Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

My trick is to have two aged MG's in the garage. The amount I have had to sink into those over the years has caused the ever-lovely Mrs Templar to think any gaming-related expenditure a mere drop in the ocean, with the added benefit that while gaming I can't be fixing/breaking more parts on the cars.

Thank you - will be back out in the black soon, this time with my choice of HUD colour, IIRC. Exciting times, it's good to be back. Thanks again for your help.

I'm jealous... I've always loved the MG's!

Welcome back! Send me a friend request in-game, if you'd like.

Aha, thank you - will do, once I have the PC side up and running.

And yes, thank you, the MG's are nothing fancy but they keep me entertained, are a hoot on our country lanes and are much more fun for both me and the kids when dashing to their various activities than taking the moderns. They give me hours of tinkering but it keeps me out of trouble.

There's a pic of my babies, if others will forgive the non-gaming diversion. At least I'm not asking for help!!

Those are very nice! I once owned a Triumph, when I was quite young -- in my 20's I think. It wasn't a very good car, but it looked cool so I was happy :)

You could use the Scan site to "build" a rig the same as the Box one and see how the prices compare.

OR...

Just go for broke and get one of these instead: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/8pac...9-10980xe-intel-core-i7-10700k-fs-006-8p.html
To be fair that is not so much a laptop as a luggable.

I got super lucky. I was able to sell my old video cards on eBay and found a 3090 Ti for about 1/2 its normal price on there. So, I think my total out-of-pocket was about 200USD.

The added bonus is my computer now has the added functionality of being a space heater.
The downside is that functionality becomes less of a benefit during the hot season.

They used a TR7 in "The Professionals". Bodie and Doyle lost all street cred for me when that happened :(
That was probably early on, apparently they switched to Fords because they would provide the same cars each time they needed them for a shoot while BL just gave them whatever was nearest the door. Apparently continuity was another thing on the long list of stuff BL didn’t understand.

I looked through some photos (on the web) and I'm pretty sure this is the car I had, although I don't recall the year. But it was a blue Spitfire.

I remember sliding on some ice and sort of bumping into the curb, sideways. Bent the axle. It was expensive to fix.

Still see the odd one or two on the road now.

Aaaaanyway :D

I just did a scav takedown and found their voices a bit odd in what they were saying. I'd sneeked into the compound and I could already hear them saying "Have you got eyes on the target?", "Moving up" and "The enemey is trying to run". They didn't even know I was there! Psychic, I tell you.

Good morning, all. Inordinately long time away, sorry, for which I can only apologise. Life took over somewhat, some deaths, some ensuing legal issues (we really should all hire a solicitor when we hit 50 and make sure that our affairs and wishes will make sense to those who follow), some business issues, some kids taking exams, some building work, all conspired to keep me away from much of my gaming and all of my fora. Hope you are all well?

Anyhoo - what am I up to? Squadron life was skittled by the console/PC split (we were mostly Xbox), although we have sent an advance party over to PC so the squadron still lives on, albeit somewhat reduced (we were #1 on Xbox with over 100 members six months before the split, have the shiny dashboard trophies to polish when feeling nostalgic) but now my life has cleared up a little (although eldest offspring takes A levels next month, so stress and worry are constant bedfellows!) I am back in the gaming saddle. What am I up to, game-wise?:

Two days ago I triggered the decommissioning of my beloved fleet carrier (the Templar's Rest, give her a flyby if you see her, she will be left marking a pristine world nearish to our homeworld, so I can still visit), in order to cash out and try the account port to PC. I will have just under 10bn if the decommissioning works (never tried it before!) so can resume squadron life on the PC side. Assuming I get a PC. To whit, ignore if you wish but can I ask a technical question, especially I guess of you UK chaps -

Will ED run on a laptop? And have you ever used box.co.uk or scan.co.uk? And would ED run on any of these, do you think, and why the massive disparity in price? And is £1500 a realistic budget for a gaming laptop to run ED? I do have a particular set of skills - some of them not a mile off Liam Neeson's on-screen ones - but sadly the hardware side of computers is nowhere near my wheelhouse. If any kind soul could point me at a £1500 laptop which would run ED (or tell me that I need to let the mothballs out of my wallet and quit dreaming) then it would be very much appreciated. I found these few but am flying in the dark without the talent or connection to The Force to get away with it. (And yes, needs to be a laptop ideally as I live six weeks a year in Portugal and would want to take it with me!! I'll also do a bit of work on it - price charts run on anything.)

Lovely to be back, and am serious about the PC switch, this time. Even have approval from 'er indoors!!

(And on the whole 'is Odyssey worth it' question, it's very subjective. Many love it. I tried it a few times and was underwhelmed, prefer walking around in other games which do it better, personally, so I am strictly a pilot in ED, but if you're even pondering it I'd dive in and try it. Majorities tend not to agree with my niche opinions on such things, anyway!!)
Welcome back.
Out of the 3 laptops you link only the 3rd is good enough. But you can spend less than £1900.
The first two laptops only have 8GB RAM and that's barely enough. Go with 16GB RAM. The graphics card ideally need 6GB RAM but I run a laptop with a 4GB RAM graphics card which reduces quality a bit and sometimes the game will briefly freeze. It works well mostly though.
As to Odyssey, I'm a pilot and I don't do much FPS play. I do like Exobiology as an addition to exploration, so Odyssey is worth it to me for that. Exobiology pays well too.

...it's been a week of ambling about again - quite a few terraformables, reasonable selection of salads and a few interesting first footfalls :]

Ah an old friend of my father's had a couple of these beauties in the garage that he used to restore in his retirement years - they'd raced them a bit quite some years ago (that was the 1950's & 60's ^) during their uni years here in SA - dad had had an older MG T-Type (i've only seen a few old B&W photo's of it...) in the characteristic racing green... looked like it was from the 40's or earlier with those "bicycle-spoke" wheels :)

*in fact, it apparently was... ^^
