Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Haven't tried it myself, but fumbling around in Coriolis - it looks like the Keelback doesn't take too well to shields. and will always be slower than a Viper, but boy can you load her up with hull reinforcements. Stuff her with Guardian hull reinforcements, and you can get something like 3,500 hull points for corrosive. Add a couple of AX MCs and small Guardian whatever (probably shards, unless you want to o/c the PP), and it'll hurt.
That's REALLY interesting; I love stomping bugs, but have always used my trusty Krait for it. I'd never considered looking at an upgraded Keelback...but yeah; now that I look at it, it has SOLID upgradable structure! Not what I'd consider a powerful AX platform but decent AX protection and it a player likes a challenge...whoo; that could work!
I'm still gonna stick with my Krait, though. ;)

I've been in kind of a funk, after spending about 4 months exploring outside the bubble I haven't really been able to get back into the swing of things and haven't been playing much. Nothing sounds very fun and nothing has been that much fun even though I couldn't wait to get back and so something besides exploration. I did a little Thargoid Scout hunting but I couldn't really get into it, I took part in that CG bringing in the goods for the big party but I couldn't really get a good trade route going and only delivered a few thousand tons toward the goal. I've been doing passenger missions today, figured I'd help out some Holiday travelers but pretty soon I was flying around a Beluga full of wanted criminals because the missions paid more and stacked. I like to think they were on their way to some sort of Die Hard style Christmas heist.

The missus is out with her band-mates, so that leaves me free for some leisurely ED action.

My Colonia bound explorer made it to Khun, Soontill Relics at the ready, and unlocked Elcira Martuuk. Dropped off my paltry bubble related exploration data to boost rep, did some very basic upgrading on my iCourier FSD, Thrusters and Shields, and thense to the local High Res for 1 McR in bounties to cash in at Long Sight Base to enhance my rep.

Blasting away from Long Sight Base:

Now I need to make a proper effort to gather the roght mats so I can build a new Exploration Keelback and head off for Colonia.

Merry Christmas y'all!

V. Nice. The Corvette is a beast in combat. May be that the two huge beams have made the difference as it does seem the enemy faceplants quicker now. Plus, fitting a limpet controller is a nice little boon. I could stay in this RES until my synth reloads deplete all mats :D
I have been doing something similar except the only limits are how long I can stay sat still and synthesis of limpets, I am running a build with all Focused Pulse lasers doesn’t seem as fast against the shields but gets a lot of the time back against the hull.

Merry Christmas.

I'm preferring the Corvette o'er the 'Conda now for sure. What I'd really like is a completely white paint job so it could resemble a Star Destroyer. I mean...

...it's a total schalong of a machine:

Look at the size of those cojones beams:

PS. A couple of words made it past the crudity filter. Apologies to anyone offended.

I'm shooting up Crystalline Shards on a ~zero G planet with a surface that is very close to vertical all over the place. Not my favorite part of space life, but it is a lot quicker grinding than driving around in the SRV on any flat planet staring at the scanner, while getting more and more seasick. When I get back to civilization I think I'll try mining minerals in planetary rings instead. Does anyone know if it still works, as long as you remember not to bring a refinery?

Edit: Yesterday I left the ASP on the surface of the planet in total darkness. Today at least the "Sun" is up :)

I don't know how/if mining works without a refinery - I guess it should do if you set your collector limpets to ignore anything thats not an engineering mat... Because you are using collector limpits, right? ;)

I am given to understand, however, that mining for mats is about the least efficient way it can be done...

I haven't looked into it myself, but I'm sure I've read you only get fairly basic mats, and in small quantities...

The little bits of mining I've done back that up, but again, by no means conclusive!

I wonder if I could make this SRV fly if I run over one of those. 0.03 G? Hold my beer :)

Holy macaroni! :D This is crazy fun. Must try again! I wonder if I can get this thing into orbit? It went pretty high. Not a scratch at the landing even though the bump was spectacular. If you haven't tried this, I recommend doing so, especially in VR.

Sounds awesome! Just point me to the planet and I'll give it a go. (y)

I hated the SRV until I found a decent G planet with a perfect skii slope to drift down. Spent an hour doing that. Seems something got wrong when I tried to post the image however. Will see if I can get it later.

Sorry, I've been trying to OC my GPU, so I've spent a little time in "SAFE" mode in win10 to try and get anything else than a black screen after login. Caution Will Robinson!

The system was HIP 36601, and it was a moon of one of the planets called HIP 36601 C 5 D. HIP 36601 is quite a way from civilization, ~1.600 ly, so it takes roughly half an hour to get there, depending on jump range. It does have some goodies though: Crystalline Shards! You can shoot those and pick up G4 and G5 mats (very quickly). The good thing is that they only drop G4 and G5, and that there plenty of them, so relogging isn't necessary. Scan the moons and look for "Biological..." to find Crystal Shards. You can find the geysers looking for "Geological..." instead, if you should chose to go there.

I think you can find geysers closer to the Bub. From what I learned, fooling around yesterday, the moon (or planet) has to have very low gravity. I don't know how low, but it seems logical that the lower, the better. The moon I used was 0.03 G. Secondly, not all geysers are equal. They have to be pretty powerful to lift the SRV. The ones on the moon I tried were rather violent and had a loud hissing sound. Also they vary in strength over time. Just chose the biggest one you can find, where the steam coming out of it moves as fast as possible. I think I went up to about 7 km in a few seconds :) Weeeee....

Once you are up there, the SRV maneuvers like a spaceship with FAoff, so it is not so easy to stabilize the thing, which is sort of what you want, because the descent is free fall only compensated by the weak thrusters of the SRV. I landed very hard several times, and tumbled over the surface like one of them Mars rovers encapsulated in balloons, but it wasn't destroying the SRV. Bring some mats for SRV repair, or mine them at HIP 36601. The system has everything but a truck stop.

Edit: HIP 36601 is very good for mining Crystalline Shards. You can find Polonium (G5), and Ruthenium, Tellurium and Technetium (all G4). All at moons around the C star (which is ~150.000 ls from the main star). It's well worth the trip, if you need mats for mat trading, and who doesn't?

Here's a video showing a SRV geyser jump:
