Rather than being foremost a "first person shooter", I'd really rather see the emphasis on building real worlds, that can be explored and enjoyed (or otherwise!)

I would LOVE it if you could fly off, find an undiscovered hospitable planet, land by a beautiful shoreline and fish for a day, or go exploring or whatever.

Of course, if you happen to come across someone else doing the same, a good blaster by your side is always handy. :D

I would also love to see this kind of thing in the game, it was always what I wanted to do in Frontier when I landed on a world, but ultimately it felt a bit dull once you had landed and couldnt do anything but look around a little bit from the landing pad then just trade/buy some stuff and take off again.

I know this is also probably Brabens vision for the game and if anyone can pull it off well he can. Dont know how long this is going to take but the game is heading the right way to achieving something like this eventually.

Elite Dangerous will hopefully never primarily be a first person shooter (minor FPS aspects like boarding or repelling boarders aside), but I wonder if one day the Elite universe might include such a game, with characters, game-lore and events (even missions) crossing over or at least being somewhat portable between the games/genres.

You mean in an Eve/Dust kind of way? I would prefer them to be in the same game but that would amazing too.

I wasn't aware of Eve/Dust but yes, that looks like the kind of thing I had in mind.

Breaking them out into different (but integrated) games would allow each one to focus on its core strength and address its core market, while avoiding cluttering the hard drives of the uninterested. Conceivably, it could go beyond Space Sim and FPS one day, though FPS is the most obvious addition.

David said that in 10 years, the game will be different than today. So we can think there will be a rich variety of new features

Indeed, that comment of his is what got me started thinking about what might be done one day with Frontier's universe and technology, rather than in terms of the specific game called Elite Dangerous.

Give CCP their due they are trying to make a world that is coherent as possible.

I just don't think we've got the technology in place yet to have a fully coherent separate persistent universe with twitch based MMO availability. Planetside 2 seems to be the closest we've come so far and it gives me a lot of hope.

I think we will see it in our lifetime and maybe Elite will be its beginning.

So, we are talking about 2017. for the full game experience and that only if everything goes well? You're saying that you will first have to play a half-finished game that will feel like another space-window FPS?

I'm sorry but being an original Eliter...... A half finished game that will fee like another space window FPS?

If I'm not mistaken, Elite was THE worlds first flight sim in cockpit view. It was the first 3D game with true 3D mobility. It was the first space flight sim.

So doesn't this make all other games like elite? apart from some nicer graphics.

Welcome filip :)

You might be interested in watching the Development Plan video from way back in the kickstarter, where David Braben "'fesses up" about the delays. Planetary landings in the old games were seriously underwhelming by modern standards, and it'll take lots of extra time to achieve today's expectations. They figured it was better to give people as much game as they can as soon as they can, while preparing to add landing and walking about down the road. As the video hints, you're far from the only person looking forward to these additions!

Andrew Sayers; Thank you very much! Some how I missed this video during the Kickstart. It explains a lot.:)
