VR upgrade. Wow.

Thank you playerwon. The other option to the Reverb G2 it could be the Pico 4 I guess. Options seems limited as it seems that PCVR will be left behind mostly in the next round of new equipment for this and next year.

I find kind of funny that, despite Pico 4 is only for Europe and China by now, I have no major problems to buy it, while Valve Index is nigh impossible to buy without paying 200% more for it.

yeah pico looks like a real contender in the market.
its crazy how ignored it is by manufacturers outside the greed belt (apple, "meta", hp)... the well priced crap units that meta sells are selling like hotcakes simply because they are cheap... but they are lousy experiences when compared to something with comparatively massive computing power.
im surprised hp threw their hat in to that ring myself, but they where targetting businesses when they did... any time i talked with customer service regarding my headset they where legit surprised i bought it exclusively for gaming!
still a toddler, the vr market is a wild ride.... as it grows in to childhood it will get better.
im still pretty happy with the experiences ive had with my hp reverb, i wouldnt trade the screen resolution for anything in the world... and in spite of its failure by design features, i will likely buy another to replace my aging (and almost dead) reverb g1.... especially with the price drops im seeing of late.
having said that... if you DO buy a reverb... first thing you NEED to do is to remove the cable clip from the side of the headset, find someone you dont like or have a negative point to make to, and toss it directly at a sensitive area on their body. this clip is rubbish, it causes the cable to bend WAY too sharp and support the suspended (and considerable) weight of the rest of the bulky cable.... this will start breaking the braid in the cable. it will lose the ability to go to 90hz fast. i believe this was dont intentionally, so that hp could sell these corporate customes they coveted (but failed to attract lol) several cables per headset and increase profit per unit dramatically. ive run the cable along the top headset strap on my g1, so that it drops down behind me (better than beside any day anyway!) with no sharp bends. i used some hockey tape to hold it in place. something simple and similar to you should be available. this will preserve the integrity of the input signal and allow you to continue to enjoy this beautiful pair of displays at the 90hz bare minimum vr needs to appear smooth. im playing exclusively in 60hz rn because of this built in cable failure, and it peeves me to no end... but hp will not a)admit they pulled some apple style engineering there or b) replace my headset and cabling with new. its quite old tho, and seen thousands of hours of use in its time with me.
i cant wait till they become more mainstream, and affordable (GOOD headsets, i mean... no meta e for me thanks!). ive dreamt of this tech for 40 years now, and im excited to be part of the start.

Thanks for the tip! I might go for the G2 as I have seen some reviews that point the USB image transfer of the pico 4 is not the best one for sim players. I will wait for the end of November sales, there will be more reviews for the Pico 4 to make a decision. Thanks again!

Make sure it's the G2V2 upgrade. It's over a year old, but many retailers are still trying to sell the G2V1 at the same price.

Just pulled the trigger on a Ebay Buy it Now listing. The seller is HP but will check as soon as it arrives to be sure it is V2. Since return is available until December 2022 I am pretty comfortable giving this a go.

And I am fairly certain this will be a major upgrade coming from my old Oculus CV1 which has been collecting dust on the closet shelf the pas few years.

Currently sporting a 3700X on an Asus X570 Tuf mobo with a RTX2070. 16gb of ram.

I know this is FAR from top end but it should get me going. Albeit in the shallow end of the pool.... ;)
Yes, it should be ok. Don't be afraid to dial everything down to medium. In-game supersampling to 1. HMD quality to 1. Remember to cut Steam supersampling to around .8, both global and specific. It will still look gorgeous in the Reverb. :) You don't need or want all that artificial rendering going on when you have the native resolution of the Reverb.

Welcome to the HP Reverb G2 world, I ditched the Quest 2 for the G2 (v1) some while back and completely agree with you its picture & sound quality are superb.
I've very recently been lucky enought to upgraded to an RTX 4090 and can run steam VR at 150% with every in game setting at maximum, and wow its amazingly good.
Lucky fellow, I have the G2 with a 3080 and it is not perfect in Odyssey but good in Horizons, thinking of selling my body to afford the 4090.

HAOPYOU VR Cable Management, Retractable Ceiling Pulley System for Vive/Vive/Rift S VR Accessories.

These are a must with the G2 and they work perfect, just fix some convenient hooks glue on will do, job done.

Just treated myself to a new headset specifically for PCVR. I was playing Odyssey with Q2 with Link, but picked up the Neo 3 Link for £349 Absolutely blown away with it. So much better being back with Display Port connection again. So smooth, and I'm absolutely loving it. Keep thinking about selling all my prior headsets, I sold the DK1, but have kept all others since. Bit of a hoarder. My own VR museum going on. :D Anyway, for PCVR Link 3 is phenomenal for the price, and if you use Virtual desktop you can play all your old Rift titles too. BTW, I am pairing it with a 12700k and 3080ti.

Pico 3 link for the price. Unbelievable headset for the sim lover among us. Display Port is the way to go.

you might find that the reverb is quite reasonable nowadays...
ive seen it selling brand new for $300us right from hp.
with 2 screens, each 2160x2160... and 90hz refresh its a very nice headset.
and its display port.

Now, the owner of Pico is Bytedance, the ones who made Tiktok, so they are going to be the ones getting information...

there is a post buried in here that talks about the drawbacks of a pico headset too...
not sure if they are drawbacks for you, but they seem to be tech limitations that i certainly would not want to have imposed on my hardware.
