Wasn't the Duchess that's for sure.Mr Craigs?
Well the download was typically slow.Life got in the way of downloading Odyssey today and just got home.
How's it looking, CMDRs?
Just switch controls to keyboard and mouse preset. Just remember, when you go back to Horizons to play, remember what it was on to switch it back. I had a 2 minute panic until I realized what was wrong..... LOL
.... It seems to have kept my current bindings and just added a section for walking around and general Odyssey stuff. Thank the maker for that!!!
.....
Excellent point! I didn't realise that's how it did it!Just for anyone interested - the game takes your current bindings and creates a new set with those added sections. So for example "mybinds.3.0.binds" becomes "mybinds.4.0.binds" - thus your non-alpha game still has your pre-existing binds preserved. (The StartPreset.start file tells the game to load the binds file name {e.g."mybinds"}, the version of the game decides whether it should load the 3.0 or 4.0 file.)
.so in here:
C:\Users\?YOURUSERBAME?\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings
...
It loads in your current binds file, there are near the bottom two sections for Foot and Foot Modes which you will need to populate.Well, the alpha is downloading... slowly. And I can't play live ED either while I wait. Probably possible if I'd set up a separate launcher perhaps. Hey ho, I can wait. I'm fully prepared for a slideshow until they optimise and one thing concerns me during this twiddling-my-fingers-time - my BINDS. Does it keep my current ones and add sections for Odyssey or will I need to redo the entire lot?
We shall soon see!![]()
What does pressing ctrl f give your FPS as? Are you in double figures?Sorry, I don't follow you. What happens to your current BINDS once the Odyssey pack is running? When you say "switch back", I'm not sure what that means... sorry, I'm bing dense, I know!
EDIT
Right, have the game downloaded. It seems to have kept my current bindings and just added a section for walking around and general Odyssey stuff. Thank the maker for that!!!
I've only spent ten minutes in the alpha so far as I want to do some "real" stuff first. So far:
- How do I get to my ship?
- Why does turning left or right lag graphically while strafing left/right and moving forward and backward is fine?
This is extremely early days for me and I'll get my answers somehow - they're pretty much questions to myself really. The main point of this post from Tyres' alpha experience of the alpha is "Hooray! I can play it!". We'll see when the salt shaker needs to come out![]()

P.S. Anyone still using "custom" should really take the time to rename as per the following link - it will avoid any future grief about having binds overwritten by the game.
lost your binds? want hasstle free backed up binds look no further
keybindings can reset if you visit the control section without one of your usual devices used to play the game ie hotas , xbox pad etc not plugged in or at that present moment is undetected by windows as it thinks your just using keyboard and mouse it simply rewrites your binds for you...forums.frontier.co.uk
Great. Thanks. Does anyone have a solution for sometimes I using a VR headset, sometimes not? Because I seem to have to swap the graphics settings back after using a VR headset and switching back to screen.
