What animals need a rework?

I know they've been brought up before but I'd like to bring more attention to the spotted hyena. I was super excited to use them again today but was a little disappointed upon being reminded of how off their model is. Unlike most of the game's carnivorans which are too chunky these guys are way too skinny, although they do share the same problem of being a little too rounded (especially in the ears). They also look way too doglike. Something about the muzzle feels a little off to me as well although I can't quite put my finger on what, and the legs might be a tad too long. I admit I'm a little biased as hyenas are some of my favorite animals and while I'm happy to have them in the game at all, I can't help but feel like these adorable and underrated creatures weren't done justice.

Slightly off topic side note, but a leucistic hyena was recently spotted in the wild (excuse the pun), and I'd love to have this variation in game (as well as a second hyena species for that matter, but that's way besides the point).

I addition to all that, the fur and patter could be much better by today standards.

Can definitely see the Problem with the Hind Legs and the Ears. I think the Spotted Hyena also doesn't have any Variations in the Game despite some having really strong pronounced Spots while others have them way less visible in Real Life and then there would of course also be darker Fur Colors. Wish they would at least do that if they won't allow us to keep properly sized Packs despite some Zoos having no Problem with that

Hot take: everything is fine except the Malayan tapir.
It's a game, not everything will look perfect. Especially the animals that were done early in development. The in-game animals all look close enough to the animal they're supposed to represent, and distinct enough from other animals. Even the Himalayan brown bear, which looks nothing like a real Himalayan brown bear, looks distinct enough from the grizzly it's fine. The bactrian camel looks like a dromedary with two humps, but while we still have only one camel species it's a camel and it looks like a camel, it's fine.

They do have a few variants in game (I was able to find three: the pretty similar looking golden and sandy ones, and an almost Lion King esque grey furred one) although they seem to be just be a few shifts in value and saturation. Even if they don’t get a remodel, I agree that a few more contrasting variants alone would do wonders, especially regarding the spots. Real spotted hyenas also tend to have some really nice gradients from the mane down unlike the in game ones which are mostly the same hue throughout (the golden and sandy ones kind of have this, but it isn’t very pronounced and feels separated from the rest of the body rather than a gradual hue shift).

Forgot about that. Don't keep them that often due to the Fact that they are fighting all the Time if you have more than 1 female. Actually I really like them though. Wish they wouldn'tve stylized the Animals at all. I like them as realistic as possible (also only bought Zoo Tycoon 2 after finding out about Radical Remake 🙃)

Also really needed. Wish they would put more Work into the Variants. Also still wish for Timberwolves without those weird white Faces. Also where are all the other Variants? They've selected the probably most colorful Subspecies yet we've only gotten grey and brown Wolves. And when will Frontier think about the Primates? The Chimpanzee has only 1 Variant and it is barely different from the normal one and despite Japanese Macaques existing in many different Shades of brown, they all look the same😑

Bringing this thread back, I would like to see Frontier fix some of the armatures and animations including...

The antelope, especially the bongo, nyala, and springbok. Those first 2 especially are quite poorly done

The wings of certain birds. Those being the peafowl, flamingo, and crane. They all have some quite janky clipping which I think Frontier's animation and model artists are more than capable of fixing.

You mean their rig? the way they walk? Because i think the models are some of the best from the base game.

Nyala, while I don't care for it, is also much too small, since when is it smaller than the Ibex? Or are the ibex ingame just too big?

To be fair the alpine ibex is much larger than all other ibex species, and Nyalas are not that big.

Found these

  • Malayan tapir first and foremost
  • Base game cats + amur leopard
  • Timber wolf and pup (they both just look really, really bad especially compared to the dingo and foxes)
  • African wild dog (please fix their weird paws + too fluffy)
  • Spotted hyena (wrong proportions + more mane)
  • Orangutan (wrong kind of fluffy)
  • Warthog (the mane mostly)
  • Zebra (way too small and stout)
  • Okapi (broken shoulder)
  • Bactrian camel (I recall people said it had the wrong face? Has that been fixed?)
  • Both brown bears (please seriously)
  • Nyala (the walk cycle has always looked really unnatural to me)
  • Black Wildebeest (the fur under their chest and on their snout looks like a solid chunk of model instead of fur + mane overhaul)

Basically if it has a mane or fur, it needs a touch up.
