problem of being continually promoted to the point of failure. I think accounting for losses by allowing combat rank progress to slip backwards as well as move forwards would go a long way in keeping things reasonable and honest.

Not a bad idea. I have no doubt that some combat commanders have ranked up on the back of tanked ships and (more recently) engineer buffed weapons. I pretty sure I could go to res site and cruch some sidewinders, eagles, cobra's, etc with a tanked Federal Assault ship. There are ton's of video's on YouTube advocating bounty hunting in res sites and explaining how to tank ships so players earn quick credits and buy bigger ships. I suspect some players have taken this literally. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go at combat players (I like a bit of combat too ocassionally), but if the combat rank is to mean anything then it probably shouldn't depend more on how big your ship is and outfitted, but more on actual combat experience and results. So, in short, I agree with your observation about ranking up in combat and the idea of changing the way combat ranks work. In the meantime and "elite" combat player may just have to suck it up when a NPC assumes that the rank means what its says : )

A nice way to practice manual landing Commander ;)

Unfortunately it also broke the ship's ability to land nicely on a planet after you recall it. I've had my python come in hot and "bounce" off planets a few times now, then hover for a minute before settling down. I get on board to find the hull at >50% - I stopped chuckling smugly at the people with broken docking computers when I realised that it was hitting me too.

I've been out today in an AspX & have done several recalls without incident, although it is slow to land. Hovers above the chosen spot for 5 secs or so deploying the landing gear, then slowly rotating before finally coming in to land.

Could be that the AspX is known to be a common ship for planetary landings, maybe the Python slipped through the net? I have an explorer Python, although I'm not using it atm.

That's unfortunate :( , didn't experienced that.

Seen it twice so far, on both occasions on very low G planets, and only since 2.1.03. Obviously not conclusive, but suspiciously coincidental with the docking computer fritzing out none the less.
