V2000 sequel?

Hi all.

I know everyone on this forum is either an Elite nutcase or a RCT nutcase, but don't forget the rest of us - that is us fans of PCVirus and V2000. There are still some of us around (but probably not more than a handful). :) For those of you who never played V2000, it was actually a pretty good game, but cannot be played now as it won't run under XP. Any chance of a sequel? There was a rumour at one time that a Unix version of V2000 was planned, but I don't know if that was true or not.

Would be nice to think that V2000 has some kind of future with a sequel or something. If not, Mr Braben sir, how about a patch to let the game run under XP? Probably less than an hour's work for a programmer...

Any crumbs of hope you can throw at this old V2000 nutcase?

It sounds like we should dig this out again - it would be a shame to let V2000 die. My guess is it was something to do with the CD loading or the software protection which stops it working...

We're very busy at the moment, but I'll try and take a look at it.

Virus 2000 is not (nor will be) abandonware, so please do not ask for someone to provide you with a copy - especially on our own forums! We will look into making it available once things are less busy with our current game projects.

There are a couple of remakes at http://www.remakes.org/ I've not tried them.

Failing that if you have your old windows 95/98/me discs then download Virtual PC 2004 from microsoft's web site. It's now completely free and useful for games that only work on the old versions of windows

Hey, I'd forgotten about V2000...I was a huge Virus nutcase, and did like V2000, but didn't actually prefer it to Virus. Be interesting to give it another try though.

The V200 can run under XP very easy without any patch. If at your computer the game dosen't work run it in compabiliti mod
1.How?
2.Right click on V200.exe or how it's named then left click on properties see up there three tabs clic on compatibiliti click this: on run this program in compatibiliti mode for and then select the operating sistem windows 98/me or windows 95

Well, I dunno. I've tried to get V2000 running on Winnt/Win2000/WinXP and WinXP Pro and couldn't get it to run. I've never had any luck at all - and I've tried all the various compatibility modes without luck. Also, just spent a morning faffing around with MS's Virtual Machine 2007 - again no luck running V2000. I think it's the game's CopyP feature that jams everything up.

Shame of it is, is its a pretty good and original game - when anyone saw me playing it, they wanted a copy - but lost interest as its a Win98 only game.

However, it could be my CD which has a few scratches and that may be the prob' but I don't think so as the game installs from CD without a hitch. The game simply doesn't run at all - no load screen or nothing.

Game cries out for a patch or something to remove the CopyP feature. (I can hope .......)

Uhoh.... me again.

Just tried V2000 on an XP laptop at work, and managed to get the game running using the compatibility options :). But no luck still with my home PC. I think its a graphics card issue.

Anyway, having the game playable on a laptop is just fine with me :):):)

Hi guys. Just picked up a copy from Ebay and it works fine on my XP machine i just needed to change the renderer from Direct to Software in the options menu, i also removed the 2 video files from the installations folder as it boots a little quicker.
Does anybody remember the keys?
I can move and shoot with the mouse, shift reverse, m for map, Tab for flight but how do you pick up the natives to rescue them?
This was one of my most played games back in the day, hard as nails but so awesome, i wish Frontier would grace us with a sequel.

Cmon devs throw us a bone, what is the key/how to pick up the natives, thats all i need to know, i can not find pick them up so i can not get past level 2 its driving me mental, tried all keyboard still nothing, help :(

Flight controls

mjr in case you're still interested and according to my Spanish manual:

Space-- thrust
Right shift-- revert thrust
TAB-- Change hover/flight mode ( when enough fuel)
Return/-/A-- Shoot ( plus CTRL you'll get a superexplosion with the right ammo)
Page up/ down -- Weapon select
M-- show map
ESC/ P-- Pause and options
C-- Teleporting inside
D-- Teleporting outside
E-- Select cargo

Regards.

PS I've just found that I cannot install V2000 on Windows7 64 bits, shame.
