Newcomer / Intro Was I just unlucky or is this how Open play works?

I was in solo mode though? :(

I tried a Hauler for exploration (no cargo) but got no where due to NPC interdictions and its very limited ability to fight (I actually took down an Eagle!). Enter the same area in a Cobra and interdictions are rarer and easy to win, in an Adder somewhere in the middle. It seems, fairly reasonably that if you are an easier target you will get stopped more often.

In my Vulture in LHS3447 I get no problem at all with interdictions :)

I generally stay away from the home systems but the only time I have got stopped by a player pirate was near Altair, I lost. So to the OP, you were probably a combination of an easy target and unlucky.

Or join the Mobius PvE group. You'll see other commanders and you can fight them in conflict zones once you've chosen sides, but you can still truck around quietly when you wish.

Yeah, that's a good suggestion tbh. But who's to say that you still don't get ganked? There's no "friendly fire off" -type of option.

DO NOT fight if you go exploring, there's no sense to do so if you try to go far away since there's a chance you get some hull damage... I don't even have weapons in my hauler since you need all extra jumping range you can get.

I'm back!

So yeah, unlucky again another player named Spock77 thought it'd be a nice idea to shoot me down with little to no warning.

I'm currently omw to a station to buy new modules with the measly 24K CR I have.

*Blip* [Local]:"cargo?"

I'm like... great... before I even get a chance to answer he interdicts me and shoot me out of the sky.

He literally got nothing for it, I wasn't wanted, had nothing of value on me as I'm currently trying to find a cheap detail scanner so I can begin exploring.... ugh

There's no telling what people will do when you encounter them in-game.

As with any club, you can't guarantee that every member will obey the rules ... but you can expel them from the clubhouse :)

Unfortunately if had the exact same situation happen to me as the OP. Only difference being after I was scanned and got the 180k credit fine (110t of battle weapons) he "encouraged" me to dump my entire load and then sat there and watched it all expire "hey I'll let you move into the middle of the heap and you can take a selfie, no players are allowed to help the Feds in the community challange". 30sec later interdicted again by a proper player pirate role playing and all that and was equally dissapointed when he found out I had no cargo.
Always played open but not anymore while trading, might come back as a escort when I rebuy my vulture.

This changed in 1.2. It takes longer for the FSD to spool up, even if you submit. And if the ship is larger, it can mass lock you and outrun you. So, submitting to interdiction doesn't mean you can boost and jump away.

I run a T6 in Open, with Class A modules all round.

My FSD cool down is probably less than five seconds from exiting SuperCruise, so my evade and escape process is to submit, set throttle to maximum while exiting SuperCruise, hit the boost button while putting the stick in to the top left corner to present as much of a moving target as I can, then re-enter SuperCruise.

I run three pips each to SYS and ENG, have no weapons installed at all.

On only one occasion did shields go down, and I started to take hull damage.

After three weeks in Open, I've yet to encounter a CMDR in any location I've visited, I move around between a dozen or so systems, running fetch and carry missions, only doing commodity trades to keep the cargo hold full.

I'm sure a CMDR could wipe me out before I could blink, but that's why I always have enough cash for the rebuy and to replace any cargo I may have lost.

When you are new in open world try to avoid all more visited system including CG which are visited a lot.

So responding to myself :) I think I had my first player interdiction last night. Wasn't sure, as the sensor blip appeared to be solid, so I just assumed NPC, and did my evade and escape routine, without selecting the ship, but then I realised that the name coming in the Comm window wasn't your ordinary NPC name, but something more like a username, and what was said appeared to be unscripted.

So my first non-NPC encounter, and got away clean.

Unfortunately as a trader in a T6 you have no defense against a tooled up pirate. This is exactly as was intended by the game designers. That it is a tragic failure of game mechanics is a elephant to be ignored. Congratulations on Elite.

I wish you could hire an NPC wingman for that exact scenario.

After 3 days of grinding i managed to buy a cobra found a reasonably profitable route and was making my second return run with newly added cargo bays so was carrying 40 tons of gear with a purchase value of 30000cr with a prospective profit of 10000cr when i got ID 1ls from my target station I lasted less than 10 seconds this was the first ID I had lost all in all it cost me approx 75k after paying insurance and so I put my trading career on hold sold the cobra bought a viper kitted it out and have been just hanging around resource extraction sites taking bounties, this is all in solo still don't feel ready to go into open yet want more credit and experience.

Did you try and resist the interdiction or submit and then run? I've never had issues with a Cobra since you can out-run almost anything.
