Victims of Piracy Support Group

So basically the OP comes to the conclusion that his dignity is worth more than his time spend in a video game.

That is absolutely what he is saying - and I would be pretty horrified if he had come to the opposite conclusion. I would feel less than human, if I did not fight back against these piratical scum, just because it wasn't convenient for my time/profit ratio!

(In case I am giving the wrong impression - my character detests your pirate characters, and will fight them tooth and nail, never mind the profit and time. I the player like you pirate players - I am very glad you are there making my game more exciting!)

You're right that handling it in the context of the game would be better. One solution as you say would be the equivalent of 999/911 calls. I also think the bounty system could be tweaked. In Turkish law we have a thing called "yuz kizartici suc" - literally "a crime that makes you blush" or in other words, a dastardly deed. That includes things like sexual offences and confidence tricks, but in the Elite universe it would include things like attacking ships of a much lower class or players of a much lower level, pirating goods under a certain value (only a cad loots aluminium), blowing up a ship after it's jettisoned its cargo, or whatever behaviour is considered detrimental to gameplay. Do sometihng like that, and your bounty goes up to attract the kind of players who could blow you out of the sky before breakfast. This would not only make for better game-play, it would mimic the conditions of historical piracy, where sensible pirates would keep bloodshed to the minimum to avoid being singled out for special (lethal) treatment from the authorities. Piracy of any kind was of course a hanging offence; the question was whether the Royal Navy could be bothered to send a ship after you.

This game gets more and more fun by the minute.

I practically had this dude in tears the other day. My hold was empty, yet it was full of salvation that I'd love to share with him. For my hold was full of love for the Lord Jesus. If he must kill me, then he had the right to know that I was going to go to a better place. If he wanted to know about that place I would happily discuss the good news that the bible had for him.

The salvation and the promise of eternal life that God offered sinners like me and him, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Yeah he killed me. I didn't mind, I could practically feel the discomfort as he tried to reply.

Open up their heads and hot wire their brains. Joy.

I could be wrong but I think at the moment there is already a mechanic where you can form a wing with someone and take a chunk of the profit of their trades.

it's an absolute pittance. But if you are in a wing it is fine to drop cargo for them so that is the de facto payment method for now.

I'm unsure of cash transactions amongst players, maybe they'll do it, but it opens up further risk of gold farming.

Just out of interest, has anyone ever tried asking a pirate to escort or wing-up to a station for a no bother cargo drop. Are there any pirates here that would go for that kind of deal if the cargo was valuable and the circumstances a the target station wouldn't mean a massive scrap with local security?

It's 5% right? At the moment I'm making about 760,000 one way and 445,000 the other on a trade route. That's (I think) 38000 one way and 22250 the other. That's a fairly tidy sum. Admittedly wing trading is something for Type 9 owners at the moment but that'd still cover an escort ships costs. If I do 6 of those an hour that's 361500; enough for a sidewinder pilot to buy a viper or some serious upgrades for his sidewinder.

Yep. That is the profit. Actual cost of the goods (496 gold) runs into several million. :)

EDIT: If any newbie sidewinders want to get into a wing and get a little bit of cash for running escort let me know.

Two things come to mind

1. Play daft be a first timer - you don't know how to jettison cargo - you have no spare money please don't kill him get closer to him and let your fsd recharge when You are ready and engines shields are at max boost straight over his head and keep doing it and jump to another system (or two)
.
2. When Frontier give us Booby trapped cargo its going to be such fun with pirates "here take my cargo", <backs away with fingers in ears>
