VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

The product has been unfinished since its launch in 2013/14, has it not?
All of the references to David Braben's videos about what ED could be have been used to illustrate just how unfinished the game has always been, surely?
Boy that last statement is a real stretch comparing other Elite releases to Odyssey.
Odyssey was a half baked mess almost unplayable that got Fdev into the mess they have today.

Are we forgetting It took Fdev almost a year of updates to put It in a condition it should have been upon the original release.

As far a Braben’s statement about the game development, I hope it’s never finished and continues to be developed.

Really?
EDO is an expansion to the base game... Have you forgotten?

But, you have it your way - I don't try to deceive myself over a game.
I will sit on the fence.. it is true ED was never a finished product and was planned to be expanded over time over several seasons....
however FD stated the seasons model did not work and as such ED:O would release in a completed state like a more traditional DLC and going forward would only receive minor maintanence updates and some narrative stuff with the bulk of development going onto the next expansion.

or that is how I remember it anyway.

I could argue that point.

New game engine
Load Horizons or Odyssey
Completely different planet tech
Different lighting scheme
Different IU
Horizons commanders can’t interact with Odyssey commanders

Not a expansion but a sequel game with Horizons game mechanics and info ported over.
They are two separate entities.

I am not complaining, just hard to see it as a DLC.

Of course you can, I'd expect nothing less.

It is sold as DLC, therefore it is, no issue.
What you see it to be is your own interpretation, naturally.

It would have served Frontier better had they had called it a new game, then there would be none of the 'debate' surrounding it, and they could have left VR out altogether without having the 'built for VR' meme being used all of the time.

It’s sold as “ downloadable content “ where the new content is added to a existing game.
where is this content in the Horizons game ? It’s not, it’s a fully standalone game.

You can call it what you want don’t make it so

Isn't "DLC" just an abbreviation for Downloadable Content? (and EDO contains the existing content from all previous iterations of the game, hadn't you noticed?)
English is hard, I know....

I consider it is a DLC...... you need the base game to play it (and even if you could buy a more expensive version with the base game included it would not discount it being a DLC).
all progress is transferred from the original game, and so to me that means its still the same game. tho its kind of moot, am not sure it matters really (actually it does as i paid for all expansions of Elite Dangerous)

funnily enough Ian Bell had exactly this argument with David Braben a number of years ago with Elite 3 1st encounters....that was more obvious a separate game from Frontier compared to Horizons and Ody imo

You can have Horizons without Odyssey, but you can’t have Odyssey without Horizons. By definition it’s not a standalone game as it doesn’t stand alone.

You can call it what you want, but that doesn’t make it so.

I wonder why FDev keep Horizon 3.8 and 4.0 up if their respective player bases are so negligible 😅
Their choice... They even had to give Horizons free to everyone as allegedly, even so many years after its introduction, there were still players who hadn't bought the expansion.

No loss to me, of course, I stopped playing Horizons on EDO launch, as did the group I play with, which is the only thing that matters to me.

ETA: 3.8 is at EOL, and already there are complaints here that it is empty on PC - H4 not a lot has been said about how popular it is, mainly due to arguments about 'entitlement' overshadowing useful information. But, interestingly, the PvP players mention that EDO has made finding 'organic' content harder as 'everyone' is playing it... They, of course, play their organised matches in 3.8 due to performance issues in the 4.0 engine.

Yeap, precisely what i was saying.
You wont change your review (many others are also doing the same) Odyssey will not sell due to bad reviews, FDev will not have funding to invest in further developing and... they might shut down with no VR anyway. 🤷‍♂️
It not like they didnt said NO VR Support At Launch (months before launch)... so your review seem to be given in spite.

So, if you think you're supporting or giving an incentive to FD to implement VR on-foot, you just don't
While if you abstain from reviewing the title, they could maybe get to positive reviews, sell more copies, have more money to develop the game.
Notice i didnt say to give a positive review, but to abstain to give a negative one - especially for a feature they never promised.
Do you really believe that? Supplying your customers with what they want and then getting good reviews is the way things work.

Before the days of "creative" marketing and straight misinformation, that's how it worked.

Now, it doesn't matter how many bad reviews one has, because they can just claim "fake news" and botting and carry on.

Wake up. It's not the 80s anymore and Consumer Reports is no longer a concern to any company.

If you change your review to glowing or very favorable. FD will think everybody is happy with things the way they are. and some of us are not.
