What animals would you want in a Mountains or Highlands Pack?

Given that the Arid Animal Pack somehow lacks a Hamadryas Baboon, I feel like unless Frontier is actively avoiding adding monkeys, there's a good chance that they were excluded due to a baboon being planned for another pack. This brings to mind a Gelada for the often speculated mountain theme. So, if you were to predict a Mountain Pack or come up with your own roster for one, what animals would be in it?

My personal choices for a scenery pack, which is more likely if it's the next DLC: Golden Takin + Gelada + Andean Bear + Alpaca + California Mountain Kingsnake
My personal choices for an animal pack: those from above + Ethiopian Wolf + Chamois + Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep

As far as the realism of my choices go, I feel like my scenery choices are realistic enough. The Takin and Andean Bear have been requested for a long time, and not only was the Alpaca in Zoo Tycoon 3, it could also use the new spitting mechanics. My animal pack choices are less realistic. The Ethiopian Wolf- although unpopular as far as requests go- is on there mostly because of Zoo Tycoon 2 nostalgia. I feel like Frontier does choose some animals based on their appearance in ZT2. Chamois is my personal preference over Markhor. And lastly, the Bighorn Sheep is a rather iconic North American animal and it makes sense to give NA more rep.

My ideal pack would be a scenerypack since i dont find most other mountain pack relevant animals all that intersting and rather have an animal pack something else

-Hamadryas or gelada
-Alpine marmot
-Wolverine
-Sichuan takin
-Some kind of WE bird (bearded vulture, condor or eagle maybe)

In case of an Animal Pack:

  • Wolverine
  • Golden Takin
  • Himalayan Monal
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Yellow-Rock Footed Wallaby
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Kea (WE)

Honestly it is hard to pick animals in case of scenery, but...
  • Wolverine
  • Golden Takin
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Kea (WE)

Wolverine would be a good choice although personally save it for a Taiga or Tundra pack.

The pretentiousness of the Arid Animal Pack is made worse by the fact that all the animals in it are from almost one continent. In the Mountains/Highlands Animal Pack it should be in animals from several continents and two exhibit animals would be good, one standard and one WE.

Europe:
  • Alpine chamois
  • Western capercaillie

Asia:
  • Markhor
  • Golden snub-nosed monkey
  • Chinese giant salamander (standard exhibit)

Africa:
  • Gelada
  • Ethiopian wolf

South America:
  • Andean bear
  • Andean condor (WE)

I'd go for a full animal pack, as mountains are seriously lacking.

1. Gelada
2. Spectacled bear
3. Markhor
4. Sichuan takin
5. Pallas cat
6. Himalayan monal
7. Wolverine
8. WE Kea

If the next pack were a scenery pack (I imagine it would be), my choices would be:

1. Bar-headed goose
2. Gelada
3. Takin
4. Spectacled bear
Walkthrough exhibit. Let's go with the kea. Although knowing our luck with birds, we'll get something like the Siberian chipmunk instead.
If a standard exhibit were chosen instead of a walkthrough, I would personally go for the African pancake tortoise.

If it’s a scenery pack, I’d go with this lineup:

1. Markhor
2. Wolverine
3. Gelada
4. Spectacled Bear
5. Chinese Giant Salamander (E)

But if it’s an animal pack, which I’m keeping my fingers crossed for, I’d add

6. Alpine Marmot
7. European Bison
8. Domestic Yak

One of the positives of this pack is that I now know that more than two ungulates in a pack is possible. And of all packs which would need more ungulates, a mountains or highlands pack is number one.

I feel like unless Frontier is actively avoiding adding monkeys,
Not sure why you would even entertain the possibility that this isn’t the case at this point. It’s been over 2 years, 9 DLC packs since out last monkey. Like I’m honestly just convinced that someone in the company with a bit of sway is just paralytically phobic of monkeys. I’m not trying to make a joke or make light of people’s phobias (I’ve said what I need to about our new exhibit species), this is pretty much the only thing that actually makes sense to me at this point.

That said, a lot of good that could come from a highlands pack, and I think it’s naturally a better fit for winter so I’d expect it to be an animal pack. Against all odds and everything I just said, I will also put the baboon on this list, because it is now in my eyes the #1 most essential species for the game now that we’ve got both the dromedary and porcupine out of the way.
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Rock hyrax
  • Pallas’s cat
  • Spectacled bear
  • Wolverine
  • Sichuan takin
  • Markhor
I would’ve hesitated to include two caprines, but getting two antelope in the Arid Animal Pack has reassured me somewhat.

Wolverine
Spectacled Bear
Markhor
Hamadryas Baboon- I don't personally need a Baboon at all, but given the support for it and the lack of one in the Arid pack it's a very reasonable inclusion.
Exhibit - not at all sure on this one.

Animal pack additions:
Bighorn Sheep
Alpaca
Pallas Cat

I think this would make a very nice December animal pack.

Highlands Animal Pack:
1. Spectacled Bear
2. Hamadrayas Baboon/Gelada
3. Golden Phesant/Himalayan Monal
4. Sichuan/Golden Takin
5. Markhor
6. Rock Hyrax (Would sub Wolverine cause of popularity)
7. François's Langur
8. (E)?

It would be pretty funny if Frontier made a special stream in winter where they dress as climbers and try to climb a mountain or something haha
For a highlands pack
Main 4
  • Gelada/Hamadryas baboon (Hamadryas live in mountain regions as well, altho being a highlands theme gelada is more fitting, I still very much prefer hamadryas to geladas tho)
  • Bukharan markhor (best goat)
  • Golden takin (yay hoofstock)
  • Pallas cat (muh cat pandering, not a huge fan but I know it's coming)
Additional 3 if animal pack
  • Spectacled bear (while it fits I would prefer if the spectacled bear was the anniversary animal to have another south american animal in the vanilla roster)
  • Rock Hyrax or Alpine marmot
  • Rocky mountain elk or yak
Exhibit
- Titicaca water frog (a large endangered frog from the highest navigable lake in the world, I think it's the best fitting animal for a highlands pack considering no alternative for a walkthrough exhibit) or one of the giant salamanders (idk how they will fit inside the regular exhibit but worth the try).

My priorities for a theme pack would be:
Hamadryas Baboon
Spectacled Bear
Markhor
Sichuan Takin
E. Chinese Giant Salamander

Additional 3 in case of animal pack:
Rock Hyrax
Pallas's Cat
Golden Pheasant

Mostly Asia-centric, but the mountains are currently what Asia's lacking the most.

I think an animal pack would make most sense, and we could get this in winter. My hopes would be:
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Takin
  • Gelada
  • Rock Hyrax
  • Markhor
  • Bighorn Sheep
  • Alpine Marmot
  • Chinese Giant Salamander (E)

Of course having a pheasant or another monkey would be great, but I don't wanna put my expectations too high.

Here's some of the mountain animals I wanted that game to have.
  1. Markhor
  2. Mountain goat
  3. Bighorn sheep
  4. Domestic yak (Were there wild yak in zoos?)

I would love if the highlands DLC were a mix between typical snowy mountains and Arid High Rocks.

1. Wolverine
2. Takin (preferably golden, but I am ok with any of the subspecies)
3. Spectacled Bear
4. Hamadryas Baboon
5. Kea in WE

If it were an animal pack I would also add:
6. Rock Hyrax
7. Himalayan Monal
8. Markhor

  1. Rock Hyrax would be nice. And I always forget about them in my wishlists for some reason.
  2. Japanese Serow
  3. Spectacled Bear (this is what the community wants. I'd rather go for Sloth bear in a different pack personally)
  4. Bighorn Sheep
  5. Mountain Goat (5, 6 and 7 are if its an Animal Pack)
  6. Pallas' Cat
  7. Yak
