"upgrading" from Clipper to Python has been underwhelming so far

I've flown both. Kept the Conda. Lol

I've kept both, and both work on players - I'm not after them and mostly run for various reasons, but I did one or the other occasionally...

Maybe I should try to fit another fixed beam in the large central hard point and try to use it, but, my previous experience was not positive. I've never been a real good fps performer, anyway, so, maybe it's me...

Well - of course if you enjoy gimbals, use them all the way. It's your time and I'm not trying to convert anyone - to me, using gimbals on a Python feels like picking a club over a sword (and on a side note, I haven't played any FPS since Q3A).

Depends on who you're fighting. Use your fixed all you want against me in something like a vulture... your hit percentage will be down into the lower single digits, guaranteed. Larger slower targets = used fixed. Tiny faster targets = use gimbals. Of course... you never have any idea what size ship you will be against.

I put back a fixed beam in the large center hard point. I had one fight before I called it a night yesterday with a Diamondback Scout NPC. Of course, I was able to take him out easily, even though he was deadly. Was trying to keep him in the center. I think my old Logitech joystick is maybe not helping. But I'll keep the fixed beam for a bit and see. When comparing the gimbaled to the fixed, there are not a lot of difference. I was wrong in thinking it uses less power. It's actually using more power than the gimbaled one, not a lot but more. The Mj and DPS is only slightly better, 30 Mj and 5 DPS for the fixed compared to 24 Mj and 4 DPS for the gimbaled. According to Coriolis, thermal load is higher for the gimbaled at 6 compared to the fixed at 5. Just not sure how much the DPS and the power (Mj) make a difference, though...

Power coupling is pretty much irrelevant when you only have one energy weapon and the rest are ballistic. The energy one is just useful until you get the shields down, which is not hard for NPCs in general, as they tend to have weak shields.

The energy weapons are good against hull and modules. I use 3X C3 Gimbaled Beam + 2 G2 Gimbaled Pulse. Takes down shields very quickly and does a nice job with modules and hull. But for those that simply like to pull the trigger once and hold it for the duration of the flight (i.e. pulse laser users), this powerful weapons configuration is not for them as it takes some skill to use it. With this configuration, you don't have to have a constant target lock as you do LOTS of damage in short bursts (few seconds).

Didn't I say that? I was sure I said that. This is reason two of why I switched from fixed to turrets in my class 2 spots.

Reason 1 was the versatility. I can use turrets as turrets... but they can act as lighter, longer-firing fixed weapons, too. Kinda like using pulse lasers, but without the frustration.

Re-reading the previous posts, yes, you said it. And re-reading your post about how fixed can be good against big, slow moving ships and how harder it is against smaller ships, you make me think again about that gimbaled beam! I've never been in a fight with an Anaconda, always avoided it. I killed Pythons and Clippers and even though they qualify as large ships (well, maybe not the Python, but it's quite large and slower), so most of my fights are against smaller ships. I will think again about the gimbaled vs. fixed. Like I said my previous message, there is a slight difference in DPS but I'm not sure how that translate in a fight...

Thanks for your input, though. I certainly value it.

Had the exact same setup and it worked well, I agree!

Hello,

Upgraded then to c power plant anaconda. Large bursts, much better than Python. Question is more, do you want to win all npcs with ease? I would get a Python and trade conda, which is cheap.
