Vindicator Jones Discusses Fundamental Game Improvements

Greetings fellow CMRDs and Frontier Development.

If you haven't already, take the time to watch the latest post on Vindicator Jones' channel. You'll find another great example of some balanced and well thought out ideas that address the fundamental mechanics of Open gameplay.

The issues of Combat Logging, Griefing and Ganking are becoming an ever increasing problem within the game and I feel it needs to be more actively prioritised be Frontier. There are many sound ideas out there to address them and this is another great example.

I would personally like to see the very heart of Elite Dangerous beating at full strength, rather than being prescribed endless patches and point updates that act like steroid injections, often only masking the real health issues of the game.

I agree! Repped!

FD - Why has this not been done? WHY?

Because they don't listen to the best ideas from the few players that have really good vision and articulate suggestions. They listen to the biggest numbers of lousy ideas from players who only want more PvP.

VJ, Obsidian Ant, Kornelius Briedis, Falcon Fly have always made great arguments and suggestions, but FD rarely listens and accepts their ideas.

Instead it always more of the same - missions will be re-vamped/fixed for the next release and we need to re-balance PvP.

How exciting...

Ever thought of the fact that it might be extremely hard for them to implement these kind of things into the game?

What i would like to see though, is some sort of confirmation from them that they have these things in thoughts and planned out for the future.

Honesty if they will NEVER ever do something about the crime and punishment in this game i''ll start having my serious doubts sooner or later.

With no current headline feature, I feel that 2.4 represents a perfect time to add in lots of "connective tissue" into the game-improved Crime, Punishment & bribery systems, Super-Power Specific Karma, a fully fledged favour system, improved links between Super-Powers, Powers, Factions & Engineers.....to name the obvious ones.

it's intellectually dishonest to blame PvPers. Many of those names making good suggestions do some PvP themselves.

Blame FDev; not any set of players. PvP players didn't ask for CQC. They didn't ask for PowerPlay. They didn't ask for scripted Thargoids cutscenes. They didn't ask for fighters. They didn't ask for Engineers. You know, the large and time-consuming systems they decided to add to the game instead of getting proper C&P done. Probably because it's not sexy and doesn't sell more copies of their game. The PvP community simply asked for balances passes to problem/broken mechanics and have generally brought attention to problem builds. They asked for better instancing support for reliable wing conflicts. And both PvP and PvE players alike called for the improvement/incentivization of fixed weaponry and better balance for Engineers stuff.

Blaming PvP players for FDev's slow-footed response to C&P and other in-game issues simply shows your bias on the issues at hand and ignorance of the real problems and what FDev prioritized ahead of them (hint: not PvP player issues). Do better.

Good points - I don't disagree.

The accountability is with FD

I do some PvP occasionally myself.

Just poorly expressed frustration at FD's decisions and lack of attention in many areas.

I'll be quiet and go look for some Exquisite Focus Crystals.

Well never seen a Vindicator video video before. I thought it was very good - well reasoned will watch again.

As always, never going to agree 100% with an opinion piece, although Vindicator does touch upon more than a C & P system needed, such as structured PvP, all of which I agree with.

My problem with the piece is the description of open. I play iron man mode only in open, and have reset a number of times since 2.1 (I normally muck up around 20-40MCr mark). I think I have had one Cmdr shoot at me in a sidewinder in all this time, not sure as he never actually hit me (I think he was trying to miss to get me to turn around and shoot back as I was Harmless at the time) . The description of open in the bubble described in the video does not match my repeated starter experience over the last 6 months. It is describing a different game - so its hard to have faith in the conclusions, with my experience being so different, it just encourages those that play in modes other than open to stick their ore into the debate with even less experience of the mode.

My biggest problem with open is not the non-consenting PvP but the lack of mechanics encouraging co-operation at the beginning and middle part of the the journey. So I will add Open needs more CoOp-PvE as well to make it stand out from Solo and Private as a different experience. Morbius would also benefit from this.

Honestly though do you think it can be that hard for FD? [sad]

Sadly they haven't been very communicative on this, so when do "you" pull the plug on the whole thing? After this next update (if no C&P) 6 months, a year? This lack of C&P has seriously been bugging me since 2.0 yet still I play :S

I would hope that with the success of interaction with this mini 2.2.03 Beta. FD should consider a 2.2.04 beta which would trial this C&P stuff.

Not everything in FD needs to be about massive explosions, uber ship builds and pew pew pew, sometimes getting a background persistence function to work well actually makes a game better.

I think all of VJ's video makes sense and has reasonable suggestion on implementing something that enables consequence for your actions, but doesn't necessarily stop players from their actions.
