Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Question: I want to try a few on-foot combat missions so what would be the easiest/recommended starting point? The lowest threat ones I can find, say threat 3?

EDIT

Tried twice so far on the lowest threat I could find - 3. Both instances were practically in pitch black. I died very quickly indeed - scoring 1 out of 9 kills both times. Jeez.
I think 3 is the lowest threat level for the scavenger raids. I've found them to be a bit variable, though, with some being easier than others.

As long as you never let yourself get surrounded, the enemies are not too bad. But you gotta duck and weave and take 'em out one at a time.

They aren't very good at following if you go behind stuff or way around buildings, and once you lose them they go into a search pattern, or just stand still.

I then sneak around a corner, take one out, and run away, cutting around a container or whatever is there to run up behind the other one and take him out, etc.

They aren't super fast at realizing you're coming up from behind, it's fairly easy to get the drop on them.

Your radar is important, especially in the dark without night vision, but even if you have night vision the radar is a lifesaver.

If your shield drops, disengage immediately and get behind cover, jump onto a roof, take evasive action until it's back up. Never try to duke it out if your shield is down.

If you just want to practice combat a bit, the low on-foot CZs are pretty easy. No mats to be had though :)

I got most of my practice just doing Restore Power missions and such. There were enough scavs at most of those for me :)

Lately I've been taking more combat missions, though. I'm honing my skill or something.

I had a chance to use my upgraded Executioner today, in fact. It was fun. I was taking out enemies at such a long distance, they could not figure out where I was and just stood there waiting to be shot (in some cases).

I still prefer the shotgun to the face, though. That never gets old. :p

Holy cow.... tried Python in training missions.....pitch like a turtle....definitely not my type for combat. 🤦‍♀️
It gets better with engineering, but yeah, it's more of an armed trader kind of boat. You can make a lot of money with a Python because of its cargo capacity and ability to land on medium pads.

But it's not so great as a combat ship. It can hold its own against a pirate that interdicts you for your cargo, but that's about all the combat I'd do in one.

The Python is as good a combat ship as the Krait Mk. II unless you use fighters. It's not my first choice combat ship, as refitting it for combat is pointless when you have other ships specifically dedicated and fitted for the role, but I will quite happily take it into a conflict zone if I can't be bothered to wait for a ship to arrive.

I tried logging in to see how the performance was improving after buying a new GPU (RTX 3060 Ti).

Coming in to land at a settlement gave me 1-10fps (you read that right) and once disembarked I was getting 45, which is basically no improvement at all over my old 2060.

I logged off in disappointment.
🤦‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️ I think I'd stick with EDH at the moment.... I'm more into flying ships... the fps is nice in EDH with my 2060 ( me running a small monitor tho.)

Wow. My old gtx1050ti gave better rates than that. Before it died, my gtx980ti was quite smooth too. Surprised to hear the rtx3060ti is doing so
poorly!

Is your CPU bottlenecking it?

Wow, got g5 charge enhanced/cluster cap on my vulture.... can almost perma fire the dual stock 3c burst lasers!!! Should forget the mats grind and have some pewpew fun.
Find a compromised nav beacon. As you target possible pewpew battles, you get a chance of your scan collecting encoded materials.

For raw materials, I'd be inclined to head back into Horizons and plunder geo sites.

G4 and 5 manufactured ones are great from high grade emission signal sources.

...
Yeah! That's true. For raws, I no longer bother the geo signals.... I just fly to any big craters wave scan for the rocks to shoot.

Like this, in the huge crater where Lei Cheung's place sit.

So, Im going to eng. my burst lasers as follows:

1x G1 LR/OS
1x G3 Foucsed/OS (I only have dweller unlocked)

Combat is going really badly.

I found a place that was in daylight which made things a bit easier. Managed to take out two of the nine without too much trouble and thought "Hey! this might be OK!". I took my time looking around for a good place to form a choke point. Then another ship arrived and took the scav count up to 15.

This wasn't going to be a cakewalk.

I saw a group of three scavs a fair way away and decided a rocket up their deriere's would be a grand idea.

It wasn't.

It should have occurred to me that it would paint a great big pointer over my head that said "Here he is, boys!". I poked my head back around the crate on the roof behind which I was heading and the scum hit me with a rocket!

No vital signs deteeect eedd.

Not a happy panda. WIll try again tomorrow. Le sigh.

It's a Ryzen 5 3600 with PBO set up as well as I can. It boosts to 3.9-4GHz across all cores. I don't see why it would be a CPU bottleneck, but my reading suggests that update 7 is broadly a bit of a mess.

Shouldn't be a bottleneck with that CPU. Yes, and U7, for me, brought the added bonus of micro stuttering. But not all the time. Yesterday, the game ran like a very thing indeed but today, there were slideshow moments.

I don't understand it.

Yeah, it's kinda lame when they add to the numbers after the fact like that, but hey...such is the life of a mercenary, eh?

I've never messed with the rocket launcher except during alpha. I blew myself up with it first shot I took. Decided it wasn't for me :p

Anyway I've detailed my tips already. All you need now is practice. Fun times. I love learning new skills.

Apparently, neither does FDEV. I sure hope they get it sorted though.

Like you, most of the time Odyssey is very playable and smooth. And then there are times when it goes to 2 frames per second, for a long time. Usually this happens when I'm arriving at a settlement. It seems especially bad if ships are overhead at the time, but that's just conjecture.

If I wait through the 2 FPS, it will smooth out after a while (like a minute or two), and be playable again. I consider it an annoyance, but nothing more, at this point.

I never hung around long enough to figure out if the reinforcements run out after a while.

Meaning, sometimes when the settlement alarm goes off (did not disable alarm) but I just mow them down because I am feeling confident with my G5 equipment and even take out the 2nd or 3rd wave but as long as the alarm is one, the waves keep coming. I never did hang around or last long enough to find out if the reinforcements end after you wipe out the nth wave.

Can someone explain to me if this is a bug of I am missing something? I have this supercruise assist on my Robigo Bus which I want to sell. However, when I click on it in outfitting, the sell button is disabled. Under the option to store , it does not allow me to store it because it says 'Module will exceed maximum mass'. Dafug? How does removing a module exceed maximum mass????

Weird happenings! Beside the constant Mauve Adders.
The FSS was showing orbit lines for all undiscovered bodies. My bookmarks looked like Odyssey ones.
And I just got kicked while jumping to a system with 4% hull and no shields, only to relog a be at full health!

Is it damaged or a "hot" module? I'm thinking bug and why the message about mass? I thought the SCA had zero mass...

How about trying to fit another SCA in that slot? Probably won't work though.

Are you at a station where SCAs are not being sold? Not sure if it makes a difference trying to sell a module to a station that doesn't supply them in the first place.

Yes, I am guessing! :D

Edit sorry, that was intended as the pp ly to @Yingnei Gasua
