Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I have to say that I have never found a group of 2 MMs - I thought they always occur as singles and triples. I have a few times been in one triple group and had the wavescanner signal for another MM in the distance.

re Arsenic - I had a thread about this so-called percentage composition figure given in the planet data and in the end I think it just means there might be some there if there is any figure, the actual figure meant diddly-squat it seemed. :)

This spawning rate problem is really two-fold.
The rare mats are more likely to spawn in "rare" outcrops. And the outcrops are spawning not entirely by the RNG. Rather when you pick up an outcrop of a certain type, the same type of outcrop is more likely to spawn nearby. Translated into human language - if you're only picking up mesosiderites, you will generally find more mesosiderites, etc.. That is my experience.

Therefore - if you focus on metallic meteorites, which has the highest probability of arsenic, you will find out that the 2% composition/probability can be quite accurate and sometimes even exceed it. If you, however focus on different types of outcrops (It's tempting to shoot at everything that appears on your wave scanner, you might end up in a situation where you're only spawning lower-grade outcrops and finding NO arsenic whatsoever.

Quite possible that it was a triplet and I just missed the 3rd one, so it appeared to me to be a duo. in the end I am new to this kind of stuff and still learning.

I traded for arsenic in the end so have plenty now. What's the highest percentage/planet you've seen? I've witnessed about, at most, 1.8%

There is definitely more possible, I have seen more than 2%, but I don't remember what the exact number was.

I regularly see 2.5% or 2.6% planets, but then, I'm nowhere near the bubble; maybe that makes a difference? I can't think it does though, I was finding the stuff readily enough when I was busy in the bubble, so maybe you've just been extraordinarily unlucky :(

What I'm hunting is Yttrium and Polonium, but even those can turn up in quantity in the right places. I have a bookmarked 1% Polonium world out up near the Monkey Head nebula which has been very kind to me :)

Polonium is a problem for me, but Yttrium I actually find plenty of - I did not even expect it to be rare therefore.

Sorry to post so quickly twice to this thread but something just popped up I've never seen before... is this common? I'm wondering if it's worth going for... only about 244 lys away.

Thats a new one on me! Mind you, I haven't had any comms sent to me since July :D

You're not playing in Beta there, are you? I don't ever recall a co-ordinate specific mission, and especially not a "Tip Off" like that - sounds good :)

They are very close to each other in terms of rarity. Polonium is the rarer of the two, but only just - both in terms of the planets it is found on and the % yield.

FSD boosts use them, which is why I seek them out.

Ok, because you knowledgeable guys are around now, a eventually simple question:

I am stuck now at Alliance level ALLIED 100% - rank NONE 100% - how do I get a rank with this faction and can I improve my alliance rating even more?

Well, and another question - if I get a rank in that alliance, will I be bound to this alliance then?- It would be for federation, but federation are rude people, threatening and overall not polite, I rather would want to be allied with the Empire.

Alliance has no rank.
100% Allied, that's it.

You have a week to get there (Brit date format) so no need to rush. You can earn a bit from the data core (it varies from tip-off to tip-off) plus any cargo cannisters lying about. If there is salvage there then you can re-log to get it to spawn more as it is a sort-of-persistent POI. I have seen ones these with co-ordinates so you are not going on a wild-goose-chase, just don't expect multi-millions. ;)

re. Polonium - I always leave piles of the stuff around Dav's Hope - there is loads of it when you shoot stuff out there and so much chromium that the planet should be a limited edition paint-job. :D

You CAN be allied with all 3 major factions at once although it is harder now that the rate decays faster and the allied threshold is higher. It makes no difference to your standing with any major faction if you are allied or even high-ranked in the naval reserve of any others.

I'm in Mobius... think I'll refit my T6 and hop on over!

Cobra would be good for that as well - it has enough slots and with a slightly modified FSD you could make the distance in 4-6 jumps with FSD injection. My Cobra has just a level 1 upgrade to it's FSD, but it can jump 54ly with FSD injection 2 - which basically means, even this rather poorly imprioved FSD would get me there in 5-6 jumps.

One of the strange things about this game is that you can be at 100% allied with the Feds, The Empire, and the Alliance, all at the same time. You can even hold the maximum naval rank with them simultaneously! :)

Agreed but, I changed my mind :D My AspX has a good jump range now (around 50ly - my DBX is doing 60 though) so I've swapped the AFMU for a cargo rack and, tomorrow, I'll be off.

See, this is what I like about this game: you can sail along doing the same stuff and getting all Zen about it when wham! summit like this kicks you right in the collector limpet. Before I go though, with just shy of 200m CR, I'm wondering whether to go Python or save more for the 'Conda. I'll do this tip off first and gather my thoughts en route.

But how do I get a naval rank - this is what I want to know.
