VR support 'not at launch' for Odyssey

This is how I play SC. HOTAS on the sides of my keyboard, mouse off to the right, use kb/m for walking. But I'm wondering if maybe it makes more sense to use my xbox controller for walking around in odyssey. I guess it depends on the animations and responsiveness of the movements.
If supported (and it doesn't make me puke) I will play Odyssey the same. Has to work for that though ...

Something to consider.

This is an early release and oddly on the day sony was to have thier big ps5 reveal where games were going to be shown off. It was postponed but the trailer still dropped anyway.

It may be nothing but Sony has in the past paid for timed VR exclusivity in the past, this would be a great showcase if PSVR2 is ready for launch.

Frontier could make it similar to the VR mechanics of Half Life Alyx. That shouldn't be too hard. I think this is expected by many players.

Physics interaction with objects would be way out of the question I’d think.

But in terms of guns & locomotion via motion controllers, you’d think they could MVP that (excluding EVA etc) and make parity with the core game mechanics. (If possibly at a financial loss for dev + support vs uptake :/)

Hell, they could MVP with a console controller, but it doesn’t have the nausea solutions that controller orientation brings, so seems kinda unlikely for a big launch.

This has always been the fear. That it’s just too hard to justify the budgeting to do it right for Legs. It’s a '2D first' game. That’s where the money is...

But fingers crossed. The Steam page is still provisional at this point, and they could still get something over the line.

Guess we’ll see :/

Maybe not related, but I also notice the Horizons DLC page states detailed minimum system requirements whereas the new Odyssey page only states
  • MINIMUM:
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

  • RECOMMENDED:
    • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit

Yeah it does look provisional in a few ways.

Hopefully more details will fill out over time...

That's not too far out of the norm; as they flesh out the engine/lighting/models they will likely update the requirements for the final product.

Trust me, you don't want VR for spacelegs. Not with the tech we have now anyway. I've been playing VR games for over a year now and FPS still occasionally gives me nausea.

The Chicken Little is strong with this thread.

Take a deep breath guys, there's no real indication that VR support is being dropped, this is just speculation based on specs that probably aren't finalized yet.

Very true but there have been many concerns raised about vr support and its one of the few things fdev haven't tried to correct over the last 2 years. The longer they leave a response on vr the more they add fuel to the fire. I saw stephen jumped into the main thread to say "LEP owners get this" but not a dot on vr support would take them 30 secs to confirm.

Its each to their own i can wander for hours in nms or asgards wrath or even stormland no worries.

I really hope they don't drop vr, I really hope they realize the amount of money we vr users HAD to drop in order to experience this game to this degree, depending on your hmd choice of course some of us EASILY spent 4 digits in $, I know I did, a flipping vive AND an index was NOT cheap not to mention that HOTAS ESPECIALLY aren't cheap or easy to come by since apparently nobody seems to make them anymore new or otherwise, just upgraded from my x55 to a 56 and that thing alone cost me 300 cause stocks are so few and fare between.

It would be an utter slap to all vr users faces if they were to remove it, here's hoping they will give us options to let us access the content without forcing us to do the headset dance of up/down on/off, hell no.
This was always the risk we took with vr our outlay is huge but only £40 of that goes to fdev so its worth diddly squat to them if we bought an index and 2080ti

Reading through this thread, well, it didn't take long for certain people to switch from blind uninformed cheering back to blind uninformed doomsaying.

I think everybody should chill the hell out.

VR flying will still be a thing. VR legs would be insufferable, like all VR games is if this part is not in VR, I'm fine with that.

More importantly - you are once again arguing about something that is a year away and with no official info posted. DD's being DD I guess...

Well sure, but my point is that VR sitting down is a lot easier to deal with than VR running around. The reason why is because when you're sitting down, your sense of balance agrees with what your eyes are telling you, so you get used to it fairly quickly, but when you're running around in VR your eyes are telling your brain you're moving your body but your internal senses are telling your brain you're sitting still and so you get motion sickness. Some can get used to that quickly, but for most it takes a long while. The industry is always coming up with new tricks to prevent it, like reducing your field of view when you move, so I'm confident it will eventually be solved. but for now it's still a problem.

It comes down to what legs are and how they are implemented. If legs are an entirely separate entity that you would do in long sittings separate from flying, that's one thing. If legs are intertwined with the gameplay, so that you continually have to remove your headset and then put it back on, it would be untenable to play like that.

If legs is basically just CQC then that's fine, but if they are like SRVs or, worse, used more than SRVs it would make playing in VR a real misery.

There's not much doomsaying there's a lot of people saying "if true im out" i think generally people just want confirmation so are adding their voices to the subject to try get some info out of fdev. Shouldnt be too tricky for them to confirm its still there in some capacity.

I just noticed something: those are minimum and recommended specs. VR has nothing to do with that.

In the Horizons specs it's just an additional note under recommended specs, those specs for Odyssey clearly aren't complete yet since they don't even mention video cards or RAM.
If you look on the right it lists vr support for horizons totally separate bit to min specs.
