Here's something a little different.

It is a well known fact that a fleet carrier cannot move like a ship - it can only jump, right? Right?

Not entirely true. Here's me trying to dock with mine. Note the distance reticule.

I've seen megaships move like this. Actually so fast I've failed to catch it to scan the ship log link. I noticed the planet ring was orbiting fast. I think your carrier is caught up with the fast moving ring. You could do with better parking spot for it.

That was interesting! Probably a result of fast orbit / instancing mismatch indeed - if you dropped in closer, you would be in the carrier’s gravitational field and thus same instance …i think? 🤓

I've had that occasionally, with my carrier and others. It also used to happen if your carrier was orbiting a pair of barycentric moons; you dropped out of supercruise and the carrier would vanish into the distance. I have a (possibly faulty) memory that particular bug got fixed...
