"We are listening to the community"...

I think the OP is missing the point.

Enough players may have said they want in game cosmetics... Frontier "IS" a business after all. ARX doesn't cost real money so I'm no really sure what the problem is?

Literally will moan about anything this player base.

ITS NOT COSTING YOU MONEY TO EARN IN GAME COSMETICS

You should know better. Arx will be something like this...

... just to tease people to spend even more money for pink engine trails. This whole thing has nothing to do with the whole Elite game, and when I see the current extremely buggy state of this game, hence the still missing kickstarter features, I think Frontier has turned away from its old idea, and is trying to become a chinese customer milking machine. It´s definetely not the company I spent money in Kickstarter for.

I wonder who of you guys screamed "ARX" when it comes to the question "What feature would you like to see next"?

Honestly - one out of 100.000?
I see OP point.. Yes I remember discussions in the past about being able to earn cosmetic ingame rather than spending real money. It's also true that the community asked other features louder that have been ignored so far...
New SRV's
New planetary gameplay
New mission types
Ice planets? (a bit surprised fdev showed nothing)
Universal Limpets Controller
More gameplay in supercruise
Better outfitting menu with filters and ability to save ship configurations
...
Bla

Not sure about that.

I mean, let's say I'm not prepared to spend £3 on a paint pack.

I then find that I can earn 5 Arx for finishing in the top 10% of a CG, so I spend 50 hours flogging a CG to death.
I then find that a paint pack costs, say, 3000 Arx.

Guess what's going to happen next?

I'm going to go straight back to ignoring CGs and I'm still not going to spend £3 on the paint pack.

If FDev can find players who're daft enough to spend real money to "top-up" their Arx in order to buy things that they weren't actually going to buy before, good luck to them.
Frankly, I suspect they'll be disappointed in the uptake if that is their plan, though.

Here we are, speculating on what returns will be for our in game efforts. How about we shush and wait to see what happens, then complain, rather than speculate and complain about out likely false speculations

I don't mind the Arx thing at all if we can purchase exactly the amount we need for an item and things don't become more expensive.
Being able to buy only one paintjob out of a pack is also very welcome. I own a few paintjob packs though I only wanted a specific one.

Just what the game needed after years of chronic underdevelopment, still born features, bugs that have a life you can count in years....a new currency

Captain Edward J. Smith: "move that deckchair one inch to the left"

Extra ARX for anyone who gets the reference....

Also ARX it's what kids from south london say instead of "ask".....seriously....this planet.

Yea, it’s a standard industry practice now for games to have a currency other than money. It’s obvious this is a practice that is quite lucrative in getting people to purchase items with currency that is meaningless. Industry trends start due to a popular method for making money.

The general public is full of imbeciles. I don’t care how a company makes money as long as they’re honest and transparent. This fake currency trend is not honest and prays on the general public’s consumption without consequence nature.

Can you explain to me how else they can give you a currency in-game that I can spend in the store without them literally giving me real-world currency for just playing their game? Because no matter how I look at it, I see three options:

1) You dont get to earn anything in-game you can use in the store.
2) They pay us real money we can spend in-store, or anywhere else.
3) They give us a currency we can spend in the store, but not elsewhere.

The first option is lame, the second is . They decided to go with the third.

Well here is number 4:
They could've tied paintjobs and specific bodykits to faction reputation, making that earnable and
having a reason to use the reputation system more. Totally currency free.

Im pretty happy to get a way to purchase new cosmetics from the game client witbout getting booted to a website storefront.
And quite happy that they can now be earned through gameplay.

This entire nerdfest is stupid.

FD:"We'll improve the rendering for better quality paints, and you can now earn them in-game. And if you want to buy them, you can now buy them individually without having to buy a pack."
Weird people:"I AM A VICTIM!"

But then I can't chose what I want. I'd rather chose my own paint than have FD decide for me...

You'd choose directly by playing your style and paints would be unlocked naturally due to your behaviour.
Want pirate paints? Be a pirate and help them.
Easy system, no more tacked on currency needed, you'd still be able to leave your sour earned money in their shredders for a direct purchase.

It would be stupid not to do this. The current system is not optimal for revenue. Also those points will likely be gained by logging in, signing into community goals, or there will be a very low cap for other ingame activity, because the game is too weak against exploits, and people won't buy those points if there are many.

Naturally considering other development I would wish they focused on strengths and unique charasteristics of this particular product, instead of chasing perceived mainstream features, also known as dumbing down. Maybe it's unlikely... But this game is not going to be competitive trying to be something it's not.

Probably bad timing due to community divided on several issues and partially in riot mode, but then, there never is a good timing. I would personally be fine if they announced future changes to networking, many other features might as well be their own bad if they can't produce more intriguing game mechanisms.

I think Kickstarter was mistake, it attracted way too many entitled whiners.
If you can't be happy about a successful launch and continuous support for content and improvements for 5 years but make ridiculous claims instead, I don't really care for which company you spent money. Even the worst company would probably be still too good.
