Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Oh, pic du jour. Who said something about getting ship interiors?

Aha! …so all that was needed was the special vortex-warp suit that lets one walk through walls? Going to start collecting them in every colour now… :]

And then you drop down to planet to seach for bio and realise all you can between your legs is floorplates!
I'm no exo-bio elite, but when I drop down to planet to search for bio, I know they're going to be right where I want them - in the blue circle (don't want to walk too far)
Until you try to manually scoop things in space - there is an annoying reflection which masks stuff in the "target box" when scooping.
This is true, but I can't think of when I've ever wanted to manually scoop when exploring. Can you give an example?

It was specifically a response to @Jack Winter's "I've recently started flying a dolphin and IMO it's an amazing small ship!" - b all to do with exploration.

BTW - back in the day you could come across a "Survey Cache" in the black - the large ones were worth a lot back then - peanuts now of course - but there is an example of something to scoop when exploring.

One can always flip the ship 180 degree and fly upside down.. :)
That is much riskier in Odyssey and presumably in Horizons 4.0 than in legacy, the reduced thruster strength that causes so many Advanced Docking Computer issues with for example the Cutter means that if your ship isn’t the right way up near a planet it can start to drop out of the sky on planets with less than 1g.

I have had this with my Phantom, banked on one side so I can use pitch to more quickly look round in a circle to spot any bios and at around 0.75g and up it started to lose altitude.

Okay, I have the urge to head out into the middle of nowhere once more exploring and salad hunting, so any more Thargoid Scout attacking attempts by me will have to wait till I get back. The way it's going though I'd imagine those 'goids will be around the bubble for at least a few months more yet, so I guess I have plenty of time!

I've stocked up the carrier with tritium and set a carrier course North-West this time, towards Temple but hopefully will go a bit further than that, as when I saw how much tritium I'd used on my last trip to Norma Expanse via Hawking's Gap. I saw that I'd not really used much at all. On that trip I did all these jumps, most of which were very close to the 500 LY limit:

When I got back, the carrier cargo hold was still showing 19370/25000, so I could have gone much further. But anyway I have rigged my Python for mining as well, so if I feel like it I can spend a week or two to get 10 tons of tritium from a hotspot. :sneaky:

Although, to be honest, I'm struggling to find a good use for my Adder, Hauler and Sidey :D
My Sidey is more a memento than a ship I regularly use, although it is equipped with everything to make it fly.
The Adder is one of my mat collectors. And the Hauler is my personal Taxi.

If possible, I rotate the ship so the belly faces the sun to minimize that glare.
But I usually do that with every ship, just to be able to read the instruments agan...

That doesn't help in this case. The reflection is caused by the cockpit illumination, rolling to stop the star illuminating the cockpit doesn't affect this issue in the Dolphin. I had a picture of it but I can't find it and I'm out in the Formidine Rift sans Dolphin at the moment.

Oh didn't know that. I'm mostly in my iCourier for bio scanning and it appears to work ok.
