Well Done Frontier, you knocked this one out of the park

So yes multi-crew lets you do stuff togethor in a new way, but in truth you're generally just doing less of the same stuff you've been doing for 2+ years basically...

Note: Asteroid bases underline your point perfectly. Do they offer absolutely anything new, for example new gameplay/depth for piracy? No they're just pretty reskinned new stations.
I disagree on asteroid bases, it's always good to have more variety in the scenery. Though I don't know how common FDev have made them. It'd suck if they're rare. Same to megaships etc.

Otherwise you're exactly right. The gameplay content is the same - same incredibly simplistic mission scenarios, same incredibly simplistic/meaningless trading/mining systems & 'dynamic' economy, same inability to find out anything about the 'evolving' storyline of the game other than reading gigantic walls of text on the forums or whatever.

Could this be when it all starts coming together?
It certainly felt that way after an hour or so of play.
Just in time for the PS4 release!
That sort of revenue could butter many parsnips.

Haven't had too much time to play around with this, but have to say despite not being fussed about Multi-crew myself, this is a great update so far from what I've seen. Well done FD!:)

this game is dying.

if someone is excited for this content and can't realize that the game is always the same..the content is always the same...

ok, you love the multicrew...I see. i don't but it's mine problem...

so, get over the multicrew. the other things are .. a nice but unuseful HOLO ME... and a nice Camera.

the excited CMDR says:
"hell yes, i have my multicrew... what can we do now?!"

I can answer to him:
Always the same things.
always.

content upgrade are = zero

trading is always dying
exploring is always the same
combat is the same thing since years

i was enter yesterday evening (my last access was 2.2.17)

tried Holo Me
tried Camera.

logoff.

sorry , not well done

Sounds like someone needs a break and a cuddle...

I learned a long time ago, Elite is much deeper and richer than even most of the veteran player base realizes, including some of the devs! It's really just far too complex and sweeping for most individuals to grasp every facet. I've been playing for 2 years, I know quite a bit more than the average veteran, and I am still doing daily experiments to learn new things.

All of this complexity and layering means that Frontier's is a different kind of sandbox. It's the kind that is designed to accessible by all kinds and yes it certainly caters to casual and inexpert play as well. However, you can still get out of it whatever you put into it. So some people will play it like checkers (which is absolutely fine), but others who have been a little further down the rabbit hole, can also play it like chess.

Now the chess level isn't necessary to succeed or enjoy the game, but it sure is a lot more fun and engaging IMHO. Multicrew adds another layer that causes many of the other layers of mechanics to converge in interesting and dynamic ways. So while some people think that wings are inherently better or stronger than multicrews, they are missing some key bits of info that even the score, at least in terms of PVE effectiveness. And to a certain extent, PvP as well.

Very true and well said --I have recently begun to see this very thing as true

The thing that hampers many from realizing this though is when superficial elements such as radar screens changing to a glare one can barely see the blips and other HUD and interior unnecessary mess ups and some of the other things cmdrs are noting. These sort of things will blind those that have yet to refine their perception of the reality of this game.
When these superficial yet important elements are released in these conditions its as if someone magically changes the outer look of your Ferrari into a F-150.

So, after downloading and setting up the new keybinds (took me some 30 minutes to find out what works best) i went straight into it.
In Jameson Memorial added some shiny ship names and plates on my big 3 and some other ships. Tested how graphics and framerate look like, didn´t notice any difference so all good.
Then joined a mentoring multicrew session in a T9... very nice multicrew cockpit, had a nice chat with the helm commander, made 2 new friends.
Afterwards joined a bountyhunting anaconda, tried fighter gameplay first, very nice, great fun. Tried the gunner role afterwards, had to change some keybinds, but it was fun too. Quite powerful, those turrets ignoring chaff. Made 2 new friends.
Later on i joined an anaconda commander out exploring, 10k LY from Sag A. He was just getting ready to call it a day, searching for a nice planet to land on, where he wanted me to try out flying on the surface in a fighter before he wanted to go to bed.
Unfortunately, after 4 hours of multicrew, that was the moment when multicrew crashed for the first time. But, i made another friend.

So to sum up: Yes multicrew still has some issues, and more roles would be nice. BUT: Whether intended by FD or not, this feature is fun and breathing new life into the game. I never made more friends in such a short amount of time, i didn´t really see ANY reason not to play in open and switch back to solo in 6 hours of gameplay.
And i haven´t even started playing with the guys in my playergroup since i´m on vacation and they are not.
Great patch, Elite finally feels more like a multiplayer online game than ever before. Get the bugs adressed and i can see this game going on for a loooong time. Oh and, have my money for more plates! Thanks FDev!

I've only started playing this game about a little over a year ago. I feel like it's finally coming together.

Of course once you become a master pilot who can easily fly with FA off and have a fleet of max upgraded ships there isn't much to do. But I doubt many people are at that stage.

I just enjoy flying a spaceship in combat.

refine my perception? to what? A fairy dust lover? Elite triggers the carl attitude of S.P.A.Z. in me realissing: That the engineers of 3303 are imbeciles not even able to solve the most trivial issues. So window tech has not solved toned down windows not blurring my radar? Wow, what pre 2000 tech. And even if that would be, no one so far considered making a more reliable radar HUD that isn't going to be unreadable under specific conditions? Is that how you design a billion dollar ships radar HUD? Some people take "subtsances" and enter a rich and deep experience by just sitting in a room, but sry Elite isn't a weird subtsance it is a so called Sci fi game where you need a load of fairy dust consumption to explain the massive technical imability of 3303's engineers. Because the reality of this game is not a well crafted universe where the only explanation is that engineers are derp and dump to not find solutions we already found today.

The game is far form complex, that is something some very commited people have to tell themselves to keep motivated playing something without much subtsance. But there is an objective truth of features and thats not denyable.

Spell check? Is it just me or do the forums get more unhinged with each release?

I for one can't wait to get home tonight and download the new stuff.

I congratz on the update as well - I absolutely love the new camera, I had fun in character creator, and I think they upgraded the overall lighting in game. Despite all the bugs good job FD!

Love this update. Being able to play with my son last night, him launching the fighter and me laying down heavy fire in my conda. Brilliant fun.

Although I probably won't use multicrew much, I think it was a big step and framework with the character and face creator where great work was done on the facial expressions and animations. It's better than the Andromeda farce, and far better than what egoSoft ever did for npcs in their X-games despite their years of successive titles with the accompanying revenue.

I'd imagine in the future such as season 7 with spacelegs where you are walking around in the rotating section of the station and seeing the shops and bars & missions, player owned shops/apts/repair centers etc. with all the npcs and all the faces already well rendered and varied due to what they already did with 2.3
