Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Absolutely this - have to be frank, having given it some time, fleet carriers have ruined the game for me. My family knew about my expedition out to Colonia, now it appears that the whole thing was a waste of time. There was a guy on FB this morning, half way back from Colonia, didn't fancy the 300 jumps he had left, so was asking someone to come pick him up in a fleet carrier. He's logging back in when they let him know that they're there. Sorry to say it, but as it sits and for my style of gameplay, the 'must have everything now' tranche of society have ruined my favourite ever game and I am incredibly sad about it. Playing more RDR than Elite, suddenly, and might be done entirely. Am actually in mourning.
I really sympathise with this. I must confess I was shocked by just how many carriers there were. I think INARA was listing something like 5000+ (before today's patch which has shuffled things up a bit with it's unique ID change). I really didn't expect that many players to have that many credits. For me, it's not so much the long distance thing (although now you say it I totally get that too) - it's the density within popular systems in the bubble. I know you can filter them out of galaxy map and nav panel but I feel like the system maps of places like Lave, Diso and Shinrarta have been changed forever (and not in a good way, it's like seeing a beauty spot suddenly full of BMW's and Audi's). I did wonder in the beta whether they'd disperse around the galaxy after a while but I really don't believe that's gonna happen now. And actually, it's not even just the system map. Even when you're just flying around you can be looking out of your left window awed by the wonderous view of the cloud formations on a nearby gas giant, and then you look to the right and see targets such as Trumpelstilskin, Fleetwood Smack, I Buy LTDs For A Dollar and Carrier McCarrierFace!
@Simon Templar (and others) - there is still one place, unlimited in scale, where you can pretty much guarantee not encountering another human soul for months of truly glorious, unspoiled exploration ... take your expedition planetside!

At least until Odyssey allows people to erect Coca-Cola vending machines all over the place!

Hmm.

Well, I created a group. It's called "Tyres O'Flaherty" and anyone can join. I thought I'd be able to name the group something suitable but there you go - rushing into things without researching first! :ROFLMAO:

If you do enter it, please don't be offended if I don't answer chats - I'm not normally looking out for them so will more than likely miss them :D

All welcome. Do as you will - I have no aims for the group other than what you want to do. Come and go as you please and do what you like - it's just a bit of fun you can opt in or out of as you like.

Incidentally, I was running low on some materials so had to go to Dav's. This happened:

Truly stuck no matter what. Quit the game and it had shifted slightly, allowing me to jump boost up, turn over a few times, fracture the trans-axel, warp the sub frame and dent the furry dice before landing upright again.

You wre just being GREEDY! Will look up the group - long awaited game time tomorrow and I was going to try Dav's Hope for the first time ... hopefully my driving will be a little less head-firsty....

Nothing, because I hosed myself pretty good and don't know what to do. I accepted a bunch of cargo missions as I was waiting for my Type 9 Trader to transfer to the station I was at. When it got there I loaded it up to the max with over 700 units of cargo. The thought did occur to me that since I accepted the missions in a smaller ship I might find myself unable to deliver some of it in my Type 9 because of pad size, but I had so many missions I figured I'd be able to knock a lot of it out and just transfer what was left to my Python. I was too lazy to go looking through the missions at the time and see where I was going. It turned out every single mission was going to a medium pad, total bonehead move on my part but I don't think I've ever had that happen with so many missions active. So I was stuck with more cargo than any of my ships could handle, much less smaller ships. So I did the only thing I could do, take it to a station with a Black Market and unload enough of it so I could transfer the rest to my Python, take the rep hit and finish the other missions. But for some reason the Black Market won't buy any of it, it doesn't say why it just doesn't do anything. So now I'm wondering if I'm just going to have to jettison this crap into space.

Simon, I'm still heading to Colonia on my PC profile....I'll probably take so long to get there most of the FC's will have dispersed or gone bankrupt and had their carriers repossessed by the Galactic Bank :) Not too worried over it, but I understand how it can be a right mess right now.

Silly question, but how does one join a group? I couldn’t see anything obvious in the ”social” section, other than to create my own group!
I think you need to be invited by the group owner. I did a search for Tyres O'Flaherty, and it came up with him, the CMDR, not the group. From there, I could invite him to my group, but not join his group.

I haven't messed with groups much so I could be missing something :)

Had a good bash at at Sub Surface mining, got 520 LTDs. Just waiting for the carrier taxi to set off to market.
I like SS mining, very much on a par with Core mining, probably faster.
I'm gonna have to rethink my mining ships, they work really well, but too specialised ie boring.

Whoop! Pre-flight lockdown, here we go! :D

Let me look at the settings later - not that there's many of them - as I thought it was just set to auto accept anyone who selected the group. Apologies, all new to me too!

And I had hoped to name the group something more suitable as one called "Tyres O'Flaherty" seems a little arrogant!

I am up to nothing.

I had a feeling that making triple would deprive me of motivation to keep playing - especially with no AX combat zones to maintain my interest - and that's precisely what happened. Go the badge 48hrs ago, logged off, went and painted the hallway woodwork, finished that, now I'm overwhelmed with feelings of can't-be-aaaahsedness when I look at the PS. I currently get more enjoyment writing about Elite than partaking, especially now that I'm ripping into established lore for JKR2.

Without AXCZ's and burning starports I need a motivation. And I have no interest in carriers and don't enjoy mining - I have all the carriers I need provided by Aegis at AXCZs.

Maybe I'll just disappear into the deep dark....

I think if you just abandon the missions, keep the cargo in your hold , it becomes stolen. Then go to black market to sell.
If a mission is abandoned early enough , you may not get a fine fron the mission giverer. If no goods in the hold...and your already at friendly level.

My Nyogel 767a turned up! It will probably be the weekend before I get around to applying it, but it's nice to think I've got it at last. Very quick delivery :)

It does open up a severely "Carry On" style opportunity for a sentence though: "My lubrication gel turned up, so I will be using it on my Thrustmaster at the weekend".

Let us know what it's like. I always used either the ceramic or graphite grease I've got loads of from my RC Chopper days. Lube is lube, right?
