Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I decided my main is rich enough, so I loaded up my little alt. I haven't played her much, but she has a Python so I dragged it over to the CG. I managed 4 runs so far. Might do more if I have time and the CG doesn't end.

Anyway, she made herself nearly 400 million, which for her is a huge amount.

She's been a very lucky toon. She got all those free ships from the Winking Cat, plus a bunch of credits. She has all G3 Odyssey gear, all of which she just found for sale at various Pioneer shops. And now this CG.

It's been fun, though.

Are the servers really slow for you guys too? Everything is taking an age to load, and the jump sequence is just sitting there for a long time, sometimes ending with an error.
It was very jerky for me especially in the system I was collecting Tritium from, not as bad but worse than normal in the CG system, I blame the uncountable numbers of Fleet Carriers present as It can't be players as I know no one else was in that Private Group at the time.

Yeah, wasn't hoping it's matching orca, it's still much bigger. I'll just get one at some point and try. For combat compatibilities no doubt ofc, and heard somewhere about weapon convergence too. One thing i'm glad to hear that it handles better than anaconda. Back when i've done my Fed rank, i was doing that especially for getting the ship, but somehow got distracted, done the rank and never got the ship. )

So far i'm just getting into FDL if i feel like shooting at things. 1 huge long range TV beam, which can kill anything alone if enough time given, and for medium ones i just bought those carrier weapon packages, wasted 2k tons and 2b credits, but now i'm able to equip 4x normal cannons (those real cannons, not multis) anytime and see how it looks like with em, even if not engineered, just to get a feeling. It looked nice actually, like that old times frigate's volley. Not really much combat xp, and most of it went from shooting pirate's paper planes. Yet to see what'll be if i get 4x torpedoes. P
If you want to play in with a big ship in combat, the Corvette is by far the most fun and satisfying of the big 3. I'll probably spend more time with the FDL again later. I've not found a weapons combination that really grabs me yet, and I need more time to get the hang of it. The Corvette is easy to get into - Anaconda only a bit more agile with better weapon positioning for gimballed weapons. Corvette is bad for fixed weapon convergence, though.

Nop, not for me, looks usual, except for that i've jumped mb half an hour ago or so. I does throw black adders if jumping to the CG system sometimes though, but it was doing it before as well. If dl'n update, it should be obvious on your task manager network usage, it's still a significant amount of data. But i got it so bad with my ISP here that i kind of always blame ISP, too low chance that something else is wrong. P
What I meant was that all the gaming servers around the world might be getting the new update, using bandwidth and causing issues. All they would need to do is reboot them once it goes live, I had 2 dropped connections last night really jerky playing and supercruise would take 20 to 45 seconds to go in or out.

That i don't know, mb yeah, but we don't know if those servers are getting the update rn + not sure they're really that worldwide, could be those local connections causing issues as well. My take is to always blame that last step to my place that is overloaded/behaving/just out of order currently and idk when back, but that's my take, we've just got it bad over here. P

But, i've got another black adder now close to CG, so yeah, no way that servers are perfect, surely they behave too, mb just i'm underrating that.

I know what you mean, just a guess anyway. I'm right in the middle of silicone valley, we normally don't get issue's with our internet unless a nasty thunder storm or earthquake rolls through.

Some of the other commanders I was flying with were making 275 Mil profit.
That sounds legit. The key is to buy cheap and fly without a shield generator.

They were as bit flaky yesterday - happily, they're pretty punchy today.

I found a platinum notspot today. I used at least 50 prospector limpets and not one 'roid had any platinum, not even 1%. Which seemed odd.

So, I'm now in my go-to spot and should soon be finished. I normally manage to eke out ~300m for my efforts and usually buy about 80m worth of tritium.

With the current CG though, I'm not sure how that will pan out.

The question the becomes "what shall I do now?"

Hmm

I noticed it a few times over the last few days. I've also had this odd thing where when I start super cruise to leave a planet I have to fudge the nose of the ship all around the target area before it will take. Sometimes I have to aim an inch or two in screen distance below it.

I also had a couple instances where when I went to a menu at a station it would take a second or two to load.

It's only happened from time to time the last few days.

Normally, all my screens are instant. I hit the button, the screen is there loaded and ready to go.

For pure profitability, yes. I like having that section of hands-free flight at take off and landing to plot my route, roll a cigarette, sip tea etc.
Not exactly my reasoning - see the various threads about murderous docking computers. Especially on take off with a loaded imperial driftship (a.k.a. Cutter), the ADC loves to ram the ship's nose against the station wall and keep it there.

This. I've had that happen a few times in cargo trim. In mining trim, my cutter doesn't have the slot for the docking computer. It normally works out better except when they put my dock at the very front of the station where I can't see it as I come in. Then, almost always, I wind up getting a loitering fee while looking for my dock space.

I really dislike flying a cutter so my cargo hauler of choice is the recklessly underequipped T9 which the DC very rarely dings on the edge of the slot. I did nearly lose a full cargo of tritium yesterday in an auto-launch incident but the root cause was an accidental nudge of the throttle when I went into the map and leaned over to use my keyboard. PEBKAC. System working as intended.

All the DC horror stories seem to involve cutters. Those nacelles might be good for mining but Lakon's box designs seem to be easier for the DC to manage.

ADC on the Cutter cannot seem to reliably dock on a Fleet Carrier either. Said Imperial barge kind of dangles uselessly above the landing pad.
I think it's time I got in touch with Gutamaya and suggest they threaten their docking computer programming slaves with servitude in a salt mine to motivate them to do better.

In case you don't already know, the compass in your ship will point to your pad once you enter the station. The compass is that little circle thing next to the radar. The dot is solid if your target is in front of you, and hollow if behind you. I often land my bigger ships using just the compass, because I can't see downwards :)

The servers are better for me today. Still some delay, but not too terrible.

I wanted to make at least 1 more Tritium run on my alt, but when I logged off last night the Tritium supply at the station where I was docked was all gone. Well, there were 18 tons. Checking EDDB this morning, most of the stations are bought out, or close to it.

However when I logged in there were 54 tons, so it recovered a bit overnight. There are several outposts (so only M pads) in the system, so I went to each one and found a bit of Tritium at each. 50 here. 70 there. Etc. I managed to fill the Python's hold of 252 tons, and did one more run.

My alt now has 546 million in cash, which should serve her well.

I'm glad I didn't sell too much of the Tritium off my carrier, because it'll be a few days at least before supplies recover.

All in all it was a very lucrative CG!

To expand on that excellent advice, the nearer the dot is to the centre the more in line with it your ship is so when landing vertically on the pad the dot should be on the bottom edge of the compass.

Keep an eye on the compass as you go through the slot and you will see the dot jump as it changes from pointing at the station to pointing at the pad.

The pads inside the stations are in a standard layout so if you enter the slot in the same orientation each time the pad will be the same direction, you can find plans showing which number pads are where.
