We have been looking forward to Chinese for too long

I express my support. I have recommended space games to my friends many times. But in the end, most of them chose EVE or Star Citizen with Chinese language options. 。If there are Chinese characters (even just UI and tasks) in the future, I believe there will be many new players joining enthusiastically.

I completely agree! Thank you to the friend who made this post. I have been hoping for a Chinese language option in this game for many years, as it would make it much easier for me to understand the content and enjoy playing more comfortably. After returning to the game years later, I can see that it is getting better and better. Now is the time to add Chinese to Elite Dangerous! If the developers can fulfill the expectations of the Chinese community, I believe it will attract more Chinese players to purchase the game, and we would be truly grateful!(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

I bought ED in December 2018, and played 6000+hours without languge support.
It's very difficult to hands on at each stages of the game, especially when you need to constantly search and translate much things such as proper noun technical term and so on. (Such as some engineer's experimentale ffects not detailed enough, CG POI and news text… if you always want to know what happend or happening)
Sometimes I want recommend ED to my friends, but when they heard that there was no Chinese language support, most of them are refused.
FDev did quite well in space simulation games for now, there are also many players who use Chinese, and we hope to arrange for localization of the language soon.

Elite Dangerous has a very unique and irreplaceable charm, but because of the lack of Chinese language, I tried to play the game three times and eventually gave up. But I still search every once in a while to see if there is a Chinese translation of this game.

Now it should be easier to use AI translation for language support than before, and I hope that the feasibility of using ai translation to support Chinese language can be evaluated once again.

I'm a Chinese player who restart the journey in Elite: Dnagerous very recently. I bought this game in 2019 and soonly gave up playing it mainly because of the language barrier in the game. Andy is correct that we have Professor y1n4 teaching us how to play the game, but it takes to0 long to watch the videos (the videos he made for the Horizon version is about 5 hours long, excluding the Odyssey videos) and read the posts. While I was watching his videos, I found that I spent most of the time on understanding meaning of the words. Now I don't see any language barrier problems but it is still there for beginners.

The reason why I picked up this game again was because I watched the video about rescuing a fleet carrieand 2 Chinese CMDRs in HIP 58832 made by Andy. And luckily I found the group of Chinese CMDR and has gained so much help from the community. I would like to see more Chinese CMDRs in the future without any language barrier in the future.

Well, actually, that's not the case lol. Nowadays, Mandarin is taught in schools, and dialects are usually taught within families. I don’t see too many people complaining about using Mandarin, but it’s true that some dialects are spoken less nowadays, just ike Gaelic nowdays in Ireland. In regions like Xinjiang or Tibet, the government uses a bilingual approach to preserve local cultures. In these areas, everything is written in two languages (Mandarin and Tibetan or Mandarin and Uyghur).
Within China perhaps, though here Cantonese is the principal dialect in use and thus most easily accessible.

This is an amazing game! I have been playing it for quite a long time. As a 1:1 sandbox game, it is incredibly fun and immersive! I have also tried to share it with my friends on many occasions. However, there is a harsh reality that often gets in the way: Elite: Dangerous lacks localization, which can create a somewhat disjointed experience for players. I sincerely hope that the developers can pay attention to this issue. Thank you very much!

I first discovered this game through a Bilibili content creator’s video around 2017, where they suggested trying Elite Dangerous instead of waiting for Star Citizen. The visuals and gameplay were captivating, but my old PC couldn’t handle it, and without Chinese support, I stayed on the sidelines. In 2020, after upgrading my PC and catching a sale, I finally purchased it. However, the language barrier made the learning curve steep, and with limited time, I put it aside. Recently, disappointed with Star Citizen, I revisited Elite Dangerous. Without Chinese, I’m confined to basic activities like mining and trading, though the VR experience remains refreshing. I’ve recommended it to friends, but they refuse to buy due to the lack of localization, and my own limited knowledge prevents me from guiding them. I’m stuck lurking in Baidu Tieba communities.

I wonder if the developers review Steam feedback—many Chinese negative reviews cite the absence of Chinese as a major issue. With AI advancements and tools like DeepL lowering translation costs, why not implement basic localization? Even if the storyline remains untranslated, localizing menus and core UI would attract more Chinese players. I was pleasantly surprised to find the official website now has Chinese, indicating the company values our market. But why no in-game localization? It puzzles me.

I sincerely hope the game continues to improve. One additional concern: Odyssey lacks VR support. Since the base game included VR, there’s clear potential. Adding VR compatibility would likely draw more VR enthusiasts to the expansion.
