What are the current State of the console Version from EDO?

What i'm trying to say is Horizons at launch was really bad, based on people commenting about it. I wasn't here at the time.
So apparently nothing new with EDO being bad at launch (although we might have a winner in EDO, at least until the next DLC) - a lot of people called it, during the Alpha, yours truly included.
I also called the release between the PC launch and the Console launch as a live beta, but well... 🤷‍♂️ let's move on, shall we?
So because Horizons was so bad, Odyssey had to be worse?

I suspect posters will move on when they want to, which doesn't look like any time soon.

History repeating, yes.
EDO launch was bad, like the other payed DLC before it, and lots of the free content updates.
EDO trumps it all for the moment, but the Arx Patch in September 2019 was really bad, then the Carriers launch holds a honorary 3rd place in my book of bad releases.

What's ironic is Elite First Encounters was also a under pressure release, forced by a financially troubled publisher. And was probably what made DBOBE to actually think to publish his own titles (and not only, lately)
And guess what, EDO gets an under pressure, too early release too, when it was really obvious from the Alpha that the game is not ready.

so not relevant to us here in this forum
🙈🙉 hehe what a life hack
History refutes
Yeah of course that's an omnipotent generally valid rule. Because time never passes and things never change. Never
there are now 80 PS4 games that have had a native 4K / 60 FPS enhancement released for PS5.
You're absolutely free to play those games 🤔
Not doing so for Elite/Odyssey is the wrong decision, the PS4 version is getting creaky and old. Adding a broken Odyssey on top of it will not improve the situation.
You absolutely seem like a business expert. Who btw knows everything better than the managers that fdevs employ. I wonder why they didn't contact you yet and begged you to save them from going under 😱
I'm not sure this is the best precedent if you're trying to calm nerves.
I really don't care about nerves that already broke a long time ago ✌

Keep it civil, please.

I appreciate that you weren't around when the previous releases were so are only going from other posters.
I was and always have been console, so although not in the game at day 1, I did keep reasonably close to the various discussions in the early days.
If consoles had been proposed day 1, I would have probably been in the kick starter but my PC wasn't up to much so I watched from the sidelines.
To put into context our concern about the dates.

Dec 2014 - Elite Dangerous PC release
Jun 2014 - Elite Dangerous XBox release (announced at E3 as part of GPP)
May 2015 - Elite Dangerous MAC release
Dec 2015 - Elite Dangerous PC Horizons Seasons release (Cobra MkIV for PC early orders Dec 2015 - Mar 2016)
Jun 2016 - Elite Dangerous XBox Horizons Seasons release (Cobra MkIV for XBox pre-orders)

Jun 2017 - Elite Dangerous PS4 (Standalone with / without Horizons) - (No Cobra MkIV for pre-orders)

Feb 2018 - Elite Dangerous - Beyond 3.0 released simultaneously to PC, XBox and PS4 (not MAC)
Apr 2018 - Frontier drops support for MAC - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/important-mac-announcement.424243/
...Firstly, we want to reassure you that this decision did not come lightly and is something that we have been investigating for some time.....

Jun 2018 - Elite Dangerous - Beyond 3.1 released simultaneously to PC, XBox and PS4
Aug 2018 - Elite Dangerous - Beyond 3.2 released simultaneously to PC, XBox and PS4
Dec 2018 - Elite Dangerous - Beyond 3.3 released simultaneously to PC, XBox and PS4

Jun 2020 - Elite Dangerous Fleet Carriers released simultaneously to PC, XBox and PS4

Aug 2020 - Elite Dangerous Odyssey announced - simultaneous release to PC, XBox and PS4 - Early 2021
Jan 2021 - Elite Dangerous Odyssey delayed to Late Spring 2021 for PC / Autumn for Consoles
30th June 2021 - our aim was to focus on the initial set of updates and then turn our attention back onto console. There’s no doubt that the additional development work on these updates and community requests pose a challenge on our previous plans and timelines. We are actively investigating, reviewing, and remeasuring the further roadmap but these things will take a little time.

So nothing on consoles for over a year and the update given last Wednesday saying Frontier are currently reviewing when they will be able to give a revised timeline. Given what happened to MAC and the current reported state of the PC release, hence the concern.

I also guess they might have just delayed the console launch because Sony and Microsoft charge for each update.

I am not the one to molest people by trying pitifully to 'prove' that their wishful thinking is a logical consequence of history or 'the only reasonable way' 😘

No idea what you're on about. Read the post above yours from @Snowymonk - I'll leave it at that.

I got fed up of delays for Odysseus release on PS4. I got fed up of PS5 shortages. So, I decided to buy a gaming laptop and I moved to oddysey already and dont regret. i still have my PS4 commander with fleet carrier and loads of credits. I am not happy to start all the gring from zero but at least i am suing the carrier to transport my new commander accross teh galaxy.
If odyssey is released on PS5 (and i manage to source one) I will return, if it released only on PS4 I wouldn't as the graphics on pc are so much better.

The issue you'll have is the resolution and locked graphics settings on the PS5. As Frontier don't plan to release a native PS5 version of Odyssey, it will run in backwards compatibility mode, meaning that resolution is artificially locked to 1080p, and display/texture settings are locked to PS4 Pro presets.

but the fact is even combined console numbers are tiny compared to PC
Xbox now has about the same monthtly player numbers as Steam. We may be in the minority in this game but that has more to do with gaming cultures. Console players tend to focus on fast paced fps games like COD, GTA, borderlands etc and PC is focused on more esoteric games like Total War, Homeworld etc. If fdev could really flesh out on foot gameplay I believe the console numbers would go up. Also selling it as a standalone game would go a long way too.
there is plenty of rage going on in the pc community at the moment
there is also the fact that they've said now no more patches as they are concentrating on the console versions
so it is happening, and there's possible plans for a beta on consoles so that's a bit better than what pc got
Yeah theres plenty out there blaming us for the downfall of the game.
Lack of a thriving community on console is 100% due to the lack of engagement and focus on consoles, cross play, current-gen etc.

So to say there's a small playerbase - why is that? Frontier need to commit, or not. There shouldn't be a halfway. Like the other poster said, it's all half baked and it's a vicious circle/self fulfilling prophecy.
I agree. When I meet new players almost the universal thing they say is they had never heard of this game before and couldn't understand why it's not more popular.

And now we get an delay, without any further information about the consoles. I mean it’s clever written, and I am happy for our pc Cmdrs. But in my case, with 2.500 hrs spent in elite, it’s time to leave it. And perhaps come back in the next year on ps5. I respect their decision, but it’s a totally kick in the belly for many of us on the consoles. Because elite will work in future, like destiny without the last dlc, we have an half game. The ne stuff and content, especially Thargoids on foot stuff will only work on EDO.

Since Odyssey is officially delayed/cancelled, its clear now,, After 3 years of Elite on PS4 I'm quitting Elite. Going to put more time into playing Warframe instead. So long my forum friends! :) This will be my final post. -ArrowRiver o7 out

Having devoted the best part of four years to Elite Dangerous, attaining triple Elite status and until recently, a top 1000 player ranking on Inara, it’s clear that Frontier don’t give a damn about it’s console community.

Taking into account the problems Covid may have presented to make it console ready, I was prepared to wait until late 2021 for the Odyssey update but David Braben’s latest post has dampened my enthusiasm to remain loyal to this game. Plenty of other games out there to play, so I’m hanging up my flight suit with immediate effect.

My fleet carrier is currently parked in the system of wonders (Skaude AA-A H294). Maintenance costs are covered for the next 19 years, so if anyone out that way needs fuel or repairs, the carrier is open to all.
