This is my current set up. No power issues.

L: 3E/G Pulse Laser
L: 3E/G Pulse Laser
U: 0C Kill Warrant Scanner
BH: 1I Lightweight Alloy
RB: 4A Power Plant
TM: 5A Thrusters
FH: 4A Frame Shift Drive
EC: 3A Life Support
PC: 5A Power Distributor
SS: 4C Sensors
FS: 3C Fuel Tank (Capacity: 8)
5: 5A Shield Generator
4: 4D Hull Reinforcement Package

Jump distance 16ly.
Still not found any Military armour.

Cost 20 million. Who said the Vulture was cheap.

Any recommendations for tweaks?

Not true, I'm sorry: there is a developer post denying that. I cannot find it right now. He says that better sensors only increase the distance of Gimbo locking on target. Not accuracy at all.

eh, source?

Again conflicting reports about Sensor Suite.
I made a threat about exactly this, and people can't seem to agree.

This is the first I'm hearing about a developer actually saying anything about it, so I want to see a source.

That quote is about turrets.

What? I thought it was confirmed that sensors do NOT make any difference for gimballed weapons?

Please do show me where it's confirmed, I'm still confused.
I'm starting to believe they make no difference at all.

Sensors are useless unless you're running with missiles that have long range.

Whether you lock on at 5km or 7km doesn't matter when your lasers can't hit from that range anyway.

I don't understand the need for more than 2. Stuff on P1 = stuff I absolutely have to have in order to fight, stuff on P2 = stuff that can be shut down during combat. Which is only FSD and Cargo Hatch (which I have disabled entrirely).

So... enlighten me! (I've only flown Cobras, Asps, T-6's and T-7's - you don't need power management on those! :D Not used to this, lol.

It's pretty simple, really.

I have four priorities. P4 I expect to go down as soon as weapons deploy, it's the functional combat priority, usually FSD and cargo hatch.

Third priority are slightly less important systems, life support and sensors. I have weapons on 2 and thrusters on 1, figuring if I'm THAT damaged I'm more likely to try and run than turn and fight.

What this means is that if/when I get a power loss, my ship won't categorically shut down HALF of my systems, but instead de-activate them in small groups, leaving me maximum possible functionality.

If everything is on two groups and you lose power, you've just de-powered most of your systems for no tangible benefit.

This is my current loadout and it has served me well so far. I'm still testing how much the extra weight affects handling though. I have the FSD and cargo hatch set to shutdown on weapons deployed and it puts me right at the power limit.

You're going to sacrifice utility mounts and/or shield cells if you want more fire power. The worse outcome is you'll have to retract hard-points to use your shield cells. There's no need for utilities or shield cells if you are just bounty hunting at RES.

Sensors are useless unless you're running with missiles that have long range.

Whether you lock on at 5km or 7km doesn't matter when your lasers can't hit from that range anyway.

Sensor optimal range does not even come close to meaning that you can lock on at these ranges. It's heavily dependent on heat out put of the target, and better sensors will pick up a target further away at a given heat level.

If I pop a heatsink, engage silent running, or simply have an exceptionally cool running build, bad sensors will fail to lock well within the 3km range of most weapons.

Yes, that one, thanks.
Yes, it's more about turrets, but I've implicitly assumed that it should be true for gimballed weapons too. I mean: better sensor are good, I always use them, but their only purpose is to detect targets at distance. If u install better sensors you'll detect target better. Not that your weapons will fire more accurately. They will lock slightly better to a much distant target, depending on its heat emission, but THAT target will be near 4/6Km, when detected, not still at fire range.
If you read carefully the official manual, carefully, it only says that.
Some Gimballed weapons inaccuracy (Class 1 mostly) was dued to a bug, not Sensors: this issue is now solved in 1.2 patch.
I'm at rank Dangerous and never found a single clear evidence of this Sensor's magic. Most of all it is impossible to test it accurately because each target will always have a different heat signature.

Better sensors since you're using gimballed.

Thanks

So far my inferior sensors are allowing me take targets out with ease.
I may stick with them and A for everything else.

The Vulture has stopped me from running away from threats now. Has allowed me to enter a RES now with confidence for the first time.

Also it was a revelation to discover the lack of power. And realise I could add kit and switch off what I was not using. The Vulture is the first ship that got me to really think about power allocation.

I am struggling to find Military Armour for it. Not sure I need it??????

my set up is a everything and a b interdictor and c3 gimballed pulse lasers and nothing switches off the only real bug bare i have is i cant fit the best shield cell bank but i havent found the need to use it much even when fiting elite condas

109% power usage and got a scb, a4 fuel scoop and all the best internals and it flys LIke a dream! just with there were more weapons to choose from in game.
