Welcome to the new and improved Frontier Forums! We're so happy to have you here! Everything is now live and running on XenForo. All of our game forums are now together on one platform, and there are some great new features and improvements!

Here’s what you can expect from the new forums:

New Forum Features
  • Native mobile support with a responsive theme
  • New forum trophies
  • The developer tracker!
  • Personal news feed - follow your friends to see what they're up to!
  • A modern-day WYSIWYG editor
  • Native Two-Factor support
  • Post reaction system - replaces the vBulletin reputation system
  • Push Notifications - get notified in seconds on your mobile or desktop
  • Rich link previews.
  • Post & Thread bookmarking
  • Auto-embed of social posts. Just place the URL in your post, boom - it's embedded!
  • Basic video upload and auto-embed support (limited to MP4, WEBM and OGG currently)
  • Sidebar widgets (on the right side)
  • Inline spoilers. When you tab or click on the text, it'll de-spoiler!

Here's a couple of features that are changing slightly on Xenforo (though the functionality/use remains the same!)

Reputation
Reputation on vBulletin does not exist as reputation on XenForo. Basically, reputation on the old forums has now been converted into post likes.

Emoticons/Smilies?
Smilies from the previous vBulletin are not included on Xenforo, as it natively supports emoticons.

Where is my signature picture?
XenForo does not support directly uploaded signature pictures. You will need to host the images elsewhere and then use the image function in the editor to link to them to your profile.

Why are attachments missing from various posts?
Numerous attachments that have not had any recent views have been removed from the attachments database. Attachments take up a huge portion of our forum storage, so we took this opportunity to clean up a little!

Can we please have an option to switch ED main forum to light theme? It's incredible strain to my eyes to a forum in white text / black background. Besides, when you go to preferences/other forums they're white. I've read forums in white for 5 years, now it's a real pain.

Changing theme only seems to affect the main forum page, all subforums override choice. (Or did I do it wrong)? Dark theme on Elite forums is horrible.

Edit: And there doesn't seem to be a way to disable the "online" indicator ? Or is it really hidden somewhere ?

Meh, it's ok I guess. Would have been nice to be told that my old forum user/pass wasn't going to work in this new version sometime before it was implemented though, and now it's all going to be blocked at work too.

More of a side step in functionality than a step forward in my opinion, with some parts even being a step backwards.

Hey CMDR, there isn't a way to change the game specific themes I'm afraid. You may be able to use something like the Stylish browser add-on to change things if you'd like. I'll feed it back all the same! :)

Is there a way to get to the first new post in a thread?

There's a jump to new at the top, but can I do that from the forum or only once I'm in a thread?

Guess it does that automatically?

Well, no forums for me then, unfortunately. There's no way someone would enjoy black/white background change all the time by going to ED forum and other parts of new forum. I stopped enjoying rave parties about 20 years ago. :geek:

Anyways. Bad decision / limitation from a new system indeed. I can't look at black background for more than few seconds.
