Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi :)

well... things seem to be hotting up around here 😅

This is interesting!...I get this bright effect usually sometimes when I go to leave or docked at a station. It's mainly random though I think, and it doesn't happen very often, but it can happen in other parts of the game as well.
I wonder what causes it?

(Just for reference... My GPU is a Radeon RX 7700XT 12 GB).

Hi All :)

Nothing much to report, I'm building a planet surface port (large landing pad)* in Hip 90024, so I'll be hauling stuff for the next several days, (Or until I get stressed out with haulin' :D).
Finally named the Coriolis station in that system (Wild Deer Corporation Headquarters)...At the moment it's called 'Great Stop' (game generated)...so I think sometime next week it will change over to the custom one I chose. (Least I hope so!).
Gradually moving my stuff from a station I've used for the best part of 8 years!, selling off some ships and modules periodically as I move out.. This named station above will be my main 'Base' from now on and I will be concentrating any future builds there.
*(Planetary construction site Chawla Terminus which I'll name change to a custom one once it's built)).

Ah!...btw just a question...does anybody know the max number of Modules one can store at a single station?

Jack :)
I don’t think I have heard mention of a local storage limit for modules, so it might be as high as all 600.

There is of course a limit of 40 ships in storage at any one station.

I have a 6750XT - are only AMD users blessed with these occasional “thermonuclear bloom” effects? 🤓

*it happened just after I’d booked for a GCZ, then rebooked for the other side - but GPU effects like this would seem unrelated to this sort of in-game action?

Are they still asleep?

Where's Apone?

"All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed?

Another glorious day in the Corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I love the Corps!"

I swear those are the same three from earlier - but looking more preserved than smelted by the EMP-pulse i experienced :D

I didn't realise that ground gear was randomly spawned at Pioneer every Thursday so I decided to head out to the western most edge of the bubble and just check stations along the way. I currently have unmodified grade 3 Dominator and Artemis suits. I also didn't realise that higher grade had better stats regardless of modification since I felt like that was just unlocking engineering levels. Nice. Unfortunately, I've only found small upgrades for the plasma weapons I use (with mods) but I did find a couple of grade 3's for those I don't. Maybe they'll come in handy later.

There'll be a bunch of stuff I'll probably just dump at Bakewell for newbies looking for an extra edge.

Oh yeah, definitely the same guys. They seemed to be there all Saturday. Maybe they were just a bit rough from overdoing it on Friday night. 😩

And I wasn't even aware of the hellish graphics bug. I was actually a little confused thinking you did it in Photoshop or something.

I'm not really sure, I haven't seen any other posts or articles mentioning this specifically.......as I said earlier it's pretty random and literally within a split second the effect is gone...weird.
My son's computer (I built it for him) has exactly the same hardware in it as the one I'm using now (Just for reference...ASUS Rog Strix B650E-F M/b, AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D CPU and 32Gb of Corsair RAM.)... Except for the GPU...Snap! :D...The one I fitted in his was an MSI Radeon Trio RX 6750 XT 12Gb!

Trouble is, he lives 70 odd miles away so I can't check to see if the same thing is happening on his. (I've installed Elite Odyssey on his computer for me (and my grandsons) to play when I'm down there). I'm not sure whether I've seen this type of glitch with the Graphics on his computer when I've played the game, but that was some time ago now.
It could be something to do with one of the recent updates maybe?...🤷‍♂️

I've got another (Intel based) computer with a Nvidia RTX 4060Ti 8Gb GPU, it's got Elite installed so I might boot it up next week and see if that glitch shows up at all.;)

If i recall correctly, these visual anomalies have been going on for some time, with quite a few of these “psychedelic” images posted here since Odyssey launched - yes, the glitch doesn’t seem to affect gameplay in any way, only happens very occasionally and disappears within a few seconds. (Tbh, one has to be quite quick with the camera to catch an image or two!)

It seems that “bloom” (glowing areas in the rendered image) is overruning/blowing out completely, with some spectacular results - tbh i’m not sure if we really want this fixed, as it’s more of an intriguing surprise than actual gameplay issue? :)

…will be interesting to see if it also affects Nvidia hardware - if not, it would seem to be related to AMD driver software?

Happy testing - do it for science! 🤓

I have no recollection of seeing these blooms, and no idea how out of date or not my drivers are.

Yeah, I'll no doubt have another look in there and probably leave a message if I drop any G2 stuff at Bakewell.

This happens to me as well every now and then; Radeon RX 6800.
I think it's a game glitch.

I decided to do a Clear Save on my alt again.

I've been thinking about doing it for a while. My alt had 5 ships and about 500 million credits, and a few good memories. But I want to re-experience being a broke newbie again :)

I was pleased to discover that my on-foot skills are still intact, even though I haven't done a ground mission in ages. I had no problem at all with the training scenario, in fact I found it very easy and fun. They give you a decent loadout in that mission, and the NPCs never had a chance. Here's the final shot of the empty landing pad before I got picked up and taken to Chamberlin's Rest:

Once I got there I headed to the Inter Astra vendor to get my starting ship.

They give you this gigantic screen full of choices now. There's one free Sidewinder, and a huge list of Pre-Built ships for ARX. My Alt has a few ARX, but I have no interest in jump-starting. Still, it was interesting to see what the newcomers see nowadays.

I can easily see how this contributed to the surge in Elite's revenue stream this year.

The ship training mission was a blast from the past for me. It was easy, of course, but it was fun to do it again. I was annoyed because they don't let you change your PIPs, hehe.

But I got my shiny new pilot's license (which is spelled wrong in the game haha).

I spent what little cash they gave me upgrading the FSD on the Sidewinder. I'll go from there.

I don't have enough left for a Maverick suit, so I'm going to do ship-based stuff for a while.

I checked out the mission boards, both on-foot and in-ship, and wow -- the pay is sooo bad. Most missions pay around 35k or so and are hardly worth the effort. Having no reputation really does affect things!

Anyway, I'm all set for new adventures on my Alt. My main is still goofing off out in the black on his huge carrier with billions of credits. :p

"Spelled wrong," you say? It's accurate for 21st Century England. However for all the time 20th and 21st Century citizens spent squabbling over spelling, it turns out that C21 America took the long-standing spelling and it was England* that drifted.

* Yes England, not "the UK" or any "Britain" variant, although even the definition of "England" changes pretty radically during the history of written English when you look at it here in 3311.

Well apparently you can't do this. The item just disappears after sale. I've been carrying around a load clutter for nothing.

I also got the Mandalay's shields reinforced earlier, since yesterday I somehow got caught up in a Coriolis arm and died a slow death. Goodbye £15m in cart data and exploration rank. ;_;

It is nice starting fresh with the knowledge you've gained previously.
I don't know what the issue is. In the UK "licence" is the noun and "license" is the verb.
We also have a special category called 'loicences' which are basically required to do anything which doesn't require a licence.

Haha, well for me it's always been license. Bloody Americans, eh? :)

Anyway.

Wow, has the game ever changed!

In about 4 hours I've gone from a creaking tin can Sidewinder to a fully A-rated Cobra MKV, with about 25 million credits left over.

No engineering yet, obviously. But I did get an invite from Farseer.

Back when I started playing in, er, 2016, there was no engineering. And it took me months to get into a Python, playing every day. It's amazing how much the game has been streamlined since then :)

Now I'm off to look for some grade 3 suits, cuz I wanna do some Odyssey stuffs. Clearly money won't be an issue.
