Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

With Cocky Joe on his last legs, I figured I'd go get my PP tasks out of the way.

For some weird reason, I have 10/5 this week. Which suits me, because 4 of them were things I really did not want to do, like shoot rival power ships in a rescue ship system. Where I am allied to everyone and would rather not annoy them.

Did at least manage to do the hacking task. Which was stupid and game-y, because it needs me to hack 8 holoscreens, in a system with only 2 stations, each of which has only 1 screen hackable. And I think the latter point is because FDev have changed it so the instance always loads with 1 screen already hacked by an opposing power, because doing this in reinforcement systems was not viable last week. It is progress, I am happy.

Anyway, the solution was just keep relogging at the same station. Annoying but... sure, done, power credits earned, tyvm, I'll take it until the algorithm is improved to only ask for systems with at least 8 stations.

Also look at all the windows/skylights around the letterbox! Good grief. Somehow this game is super bad at imparting the scale of things.

Meanwhile, I have logged my AX bomber on the outskirts of Cocky Joe's cloud and set an alarm for 6:30am...

There is a strong chance I will not be up in time. But imma try.

I spent some time today working on my Cobra MKV, getting it set up the way I want it. I stuck the double-engineered FSD from the CG in there, so that gave me a bit more jump range. I can verify that it is possible to add Mass Manager to these new drives.

I have very rapidly become used to the SCO, now that I have it on a ship that can actually handle it. Boosting off planets is hilariously fast. You can escape the planet in about 3 seconds. I will definitely be doing that most of the time when I have to take off from a planet :)

Overall the new Cobra is really great. It handles like a dream. It just feels good to fly.

I will be using it for Exo of course, and Odyssey missions. I probably won't do much combat in it -- if I actually want combat I have tougher ships in my fleet -- but then again I don't do much combat in general.

Here's my build so far. It could jump farther but I don't want to compromise some things. :)

Oh, thanks Codger, thank you very much. No, really, thanks. Sheesh.

Now I have to get the credit card out so I can purchase even more ARX.

See what you've done?

:D

And now I'll need to address the elephant in the fleet carrier regarding a ship to offboard to station storage. Sad times.

Hanging around, watching small explosions go off. Somewhere in the background is apparently an NPC AX pilot. Hopefully they got clear. Now and then a small thargoid vessel flees the mothership, but doesn't bother me.

I enjoyed the eerie music that kicked in about now. Not something I am aware of Elite doing very often 😹

Oh well. Cool guys don't look at explosions anyway.

Nice pics!

Been there, too. A little closer, it seems. Will post a video once all the goop has been removed from the camera drone...

...which is why it's taken a little longer to publish a video ofc ;)

How do non-CG doers get these? I've heard they're available to all.
With great problems:(

They are available via (some) human tech brokers Solo Orbiter in Altair has all of them in stock.

The problem is the price,

From what I heard from @MattG , the class 5 version requires 15 Datamined Wake Exceptions, 24 Tellurium, 12 Electrotechnical arrays, 14 Chemical processors, 7 Propulsion elements, 1 Titan Drive Component. The lower and higher classes require less and more of the materials, the one TDC remains the same.

Propulsion Elements are a Thargoid mat obtainable killed thargoid scouts

Titan Drive component are a very rare commodity, no one seems to be selling them and everyone wants them

Great pics. I considered going to the event, but it was the middle of the night for me and I'm old. I slept through it. :p

Damn!...I've not participated in the recent Thargoid CG, in fact I haven't shot at a Thargoid since the first year the game was released! :D
I've got plenty of the materials you mentioned, but no Titan Drives ....still, what's a half dozen more lightyears between friends!...I don't think it will impact my game much though, so it's not really a problem.

Jack :)

Yes. It's always nice to have the "best" but the difference is fairly small. Even a non-CG SCO drive is quite a bit better than the old drives, and you can just buy it.

My own experience with the SCO drives is that they work amazingly well on the new ships (or at least on the Cobra MKV -- I haven't tried the other new ships yet), but they don't work that well on older ships (terrible on my DBX).

It's all good. Progress is progress, and the game continues to evolve.

no Titan Drives
From what I understand you can get the Titan Drive parts by searching any of the dead Titan areas. I have not tried.

They pleased the vocal complainers by technically making them available with unobttainium for the deep space explorers.

I agree that they work way better on the new ships, but I don't feel that the old ships are unflyable with SCO active.
But I usually tend to use the SCO in bursts. I activate it, suggest small directional inputs to keep the ship vaguely on target and the second the "temperature critical" warning comes, I deactivate SCO again. Wait for the cooldown , in ships with a suboptimal heat management I'll wait for the heat to go down to a manageable value, and repeat the process.

Same, and/or I try and catch it when when the velocity has reached about a eighth of the distance (ie you theoretically have 8 seconds of think time) - any more aggressive than that and my "loop of shame" odds become unfavourable. Of course when you do drop out you lose speed fast enough you have way more than 8 seconds before you get close to the indicated 6 seconds and Loop Doom. And of course if it's 500,000ls rather than 100,000ls you have more headroom and I should probably be a brave boy and use heatsinks for those.

BUT the penalty is it hoovers almost a whole aux tank of fuel before it boosts, so every time you use two bursts rather than one, you are burning a whole tank of fuel for no thrust.

They work perfectly on older ships as Jump drives and for normal supercruise the issues are when you use the Overcharge capability which can cause unstable flight extreme heat buildup and uses enormous amounts of fuel.

The severity of the issues varies from ship to ship less agile ships tending to be more stable and throttling back can slow fuel use and heat buildup somewhat. The real trick is to boost till you get heat warnings disengage the overcharge and “coast” until your speed drops then boost again,

It's all good. Progress is progress, and the game continues to evolve.

I think they are cargo and corrosive so fast travel or a corrosion resistant rack will be required, if they are cargo someone will be selling them from a carrier somewhere I expect.
