Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Been not in space for a few days, so treated myself to a first landing on an FC - slightly pointless, and just had to fly off and sell the Trit at a station as usual. But it was nice to try it out... next time will try hitching a ride.

Got distracted on Guardian run prep by nearing Elite Trader (84% Tycoon)... returned to Arjung, painted the Cutter orange to fit the rest of the fleet, jumped in the Clipper and re-outfitted for
Painite mining. Wish me luck - Mining is still a newish art for this Cmdr...

Hah! A whopping 4% increase since yesterday on my "dangerous" combat ranking. I'm going to cry going from deadly to elite, I know it. Still, my Thargoid material stores are going up too.

My latest fight took out my shields, half my canopy and left my hull critical. On a threat level 4. Which wasn't so nice. Under normal circumstances - in my very limited experience - a threat 4 isn't too much of a problem. It's all fun though!

Not sure I need the field neutraliser at this point. One thing: is the xeno scanner passive? I don't get time in a fight to "trigger" it.

This is my current build if anyone wants to let me know where any gaping holes are:

You do not need a SFN to fight scouts. The only thing they are really necessary for is multi-interceptor fights.

The xeno scanner has a passive and an active component. You really do not need it for scouts unless you want to see their health and type.

Threat 4 NHSSs can be a bit rough if you get many scouts. Each scout by itself is trivial, but in swarms they can put out a lot of damage and support each other.

Regarding your build, it should be fine for scouts. The most glaring thing is your overcharged power plant, which really isnt necessary. The laser is a bit dubious as well. You would be better off with another large AX MC and put a non-AX utility weapon in the second medium slot.

I'm not into AX but it's noticeable that your build had no more guardian tech except an fsd booster. Obviously not necessary, with scouts at least.
The only really necessary guardian module for AX combat are the gauss cannons (both sizes). The other modules are really optional and for the larger part somewhat inferior to fully engineered standard counterparts.

Perhaps I'll look into those cannons...

In the meantime, I've ditched the xeno scanner and neutraliser, added two shield boosters, fully G5'd the armour and added a hull reinforcement package. The hull seems to be holding up a little better 🤞

These 'goid scouts always make their scan sound when they are just about to visit the Great Alien God In The Sky - which is quite handy for avoiding the caustic cloud they go out in.

OK. Ta.

Also... :D The experimentals for hull reinforcement modules and armour look redundant for Thargoid Scouts... is that an accurate statement or am I missing something? Cheers.

Asterope

Well, no, not quite - in my my kitchen prepping dinner to be precise :D
Wow. I'm not sure where that is in relation to Sol but it seems to have a lot of carriers.

I've taken a little time off from Elite as I go back and play some ye olde point & click Broken Sword but there's a lot of dialogue. I like to listen to podcasts while gaming so it isn't really working out for me.

I’m continuing my survey of the HIP catalogue stars in my slice for Jackie Silver‘s “Glorious HIPs” project.

So far, I have been “first to discover“ 5 of these real stars! And in the process, gathering a lot of positional data for them in game, and adding them to EDSM. I’ve finished up a little wedge of stars and made a break back to the extreme edge of the bubble to off-load data. By some bizarre chance, I wound up in a system that I had visited once before, probably a couple of years ago when I was doing some near-bubble exploring. I hadn’t got it book-marked or anything, so it came as a complete surprise when I arrived at the Orbis and had “Welcome back, commander, it’s good to see you”, with all the system authority ships in green :D

And of course, I am doing this in style, in my iridescently painted Clipper :)

Well, first attempt at Painite mining was a little grindy and decidedly amateur... took 3 trips in the Clipper, and a lot of limpets to get 200t. However it did the job, and got my first big badge in about 30 years...

Guardian run next in the DBX, and top up some exploration data. Or maybe I should go the hallowed land and do the traditional thing of moving my fleet to Jameson Memorial, just because I now can... 🤔

Today may be a little patchy as Virgin are "carrying out work in your area" so my net, TV and phone services may be a bit yo-yo. We'll see.

Pity ED isn't playable offline although I can understand why.

It does make you realise just how reliant we are, these days, of having such services available. Perhaos I need to rake out that old arial and be prepared to bang on the tele to get a signal.
