Ah, here we are then. If it's the big rewards you're after it definitely IS worth scanning duplicate plants on different bodies in the same system, because of the big "First to Log" bonus you get for each one. Here's two Tussocks samples of the same variety on two different moons in the same system I just got:

Even if you don't get a Codex for either, all that does is show your name in the Codex as a "First Reported by" for other commanders to view with their own logins. (You just see a blue "Confirmed" with your own login. )

You'll get some money for Codex but it's peanuts compared with the "First to Log" bonus you get for Vista submissions. I can't submit my own Codex until I arrive at a station somewhere (probably in the bubble) but my transactions screen still only shows a total of about 1.5 million so far and that's after I left the bubble, went across Inner Orion Spur and Hawking''s Gap and into Norma Expanse, whereas my Vista rewards so far since I left the bubble total about 4 billion.

I don't bother scanning duplicates. The time you spent doing that you could have moved on and scanned more originals that are worth 3 to 5 times that amount.

True, but you've got to find the bodies with those originals on first and usually I find I'm exploring loads of systems, all first to discover for me and with plenty of bodies, but nothing with any bio signals at all on them. That system I found with 36 bios was a real anomaly and very rare indeed in my experience.

So I tend to grab what I can when I find it.

Yes that sort of thing has happened to me a few times as well, but it's down to good luck as there's no way of knowing what bios a body has until you map it and even then you don't know what varieties they are or how much they are worth until you land there and find them.

Of course there is a bacterium down there in fact there are probably more than 3 sites that have a bacterium.
What there isn’t is a large enough colony of them so that they are visible to anything less powerful than a Tunnelling Scanning Electron Microscope.

They aren't lying. They are contaminated.

I have another rule I go by, if there's two or less biosigns, I move on, three or more I'll map it and land. I just had a system with 60 body's and one moon had three biosigns, there's not much in the way of life in this section of the galaxy.

I mostly just go down if the planet looks pretty. My aim is to spend enjoyable time wandering the planet. Credits and Codexes are secondary for me. I just like being out there.

It's not like I'm in a hurry.

I actually rarely skip a planet. You never know when it'll be the coolest one ever, or have some beautiful vista.

I have to admit to being just a bit envious - i have to go out and source provisions, then ferry them to the fridge… not looking forward to this at all - isn’t it much easier just to call for pizza fuel delivery?

Well, it gives me an excuse to fly the T9 bucketbrick. You can get a lot of curry fuel in one.

Aye, it's a chore isn't it. When I was filling up my carrier using the T9, I broke up the boredom from time to time by going to an on-foot CZ I'd found not far away.

I used to go by that same rule (Because of you, of course as you're the one that taught me that), but these new and improved Codex payoffs have changed my mind. If it's a possible new Codex entry, I'll fly to the planet and scan it. If it's still marked new Codex, I go get it.
