Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Faffing around USSs just because.

I was wondering though: do they reset on logout/system jump so you get a different set each time, or do they stay the same until some predetermined condition is met?
Sadly, I think they are all on timers.
No resetting. :(

Spent a lot of time testing this.
What I do now (Specifically for mat gathering) is jump in my Python, stock up on limpets and just randomly jump around populated systems for an hour or two.

They're on timers, but there are also some bugs (of course).

For example: If you enter a USS and take the stuff and leave, then the USS expires. But if you enter a USS and take the stuff and then Exit to Desktop (from the menu), then the USS doesn't expire and if you log back in it will still be there, and the mats will be back too. Oh and if you exit to Main Menu instead of Desktop, then the USS expires.

So there's clearly supposed to be some kind of timer/usage logic that determines when they expire, but it's unclear what it should do, and it currently does different things in different situations.

As my Dad would often say, SNAFU. (Situation normal, all fouled up). :p

God, I was out trawling outbreak systems last night looking for them, only needed half a dozen or so to finish off a single module. Finally got a high-grade emission with the outbreak state and what was it? Bloody proprietary composites.

I eventually wound up running out of storage space for proto heat radiators and trading those instead.

Decided on a nice relaxing shopping spree at Dav's. Oh look! Chemical manipulators - I need me some of those. Zoooom! Crunch. Erm... I think I'm stuck.

Five minutes it took me to get off that storage rack. FIVE blimmin' minutes! Those up and down thrusters need a bit of yaw in 'em too.

:D

Morning all! Haven't been around much, recently, owing to building work at home, but here's a question if you don't mind:

Our eldest son (14) is Fifa-mad, so has recently twisted my arm into me getting Xbox Live, so he can play on a team his school friends have put together. Thing is, in the margins of setting that up on (my old, now) his Xbox One, that also means that I have Xbox Live on my own Xbox One X. So that throws up the possibility of me starting to play in Open (hitherto I have been a Solo player). My question (and I realise, with apologies, that I could have left out the entire domestic insight/Xbox chatter, as the question stands alone) - my current ship is an Orca, so is switching to Open suicidal? I hear so many tales of big fish picking on small fish that I fear I might just be blasted to smithereens as soon as I leave space dock. I realise that I can simply try, but thought I'd see whether anyone in here has a view?

The Orca has weapons and shields and I'm not a complete idiot as a pilot, but it is configured for exploration and passenger runs - I don't kid myself that I can hold my own in a fight against anyone with intent and better equipment. (Can boost to almost 600, though, and engineering not yet complete, so getting the heck out of Dodge will be an option, sometimes).

Thanks in advance, Commanders.

Had the same last night myself (in a Dolphin, humiliatingly), rushing to solve the eldest Templar's latest online gaming query. More easily done that you'd think!

I have never seriously considered fighting in either of my Orcas but given their high speed in normal space and good supercruise handling I wouldn’t be too worried about using one in Open.

I've been transporting fence paint from Screwfix outpost in my hauler.
Tried attacking the fence at Home Orbital, launched paint limpets, but they kept dissappearing into the hangar for refreshments.
Had to equip spraygun and paintbrushes.
Slow going, possibly need some engineering. :D(y)

I have gone the wildlife friendly approach, prune the brambles back once a year so the postie can fight through to the letterbox unscarred.
