Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Hi All :)

Now that I've got 'Pepys' orbital base finished (I've yet to personally name it, but I'm leaving that decision to my two young grandsons, as it will be their 'secret' base)) I went to a few other players systems recently and contributed to their station builds. I didn't contribute in a big way, but I pushed their builds up several percent at least.:)
I'm now heading out to the outer reaches of the bubble (in my carrier) to do some snooping around, I've still got some hundreds of the more common build commodities that I might offload at some of these outer player claimed systems, then I might head out into the black at some point and do some more exploring, as a complete change.

I'm still very interested in colonisation, but as I mentioned somewhere, until I have complete knowledge of the intricacies of a system build I'll leave off building up my system for now for another day, and besides, my grandsons will also need to learn how it's done.
Oh, just remembered @STRONTIUM DOG!...:D...please upgrade your system security, I was attacked by pirates in my shield less Cutter there the other day, but I managed to avoid the blighters!. ;)

Jack :)

eh?
i did not know you could do that?
question how do u do that?
oddly someone took care of all the small goods my other outpost required leaving only steel, titanium and liqO2 required?
what do they get for contributing?
I think the only way to get the security rating up is hunting some pirates.

If I understood that right, they get money for the goods they deliver. Like in the latest CG.

:ROFLMAO:...I'm joking, well...about system security. I've no Idea how you do that either, at the moment, but I would think it's possible. I was quite surprised I was attacked, as the other player systems I've been to have been free of pirates,I think....Edit...I think Cmdr. Timber Mc Wolf might possibly be correct with the pirates as this tactic worked before Colonisation. (y)

I was looking for some more Titan drives (I've got 2 at the moment) and it was just by coincidence that I came across your claimed system.
Yep, twas me :)... I delivered most of the small stuff you needed, as I said, I'd been contributing to some other players stations and came across yours.
What do you get by contributing?....Well you get paid for the commodities, but the best part I get is satisfaction with helping other players. I slipped up on the insulating membrane though as the station I bought it from didn't have quite enough stock.

I had quite a bit of help from Blaggerdy (in the Colonisation Assistance Megathread) with my own station, which I'm very grateful for, so I thought I'd do likewise for a few other Cmdr's. albeit on a smaller scale, (I'm not totally sure but I think Blaggerdy sometimes plays in a group so I presume some of the group do a similar thing).

Anyway, I digress, I've just been to Hip 74290 (Pratchett's Disk) and I'm generally skirting the outer edges of the bubble. I see that some of these 'outer' inhabited systems and stations generally don't have the Colonisation tag in the station services menu....interesting, but not surprising. ;)
Ok, time to jump the carrier again and have some breakfast! :coffee:

From what I have read.
Adding Security and/or Military Installations to your system should help boost security levels the Pirate Installation should presumably lower it.

In the station menu news section apparently at the bottom is a list naming and fameing architects and contributors or at least those in the top 5.

I have been unlocking an engineer for the first time since the revamp.

Some time ago I bought a Mandalay and because I wanted it engineered but also wanted it to have a range of 50-60Ly to tie in to how I like to explore I built it heavy with guns.
Turns out it is a ship I like flying in space but one I find annoying near a planets surface, I do a lot of Exobiology when exploring so that was a minor issue solved by the Cobra V.

There was an exploration based CG so I headed back to the bubble, it locked down so to help others by trying to lift it I did some bounty hunting using the Mandalay since it was armed.
I was rusty and it wasn’t a full combat build but I noticed that very unusually for me I was managing to hold targets at short range, a dim lightbulb moment later and I was adding medium Fragmentation Cannons and finally unlocking and ranking up Zachary Nemo.

Next thing to do is visit my carrier and replace the full SRV hanger with something more useful in combat.

I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can
Watch my CMM Composites unload
And wonder if
My Outpost gonna melt

Outpost (Medium).png

(One thing I could do without: my friendly CMM supplier is currently on the dark side of their planet so I have to SCO out of the settlement before I can get line of sight to jump back here)

On the on foot side of things the only engineer unlocked is Domino although I know about most of the others.
I got an invitation from Domino, but didn't get any further on that side. Though I would like a few more upgrades for my Artemis suit, it isn't reall on my priority list, for now.

Maybe taking off the sunglasses might help...

I have to say I used to find having to fly round the planet to line up for the jump quite frustrating especially when hauling tempting cargo.
Now it is so much better, take off pull up to a vertical climb, jump to cruise as soon as possible, hit SCO, when the planetary flight HUD switches off cancel SCO and line up on the jump target which will now be clear of the planet.

Now this was doable before but would have been slow and felt a bit wrong as you are heading away from the target.

I am almost sorry when the target is in sight as I lift off.

You have to expect bounty action with these guys running the place.

It's almost poetic.

take off pull up to a vertical climb,
Depending on in which direction the target is, I don't even bother going to the 90° climb. If it is actually on the opposite side, okay, but otherwise I just turn into the direction, angle up a little over 45° and off we go.
i have come across quite a few g3 Artemis suits that have pre mods that are useless on that type of suit really..............
Yeah, took me some time to find one with the coveted night vision in a pile of useless mods...

for an Artemis
imo dont go for enhanced scanning if there is most likley gona be no one to be made aware of
same goes for quite foosteps etc

The extra radar range can alert you to Concha creeping up on your ship where you have bedded down for the night - likewise, quieter footsteps can be useful for sneaking up on Fungoida/Frutexa that otherwise might be startled and go into hiding…? :geek:
