Watching the current livestream...

Well, they do that too - Thursdays (theoretically).

Is it just mis-communication? They run the lunchtime streams but don't tend to say upfront 'no news, we're just playing' - so it's not incredibly surprising people turn up and ask what is new (though some of the repeat offenders certainly know better). And so each time you have the 'presenters turn up, introduce themselves, read the chat, tell people they are in the wrong place' narrative, rather than being more up-front.

Maybe they need some marquee text scrolling across the screen saying 'No news, just bantz' or something (as people turn up throughout the stream because ... streaming).

Things about all this is - it takes time to do interesting stuff. The answer we'll probably get if we demand 'only interesting and innovative streams' is probably 'on this month's stream we have ...'
What's wrong with monthly (good) streams instead of weekly (pointless) streams?

I could be wrong, since I don't watch let's plays, but to me it seems like there are only 80 people watching it for the sole purpose of spamming pointless questions.

What can they talk about in the Livestreams regarding 2020 DLC?... everyone already knows they are space legs, base building and atmospheric planets because of the 'leak' /s

One can almost picture the salt avalanche should those lovely CM's mention that the DLC is something else entirely :)

[...]

In that case, wouldn't now be a good time for that avalanche rather than have it taint the release?

This week's Thursday stream is the Hutton Truckers launching their community thing - you could say it's pointless as it isn't news about the next release, and isn't the devs spilling the beans, but I think the truckers will be looking forward to it (and it sounds like fun). Lots of different views of pointless.

You do get people turn up and ask about the game - normally there is only 1 or 2 spammers. The lunchtime streams can be a relaxing time if you're in the mood, but they're not for everyone.

There's room for fdev to do more - I would certainly like they to do more - but telling them "Don't do stuff for others, do stuff only for me!" doesn't seem a useful thing to me 🤷‍♀️

Through recent years they have been dropping new content every 3-4 months. Not sure I would want that reduced to yearly.
You are correct. I forgot the starter experience (irrelevant to me but not to others, granted) being added in September, and cannot recall for the life of me what was added in April though (I shall google it). The last update I'd personally call a sizeable chunk of new content was 3.3, hence the 'annual' in my post.

Edit: https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/April_Update

Technically content - in the same vein as calling a peanut a 'meal'.

Personally I think they should just stop with the Let's Play nonsense. Focus on more communication on the forums instead.
If they do a livestream it should be about development of past, current and future content / features.
As I said earlier, ED is not a game that lends itself towards Let's Play and idle chit-chat. If the powers that be have decreed that all Frontier games will have a Let's Play, maybe the answer is for Paige & Stephen to role play it? Start the series with a backstory, eg "I am Cmdr xx and my goal is to investigate the Formindine Rift" and then play the entire thing in character. Kind of like Blind Pew on YouTube.

Just an idea...

If there are hundreds of people who enjoy these streams I would never suggest to stop them.
After reading this thread it didn't seem like that.

Ah yes - perils of believing things said around here :) Check the chat on the twitch stream Please forums stop turning this into a player, it's not useful.

- I had a look from around 30 & 40 mins and it was mostly people asking questions and being helpful. I'm sure there were people being less happy at the start but hey - we're used to the forums, so we know how the world is :D

(OT: Damn - twitch seem to have broken the viewing experience - it used to be much nicer)

They could take a lesson from the Queen, who telegraphs messages by what she wears and what she has on her desk.

A photo of a pair of feet would do wonders to excite the Legs crowd, and a sketch of a base under construction, perhaps hanging on the wall behind, would also be beneficial. Maybe even an image of Yamiks under fire would send a subliminal message to eager viewers ......

Right, they can show anything new: paintjob, artwork, concept art. Some hints of upcoming stuff.

Here's how you do a good livestream: show off concept stage stuff, show old dev videos and how that's progressed over time, show gameplay, show alpha gameplay, joke about RNGesus - generally know your community and engage with them.

Seriously watch bits of the video (top comment has timestamps) and see how it compares to FDev ones.

Rebecca (and Megan) could actually play the game too.
Warframe's Community Management is the #1 in the industry IMO. It would be fantastic if FDev's top-brass gave the great CMs the empowerment to implement similar informative/discussion content

FDev broadcast on multiple platforms simultaneously - Youtube, Twitch, Mixer - with the lunchtime streams (the topic of the thread) pulling ~300 concurrent viewers across all the platforms normally.

Newsletter 92, which I received on 25 September 2015, talks about the whole of the coming Horizon season.

Frontier were happy to advertise the upcoming contents months and months in advance.
Based on the examples you both have provided, I look forward to receiving information on Q4's New Era sometime in August (as per Horizons' announcement) and September (as per newsletter 92) this year then :)

I think the takeaway there is that Waframe extras are Dig. Extremes main source of income, so they have to keep the game fresh and inviting. With FD, they don't have that imperative having many franchises pooled. While I would be very happy having FD do the same I think the people holding the money have a different model to work from.

And if they are planning updates for 2021 they still have 8 months to do the same. 🤷‍♂️
In September 2015, Frontier was indicating the content that was coming in May 2016, October 2016 and April 2017. My point is obvious, Frontier know what is coming in late 2020, they must have done the bulk of the work, they choose not to tell us, probably for marketing reasons.
