Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It does?

Ok, so today I learned that planets rotate in the sysmap.

In my defense I only have only played the game for a few thousand hours.
Yes, me too - I only have an approximate time played of 36W 9H. Ahem.

Aaaanyway :D

Some gratuitous pics of said planet:

Funny thing was, when I was mapping it, it wasn't rotating at all.

Hi :)

Y'know...

Sometimes, you can look at something for ages but not really see it.

This is the first time - I know, I know - that I've ever noticed a planet rotating in the sysmap...
Yep, I've got to agree on this, there's so much detail in this game that you either forget about it or just don't notice, usually you can be so focussed on a specific activity that these hundreds of other finer details just melt into the background....🤔...a touch of 'Familiarity breeds contempt' sometimes I think.
I notice planet rotation more if I'm obviously on the planet, depending on the planets rotation period, and sunrises and sunsets can be quite spectacular sometimes too, as you probably know.

Well, I ain't come across any Tritium hotspots at the moment so I'm just going to go down to a gas giant that's in the system I'm in currently, ice ringed but there's some low temp diamonds, void opal, granderite and alexandrite hot spots, so I'll go and see if there's any Tritium down there as well. If I get bored with the Tritium I can alwas grab a few tons of the other stuff!....I'm sure I've got a touch of Ferengi in my blood (Or Teladi, featured in another game ;))
I'm just a smidge outside the bubble, system...Col 359 sector VE-Q D5-32.

Greetings Commanders,
We have added an additional tier to the active Community Goals to allow for more Commanders to earn the rewards.

I might also mine a few more tons of Platinum while I'm out here as well then! :D

Jack :)

It's a bit disconcerting though, I personally still feel this whole feature ragged and full of holes for want of a better description.
Yes, this is my perception as well, just from reading the many, many posts about it (here and elsewhere). I'm glad I did not get involved, and I feel a bit sorry for those who put in huge amounts of time and effort.

Maybe it will be fixed at some point, although I'm not really sure what "fixed" would even mean at this point...there's so many things that are cockeyed.

I suppose I'm rather disappointed in the whole thing. I'm not sure it makes the game better, rather the opposite.

Oh well. Onward.

Re: noticing things in game... I never cease to be amazed by the detail that derives from procgen; mostly the varied texture of the dirt when I'm walking on a moon. Amazing!

Re: colonisation... I have a lot of time to think about it when I'm tracking down elusive plants, and mostly what I've been thinking is that I play ED to fly a spaceship, not to be a 'system architect' or a fleet carrier manager. Flying spaceships is still pretty damned cool!

Hi :)

Y'know...

Sometimes, you can look at something for ages but not really see it.

Again, so true...In this case I'm on a small planet looking for some Tellurium!....I was mining for Tritium on that gas giant in this system, got bored after a couple of hours, scanned the whole system (not surface scanned) and went down to this planet which shows 1.4% Tellurium, and its got 3 geological markers.
So, I'm on the surface amongst vents, fumaroles and geysers, absolutely loads of piceous cobbles, clusters and fragments, but as yet NO needle crystals whatever, needles are where I'm probably / expecting going to find Tellurium. Where are they! 😣...:D

I did manage earlier (last night) to mine a few tons of LTD's and around 20t of Tritium....It's still (it seems) a slow job mining Tritium, though I noticed that using the displacement missiles for those sub deposits positions if you hit it right (holding down the joystick trigger until the second, third, fourth etc. blue indicator lines up with the sliding indicator and let go the button) you get 3 chunks expelled from the asteroid. I'm pretty sure doing the same thing with platinum sub deposits you only get 2 maximum?
So Tritium mining (as far as sub deposits go) might have had a buff?
Me not having mined Tritium for so long though perhaps it's been like this for some time.

Logged out the game for now as stuff needs to be done in my garden, and the pond filtration system needs a good cleanout. I left the ship on the planet amongst the geo positions, so hopefully when I boot up the game again those volcanoes, vents and stuff will be re-set and maybe some needle crystals will appear 🙏

If not I'll be jumping my carrier again to one of my favourite platinum spots to top up my GG contributions! :)
I was a bit tired last night though, so maybe I should also try some more Tritium mining again, perhaps just to be doubly sure.

I think I remember a few years ago Bernd Lehahn (Egosoft the X series) saying about their games in particular, that games can be (should be?) Complex but not Complicated.
I'm personally finding Colonisation overly complicated. Having posted on the Egosoft forums for many years and generally having a high regard for mostly all those games and Bernd Lehahn I think his description here is a good one.

Jack :)

I'm just doing a little surface mining in Kappa Reticuli. I like to wear my shades for extra sun protection.

I may haphazardly refit the Krait with cheap laser mining equipment to grab a few tons of platinum if anyone has specific tips to find it. I still have some bounty missions to complete after this. I found a couple of level 7s so I suspect there will be a little hull damage and stupid wild goose chases to other systems involved.
