Weeks of hard grinding, all gone in an instant (please help)

I don't know what to do

I started in a sidewinder about a month ago, and just earlier today I finally got a Clipper. Outfitted for trade.

My trade route is only 11ly from each system, and so I figured I would be fine for my first big haul. I spend 1.5mil in commodities, and I set out for the 3 minute trip to the next station.

Warp in, get to station, slow down for auto dock. I get up to grab a drink from the kitchen. Walk back in room, look at screen.

"NOOOO!" I'm screaming in my head, as I watch the docking computer boost my Clipper into the mailslot sideways. SIDEWAYS!!!!!! I've never had a problem with the docking computer before, why now?

Boom, dead. No shields cuz trading.

Ok, no big deal. I lose all my cargo.

But then I see the bill. I can't afford it. I start freaking out. I deselect all the modules. I'm 82k short.

gg

I spent the last hour in rage. I don't know what to do. Is there any way I can get the ship back at a future date? Did I waste a month of my life only to lose e everything? I enjoy this game a lot, I'm hoping this isn't the end. Please help.

Sorry if this sounds flippant - but I learned this the hard-way back when I was in a Cobra (this was pre-release... there were no community missions or fast-routes to cash... or if they were I didn't know about them, took me a long while to get to my Cobra).

I never made that mistake again.

You were so excited, you entered a high-risk scenario, and alas - paid the ultimate price.

Hey, at least you won't do it again :)

sorry there is no help, just always follow the golden rule, never fly without credits to cover insurance, it shows the rebuy cost in your status screen. And check it after buying cargo.

I almost made that mistake on release in my Viper. Trading was a pain, there were no trading tools and you couldn't farm RES or nav beacons for easy Credits. I had to downgrade to a Hauler after losing my Viper.

Honestly, it's not such a big deal now. Get a Hauler use a trading tool, find a nice 1 jump system and trade to and from. As soon as you can buy a Cobra and do the same. Then upgrade to a Type 6 and then Type 7. If you get a decent round trip you'll be flying a Type 7 within a week if you're playing moderately.

Submit a ticket ASAP and ignore the impending comments about insurance...

(Good luck)

Whilst you are quite right (as it appears to be a docking-computer bug), it really is best-practice not to take that risk. I for one would never trust my ship to that whilst simultaneously leaving the computer...

I'll be flippant, and I mean no offense, Docking is no time to go afk if you can't wait 2 mins then learn2patience, then learn2dock, then go afk. And as always the customary don't fly without insurance.

Thank you all who referred the support ticket, I did not know such a thing existed. Huge sigh of relief.

I've used the computer hundreds of times, never had an issue once. The thing is it was all going smoothly until the ship got close to the opening, turned sideways, then went full throttle. If I wanted to stop it I don't think I could of.

Telling people how to play is the best, isn't it? Your trail is so much better than their trail.

I guess that's what being flippant is all about, If someone is going to complain for something that is their fault then i guess it's ok to be flippant. It's like the person who spills hot coffee on themselves then sue the company they bought it from.

Well, based upon the OP raging, I do somewhat see your point. I don't necessarily agree with your stance on patience, docking and so forth - but then I do keep a large insurance buffer, just in case.

Sorry for your loss, frontier might help if you ask. I don't use docking computers for this reason and make sure you always have your insurance rebuy covered. It's been said hundreds of times before. 1 more day of grinding before you upgraded and you would have avoided this completely. Good luck

LOL all good, im just pointing out that self responsibility and accountability is still a thing. And patience is still a virtue, wait until your ship is safely docked then go afk. If you fly without insurance accept the responsibility of the consequences of the choice you made..I'm not trying to be mean, but sometimes tough love is the best love..
