Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I got an invitation from Domino, but didn't get any further on that side. Though I would like a few more upgrades for my Artemis suit, it isn't reall on my priority list, for now.

Maybe taking off the sunglasses might help...
I just got an invite from Domino too - but i’m 22KLY away in Colonia, where I’d hoped to meet Mel Brandon to sort out my Phantom’s 30LY jump range… but apparently I should’ve gotten to know Liz Ryder better back in the bubble first… spontaneity (aka “lack of planning”) has its price i guess :D

I don't like Domino's attitude. For some reason, she just annoys me. Mind you, the rest of the personal equipment engineers aren't much better. Thankfully, I've no burning need to visit them again.

EDIT: I had my finger poised over the "buy" button for ARX to but the CMV (stellar). I paused and thought "let's check in with those splendid CMDR's on the forum's most helpful thread first" :D

What are your opinions (if you have the ship) on the Cobra V? Is it a ship worth having? What do you use it for?

In my opinion is was a waste of Arx - it is useless without engineering and of course that negates the insta-spawn and free rebuy advantages. In another place someone asked what the stellar loadout was as purchased so I posted a screengrab of EDD's ship info, have a look, it is rubbish - BTW only the covas is not as per delivered.

Note the ship name ...

I would suggest buying the vanilla version instead, I wish I had, the ship is great, the Stellar loadout is not.

I think as a seasoned commander, Tyres doesn't care as much about the modules, as he most likely has an abundance of modules stored. It's more about the paintjobs and kits that come with these ships.

I was considering it as an alternative to my Viper IV which is currently my ground assault/ground mission running ship. In this scenario, I'd be ditching the guns on the CMV (stellar) and replacing them with anti-personnel ATG missiles :D

The only module that really matters to me on this ship is the SCO. I have, as you say, a few modules here and there I could apply to the loadout - in fact, I think I'm at the limit I can store on my carrier. The bonus with the pre-build, is that I don't have to worry about buying modules (CR's aren't really a concern - just laziness) although I would have to remote engineer it a bit with a possible visit to one or two engineers for experimental effects.

Speaking of the carrier, if I did get the CMV, I would have to kick one of my least used ships off which would then, more or less permanently, go into storage.

I was more interested in how the ships feels to fly. Is it agile? What sort of jump range will it have if I max it out?

I got the Vanilla version not the Stellar as my stock of Arx from before the store changes had about run out.
I have only changed the FSD for the pre-engineered one from the CG and fitted a pre-engineered Detailed Surface Scanner, a 5A Fuels Scoop and a size 4 Guardian FSD booster.
Obviously I junked the SuperCruise Assist module as a waste of everything and engineered the existing E rated core modules and anything else that I could.

I am using it as my exploration and exobiology ship as it jumps up to 62Ly* and I find much nicer to fly near the ground as a Mandalay.

Even with such poor modules fitted it is a joy to fly, fast and manoeuvrable the visibility is superb especially given just how much of the floor is window.

I definitely recommend this ship.

*This is with heavy modules all over the place and only 9.3Ly from the booster.

It's the best flying ship I've ever had. It lands on a dime. It boosts like crazy. It handles like a dream. The cockpit view is amazing.

I have mine set up for exobiology mostly, but it could handle other things easily.

After flying it I'm spoiled for other ships. They all feel clunky and slow.

So, don't buy it because you'll start to realize how flawed the rest of your ships are! (just kidding, a little, but it really is a fine, fine ship).

(Note that I dumped all the original modules and replaced them with engineered stuff)

If it were a medium ship, it would be so well balanced everyone wouild complain about it. Since she's a small ship, well, she's so much OP that you won't look at another small ship again. More agile than a Sidewinder, can boost faster than a Viper (unless you go for EPTs), en par on jump range with the Dolphin or Hauler, can haul more cargo than a Keelback and has more teeth than a Viper or an iCourier. What I use(d) it for so far? Everything. Got me into the top 100% at the last hauling CG (ok, I didn't really try) and the top 75% of the BH CG, and I'm just on my way back from the 5 kly trip to unlock the Prof, with a few firsts under my belt (once I cash them in - including a Tectonicus). Mining? Easy.
My loadout as of yesterday evening:
The PDs are still stuck on from the Guardian trip, and for the BH CG I had plasmas instead of the missiles. I don't have all of the engineers unlocked yet on this account (and am still struggling with PP).

One paint job and a six-part kit. The red "Planar" repaint that comes with it does not seem to be available separately, I didn't realise that - maybe it is another "hook" to buy the pre-built ship by FDEV.
