Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Is Dav’s still a viable thing or is it just easy for the lower level mats? Haven’t done it for ages - I think I was after Chemical Manipulators and they took so long to turn up with RNG that I went searching for G5 mats to trade instead.

I‘m currently in a BGS war trying to push my chosen faction into the controlling faction and steal the Coriolis station. Unfortunately it all kicked off at a time when I can’t get in game much - add to that what was a very quiet system seems to be a very busy system now, I guess a lot of Cmdrs search for war states and are willing to travel to get their kicks. I think I’m destined to lose.:(
Long time no see!

Yes, Dav's is viable still. CM's are still there albeit a bit uncommon. The only thing is that they moved the entire base away from the mountain - oh, and it's in perpetual darkness now :(

Whaaat?! Dav’s and the mountain go hand in hand. I’d never have found it in the first place without the mountain! I’m assuming that’s an Odyssey thing. I’m going to have to go and have a look now, I’m curious if the mountain has gone due to Odyssey remapping or if the base just moved.

Real life nastiness made relaxing Elite time (and even pursuing the forums pretty much) impossible for a while, hopefully we’re through that now. There‘s nothing worse than real life spoiling your game time (first world problems eh?!)

I don't do much logging myself
I did, for 23 years, that's my truck getting loaded. 96 Peterbilt, it was my second truck, I traded in a 74 359 for it.

Think it's and Oddy thing - not been in Horizons since it came along.

Aaaaanyway! Welcome back :)

I did it about a month ago and it was mostly grade 3 and 4 stuff. Absolutely zero grade 5 stuff fell for me.
If I remember correctly it was always G3 and G4 stuff, but back when I started playing (before Mat Traders and when we had weird theories about how best to find G5 USS, like flying perpendicular to the main star at 50% throttle and your contacts panel open*) it was an easy source of ‘stuff.’

*That was a long time ago and may not be entirely correct….but thankfully it doesn’t matter anymore. I wonder how many movies I got through whilst doing that - no wonder I’m not a wealthy man, my time could/should have been better spent:)

Yes, it's always been like that, no G5 stuff. It's really only useful for filling up those lower grade mats. But back in the day it was a godsend because there was no other way to get a lot of that stuff (that wasn't even slower). There was no material trader either.

A quick DSS does it now, no need to use coordinates. But yes, it did move in Odyssey which makes all the old guides that use coordinates wrong. I see a fair number of posts about that. :p
I deleted Edison from my system some time back, it was a slightly sad moment as Edison got me safely (and quickly) to so many spots that I’d otherwise have spent ages boosting around trying to get a visual on
* wanders off muttering about change and the youth of today whilst looking for a tin of spam for lunch *

I still use it on occasion to mark a spot I want to return to while doing Exobiology (like if I find a plant but can't scan it yet because I'm in the middle of scanning some other type).

It still works quite well, but only while in the SRV or ship. It does not understand being on foot. And it sometimes crashes when you leave the planet.

But it can quickly save my current location in 3 quick slots, so I still find it useful.

I'm not a fan of Dav's hope - not much of a high enough grade to make it worth the time the times I have tried since May last year. If I want Chemical Manipulators, I'll go to a few systems in outbreak looking for the high grade signal sources to try and get Pharmaceutical Isolators to trade. If that's not working, a high population (billion+) Imperial system in None or Election state and you get a lot of Imperial Shielding at the high grade signals to trade.
EDIT: Of course this still relies on relogging after each collection at the signal source until its time runs out.

I ran across this on a Discord server recently...

Yes, possibly even better than it was in some ways at least in Odyssey.

The humps and bumps have gone as well which means the materials stay within reach but the driving is even more dull.

I was more upset by it now being in permanent darkness in part because I was sure it used to experience both light and dark before Odyssey.

While there where no G5 materials I thought the variety of grades and materials was better than when I last spent time there in Horizons.

It certainly used to be in full light at certain times, I clearly remember meeting my first Cmdr there (before I realised it was pointless being there in Open and contending for materials) and marvelling at their triple Elite decal. I'll have to give it a go in Odyssey, my biggest bugbear with SRV driving is getting stuck on the tiniest bit of debris/landscape and having to log out to plain old Non-Horizons (which probably shows how long its been since I've done it!) - I'm quite happy with flat surfaces and boring SRV driving 😇

Are the difficulty of on-foort CZs inaccurate? The last couple of LOW ones I've entered seemwd overly hectic. It's been like being thrown in the deep end with a streak of tigers from two groups trying to gain dominance.

I muddled through to victory in both but man... was it fraught. Good job I'd learnt strafing and ducking techniques from my old Quake days. As it was, I had two redeploys to get through.

Perhaps I chose the wrong ones.

I'm having fun doing the exploration thing. This planet had some nice flora.

These things always seem slightly obscene to me. :)

I haven't heard anyone say they are. I assume you went in via Frontline Solutions? Cuz as far as I know there's no other way to tell what they are.

The system map does not say. (You cannot rely on "Threat Level").
