Yeah, wish we could just log in local and do some standard things maybe, but that would make things more complicated I suppose.
To pass the spare time I had, thought I'd install Tom Clancy's The Division that I got with my new nvidia card.....6hrs to download...6hrs! Guess I won't be playing that today either. Oh well...world of tanks it is then. :-/

Well isn't the poor 0.8 performance due to ED not providing any fixes since 0.5? All other games have shown a big performance increase with 0.8
I'm on 0.5 at the moment, runs smoothly with ED, fingers crossed the fixes will make 0.8 at the very least perform the same.
Do we get a client update after the upgrade. At the moment it's telling me client is too old and too new. Best of both worlds really.

You mean this: "It means there will be scheduled server downtime from 10am and will last between 1-2 hours." ? Assuming it's UK time, this window is already over...

When the update can be installed the play button is replaced with upgrade button (same spot). Click that and it will download/install update. If there is launcher update (seems like there isn't) the launcher will say that you need to install new launcher (pop up ) it direct you to page were you get the new version. Its so easy that you can't make mistakes.
UPDATE 1: We encountered a small issue which has required a little additional time to resolve. Everything is moving along well but it does mean that the servers will need to remain down for a little longer. We'll estimate up to a couple of hours but we'll keep you informed as we know more.

here, have my money, bought Horizons today after few months break from ED and also some paintjobs. Avoided buying them through Steam, instead got them from your website, so Steam dont get to leech from your hard work. Keep up the good work! Can't wait to multi-crew my Python/Anaconda with my buddies later this year!
EDIT: Also, Frontier, when can you name your ship? pretty much everyone wants it! Not wanting to beat dead horse, this is ages old topic, but I'd thought it would have been implemented already!

Sorry, but a "couple of hours" is not an answer at all, about what time can we play the game again? Next time just announce clearly when you are going to shut the servers down and for how long.

ehm... no. Notification means some time before... (ex. Monday: ...we will install a patch on Thursday from x to y). And "...couple of hours..." isn't really an Information... more an "... we don't know...)
pretty much. As a sys admin we always give a vague idea of when we do stuff in case someone complains about us not meeting deadlines
