ANNOUNCEMENT Welcome to the new forums!

Brett C

Frontier
Hi,

I'm not sure where to report forum problems.

I want to change my Forum Avatar, but each time I upload a new one, the old one comes back.

I have tried deleting my old one. Then my avatar is just a D
But even after an hour, when I try to upload a new avatar, the old one still appears.

One difference in my avatar is that the old one is a multi frame GIF.
It displays on the forum with only the first frame.
When I try to upload a new one, other frames scroll by for a moment and then it sticks to the first frame again.

If the new forum doesn't support muli-frame GIF avatars, then can I please have mine changed to:

Quality of Life Changes with the New Forum:

Having used the New Forum system for ..... has it only been a week ? ..... I must say I like the following improvements:

Direct posting of images again ...hooray! ... so long as you convert them to jpegs.

A useful notification system to new posts. I can return to the forum and see the alerts to new messages, likes, etc. by viewing the list and, if necessary, viewing them one by one, straight to the comment even if it is buried among many subsequent posts.

The ability to type a message (as here), or to reply to one, is quick and easy.

The use of colors for emphasis is really handy.

I still dislike the white on black default for DD. It's acceptable for short paragraphs, but a serious eyestrain for walls of text.

But overall, a job well done (y)

For my part I like the white writing on black background that I use for years on the Frontier forum.

And the black writing on a white background is something quite normal (always for me). It is as if I am on the Microsoft office suite or on the web pages of the majority of sites.

I adjust the brightness and contrast of my screen for the comfort.

:)

Three points that are irritating with the Alerts list:

1 "There may be more posts after this" ...... in every .... single ..... alert. We don't need it over and over.

2 If a moderator posts a comment, they are referred to as "The OP replied "

3 We also don't need a word count for the replies every time.

If you can fix these as QOL improvements, the alerts will be more concise.

Is there also a fix that takes you to the actual post in the notification. I very notified that someone has commented on your post only to find I have to manually look for it rather than it going directly to the quote etc

If you click on the highlighted text in orange, it should take you directly to the relevant post. At least it does for me :)

Is not working for me. I'm using s9 android on pie os. It's rather bizarre. But I do have an app that can record my screen I'll try and get a video linked in here so you can see

Works for me on a Google Pixel 2 XL on Android Pie (9.x). I'm using Chrome for Android, not the default 'Browser'. It did, in fact, bring me directly to this post I'm replying to.

I've just unninstalled and reinstalled my browser and it's working now. Woohoo. It's the simple things in life that make me smile

The new forum has a good presentation. The menus as well as the design and contrast of the orange, grey and black colours were an excellent choice that made it easier to read and search. Thanks to the web design team.

I was so happy to hear about the new forum. The first thing I thought was: they'll change the colour scheme! No more black with white text.
Thank God. I love them. They have finally answered my prayers. Everything is better now. Then I loaded it up....

Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh! My eyes!!!!!!!!!!! MY eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Commanders,

Welcome to the new and improved Frontier Forums! We're so happy to have you here! Everything is now live and running on XenForo. All of our game forums are now together on one platform, and there are some great new features and improvements!

Here’s what you can expect from the new forums:

New Forum Features
  • Native mobile support with a responsive theme
  • New forum trophies
  • The developer tracker!
  • Personal news feed - follow your friends to see what they're up to!
  • A modern-day WYSIWYG editor
  • Native Two-Factor support
  • Post reaction system - replaces the vBulletin reputation system
  • Push Notifications - get notified in seconds on your mobile or desktop
  • Rich link previews.
  • Post & Thread bookmarking
  • Auto-embed of social posts. Just place the URL in your post, boom - it's embedded!
  • Basic video upload and auto-embed support (limited to MP4, WEBM and OGG currently)
  • Sidebar widgets (on the right side)
  • Inline spoilers. When you tab or click on the text, it'll de-spoiler!
Here's a couple of features that are changing slightly on Xenforo (though the functionality/use remains the same!)

Reputation
Reputation on vBulletin does not exist as reputation on XenForo. Basically, reputation on the old forums has now been converted into post likes.

Emoticons/Smilies?
Smilies from the previous vBulletin are not included on Xenforo, as it natively supports emoticons.

Where is my signature picture?
XenForo does not support directly uploaded signature pictures. You will need to host the images elsewhere and then use the image function in the editor to link to them to your profile.

Why are attachments missing from various posts?
Numerous attachments that have not had any recent views have been removed from the attachments database. Attachments take up a huge portion of our forum storage, so we took this opportunity to clean up a little!

If you have any feedback about the new forums, or any changes we have made to older sections, please feel free to reply here with your thoughts. Should you have any other questions, we're around to help you ASAP!

Thank you so much for bearing with us through this process; we are so excited about the new look and feel of everything. We hope you find your new home just as welcoming as they should be.

How do I opt out of the stupid forum 'awards'.
It is a long, long time since I was five years old - at least phsically, if not mentally.
I find these sort of things rather patranoising - and somewhat demeaning.
YVMV of course.

Here's a style I made for the dark parts. Note that it breaks the light parts.
CSS:
html {
    font-family: Roboto,Oxygen,Ubuntu,Cantarell,'Fira Sans','Droid Sans',sans-serif;
}

.structItemContainer {
    background: #222;
}

.structItem-title {
    font-weight: 100;
}

.message-body {
    font-family: Calibri;
    font-size: 14px;
}

.block--messages .message {
    color: #d0d0d0;
    background: #222;
    border-color: #ff9000;
}

.message-cell.message-cell--user {
    background: #333;
    border-right-color: #ff9000;
}

.message-userArrow {
    border-right-color: #ff9000;
}

.message-userArrow::after {
    border-right-color: #222;
}

.block-container {
    background: #222;
    border-color: #ff9000;
}
