I don't have a great experience with many ships and I don't know if there are significant differences between the scout and the explorer but when I had the explorer, the weakest part was definitely the canopy. I don't remember how many times I had to break the fight to run for the nearest station. Never experienced canopy breaches that often on the Cobra or the Clipper. Actually, I don't remember one canopy breach on my Cobra or Clipper.

Not true. I do more in this game than fighting with shield cell banks, gimballed weapons and barrel rolling to make myself harder to hit.

Actually, I've had very little time to sit down and reply to all the posts at one time. I haven't even played Elite: Dangerous for the last 3 weeks. There really needs to be more than 24 hours in a day. I'm hoping that by the time CQC drops my schedule will free up and allow me to spend a good amount of time playing again.

I got new respect for the Scout. And bloody hell you can fly. I never thought that little ship could hold on for so long.
Also funny, I bought one yesterday to leave at a station for later. Flew around in it for a little and then docked. Felt nice, but I never knew it had these capabilities.
