Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hey I did get promoted though now I'm a Squire, and became invited to go to Achenar, which wasn't very exciting. But it had a lot of visitor beacons - I might go read some of later. While I experiment with this 1T of Onionhead Gamma, that is even more fresh than it is legally disobliging
Planet 3 can be very exciting and interesting times can be had landing there given the right ship choice, the company of others in different ships can lead to photo/video opportunities.

Don’t forget your rebuy.

Yeah, me too. (Mine didn't have a link though). Hmm

Need a little help...

As I can't read the bottom line on my outfitting screen and EDSM doesn't have the Mandalay yet, I'm relying on EDD to show me my current FSD range.

Am I reading this right in that the distance quoted in the red rectangle below is the actual current jump range of my ship?

I think that is the single jump range with full tanks and cargo as it says laden.

You could export the ship from Inara to one of the shipyards Coriolis has Mandalay in the beta version whose URL is on its screen and EDSY has just been updated.

Your current jump range should be the first entry of that line.
The second entry shows how many ly you are able to jump over all before you must refuel to get any further.
Laden is the jump range with full fuel tank(s), passenger cabins and/or cargo holds
Unladen is with full fuel tank but empty cargo/passenger holds.
Max is the jump range if there's just enough fuel left for one jump.
Max fuel stands for the maximum amount of fuel the FSD can use for a jump.
Current looks like it is your fuel gauge, at this moment there are 8t in your 32t tank.
Reserve must be what is depicted by the thin line above the fuel gauge in the cockpit.

Hi All :)

What am I up to...🤔...I've just done something I hate doing.😣 I sorted out some old computer hardware and other stuff I no longer use for one reason or another, so I've just loaded up the car and we're off to the local tip / recycling plant this morning. I also hate going to the tip, I don't know why...strange. 🤷‍♂️
Some of the stuff might be taken by age uk as there is a depot in the same place so....
Does anybody else dislike doing tip runs?...or sorting out stuff you don't really need / use anymore?

As for the Game, still kitting out some ships etc. then loading up on tritium and heading out into the black sometime this week. :)

Jack :)

I find this sort of thing very difficult - not that i’m a compulsive hoarder ofc^, just that I’m always thinking things like “but we might get it running again …as a rainy day project” or “and we might need those components/cables/tiny little screws” …i guess this accounts for the collection of SCSI cables, drive cases, AppleTalk gear and other miscellaneous bits that fill a whole cupboard in my work room …there’s even a c.1998 G3 PowerBook in there somewhere - just in case i find a replacement screen someday :geek:

I’ve been playing more on the ground than expected - it’s always nice to have a game with other players online…

...so after this, i think it’s back-to-the-void in the Mandalay… “Galactic Glider” has emerged as a working title, though i want to find something a bit more unique/distinctive :)

I can definitely relate. I still have my old "WW II bomber" multi-fan pc tower case standing right next to my desk. I always wanted to check why it had died on me but life got in the way. (Which seems to be the title of the song of my life...)

It is nice to have other players online, yes. Unless they're some honorless Targs that shoot down ships without weapons.
And shields in the last case this happened - was in the Shooting Star, which is a racecraft. And as the last race had banned shields...

I think "Galactic Glider" is a fitting name for the Mandalay. Might have been an option for me if my first impression wouldn't have won the poll before I even set it up...

Be careful what you throw away, vintage hardware may be worth money.
I also postpone recycling trips until the stuff starts getting in my way.

Numerous old and defunct computers around, keep thinking about the idea of resurrecting the case by putting a whole new machine of some sort inside but keeping the original look of a 20+ year old machine. An i9 that looks like a 486. Or if I can find it a ZX81 with a Raspberry Pi inside.

So many ideas so few roundtuits.

I am at the stage of flying my Mandalay around to add experimentals though currently the two of us are being distracted while I go harvesting signal sources with it.

It might get renamed but currently it is the Flying Fish.

As for tip runs... cardboard boxes usually stack up in my entrance room until I can't access the wardrobe any more. Oh, and some old electical/electronic stuff that isn't as bulky and therefore gets ignored.
Oh, and does anyone want two dysfunctional 2kW diesel air heaters?

Old stuff: currently (i.e. since several months) stacked up for putting on eBay are an HP Reverb (no picture any more, I suspect the video cable) and the parts that went out when I rebuilt my Prusa i3 to Mk4 (minus the display bord, that one's still stuck inside my box...).

I have loads of kit old lying around. I have some HDD's somewhere as I don't like wondering if some dodgy tip person might take them and see if they can get details about me off 'em. Paranoid much, Tyres? :D

The system I was in no longer has any conflict zones so I'm currently trying to find a new place to lay day down covering fire and git sum git sum.

and there is of course the better rationale that someone else might need the keyboard or something ^^

Well, if any of you need FOUR D-Sub VGA cables which I have for some reason, do let me know...

tbh a DVI to D-Sub cable is probably the only thing that is not there - my last one having been "borrowed" by a friend some years ago...

...i'd take up the offer but tbh, i probably still have enough of the adaptor things :]

Speaking of cables, in a stroke of synchronicity, I've been playing Elite in wireless VR this afternoon through Steam Link on a Quest 2. It took seconds to set up and would actually stream, whereas the Quest Link software just flat out refused. Steam Link was super simple to set up too. My kids have managed to break the link cable, so have ordered one (a knock off, not the £90 -take Meta sell.)

It seems weird to say this, but the game doesn't feel as grand (for want of a better term) as it used to in VR. I wonder if that's just me being old and less easily impressed, or if something has changed.

Space combat is still ace, however. You have so much more situational awareness when you can just casually lean your head back to see the vector of the ship you're fighting.

For the record, I'm not especially bothered by the lack of true VR on foot. The virtual screen could be a bit bigger, but I'm not about to rage quit.
