Ships Using weapons and scoops planetside in a ship at the surface

We don't seem to have a weapons/combat subforum so since these this is mostly about hardpoints and kit, and hardpoint config is a ship thing, I'll go with "Ships."

So. I thought I'd have a go at turning the old Cobby into an in-system planet hopper, suitable for those times when you just fancy a bit of time planetside but in vehicles. I actually thought of this because having upgraded to Medium ships, I accidentally found out a lot of High Tech bases have Small pads only, which makes things like "fetch Advanced Medicines" tricky.

A couple of things I've discovered, which both give rise to a question:

- sometimes you can use the ship to scoop canisters from Wreckage and such. Is there a ship with a fuel scoop which really is on the lowest part of the ship to make this even easier? it's doable in the Cobra if you want to just show off but it's a pain to get right.

- shooting Skimmers etc from the ship is also possible. You can't target them but you can still shoot them by eye. And shooting them by eye is an art because of the hardpoint offset and convergence built for 2km range, not 200m range... so the question is what's the shortest range weapon in the game, and does it come in Fixed, and will it work on the hardpoints that are a bit nearer the middle?

And side question - what is the actual point of a Diamondback Scout? It's mostly a worse Cobra, and it's heavier, and terrible cargo capacity.

it's an exceptional combat ship. fast and maneuverable.
I'm using this build for fun while getting pirate lord missions where i use it to nail various pirates flying mostly Condas with the occasional FDL.

i guess you mean cargo hatch...
in which case, Viper Mk3 or even better, Viper Mk4 - the lowest part of the ship is the cargo hatch as seen below

Very easy with Imp Courier

I would use SRV instead. Shooting skimmers from a ship is frustrating. You can try to AOE them to make it easier, I think dumbfire missile racks should work.

Explorer ship. Easy to engineer to have huge jumprange, cheap as dirt. Can also be used for some weird shenanigans, I can't remember what tho.

Do you want to bombard surface sites? if so i recommend frag cannons.....trust me you can take out an entire settlement in a few shots if engineered

What you want is a ship where the cargo scoop is in front of the ship, close to the cockpit and near the sensors since the hardest part about it is getting the things to show up on radar for targetting. The smaller the ship the better.

Don't bother with accuracy. Get things that go boom: missiles, flechettes, mines.

Unlike the cobra, it has yaw. It has also 2 extra utilities.

Which mods / experimental would you recommend?

I want to mount them on my Courier which I use for fast short distance travel and occasional anti-surface assault. Currently mounting 3 Dumbfire missile racks. I need the Frags G5 lightweight and I want to know if you think they will work and what experimental to take. Thanks.

EDIT: ok, lightweight completely doesn't work. Shrapnel flies all over the place but the chance you'll hit an NPC is minimal. Not recommended. Have you actually tested it?

G5 Burst shot, and yes I have tested with 2 med 3 large on a python (3x3c and 2x2a) i think it was hit or miss until i had adleast grad 2 engineering, dont target anything or fly at an angle just point the nose down right overtop and fire
