Viper Fail in it's Role?

The Cobra costs more, and has higher classed equipment which costs more. The higher classed thrusters help it maneuver about the same as a viper.

Is the viper a good endgame ship? No.

However if you want something fun to go bounty hunting in, that is cheap to outfit, and replace there isn't a better ship, I think it costs about 2 million to fully deck out a viper, where as the cobra is much more expensive.

Personally I take the versatility of the Cobra over the Viper any day, but there are many bounty hunters out there who think the viper is the bees knees.

The Cobra suffers incredibly in turns. It drifts hard in medium to high speed turns. It also takes quite a long time when initiating the turn to eventually catch up and start to turn to it's best ability. This is an issue the Viper really doesn't experience. I've decked out both the Viper and Cobra, experimenting with different builds and I've stuck with the Viper for combat.

The Viper is definitely a better ship for combat. The Cobra is able to do other things better and is a perfect ship for the less than wealthy beginning trader.

I sold my Cobra because I wanted to try out the Viper. The only thing that disappointed me was the jump range. How about a little bit more jump range, just a little bit? I'm getting nowhere in this thing. :)

a small buff to the viper would let breath viper owners, without taking away the Cobra supremacy:

- Speed +10
- boost +20
- Jump +1,5

the Cobra would still got the best Boost and by far the best jump, but the viper would have a tiny edge over the Cobra in fight, it is not even enough but at least the viper would exist for more that "I use a viper for 2 hours before i buy a Cobra"

I kinda miss that 500 Speed and maneuverability of the Beta 1 Phase on the Viper.
Back then it clearly was a distinct fighter and superior interceptor.

This. The Viper got hit with the nerf stick (perhaps too) hard. The first time I stepped into one I'd been playing with an Anaconda beforehand. Almost ended up ploughing into the exit slot just 'cus of the non-boost speed.
.
The game does need more ships in comparable roles to the Eagle, Viper and Cobra/Asp.

So far, I've spent much more time in a Viper than a Cobra, although I've not fully fitted out a Cobra yet.

You have to be prepared to compromise when setting up the Viper (particularly weight v manoeuvrability), it can't really be a multi-role ship.

viper is half the cost of a cobra and is a cheap through away fighter, in this role it excels.

in the right hands this very cheap ship can destroy pretty much anything, so how can you say it fails in role?

I actually don't like Viper too. After buying it, after few hours I've switched back to Eagle. Sure, Viper has more hardpoints, but Eagle is just... nicer to fly.

I have both and agree, the Eagle is great to fly. I'll be using both in an up and coming PVP event to contrast and compare.

If you're struggling to make the most of a Viper in combat, you're doing something very wrong.

No You missed my point I was saying why get a Viper at all when a Cobra does the Viper job = as well and with right equipment is faster better defended

Viper is good at combat but Cobra is Better as it stands and that is daft to me as a ship designed to do a bit of everything should not be better than a ship designed for one role as I would have to class the Viper a Design Failure

The Eagle I Did enjoy more than a viper it feel more like a fighter and I would say that is a better cheap through away ship I would not class a Viper as through away Ship unless your rich as it's still a 80k re-buy cost for a full fitted viper
