Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The bad news, my intention to get a dedicated PC/Hotas this month went Kabooom, up in smoke,
I run on an older laptop, mouse, gamepad, and the new 30 inch samsung monitor hdmi connected in front of main screen.
small desk footprint. Not ready to build a multi screen full size space console like some others on this forum...just yet? humm.?..

Been having a nosey around the 'new' generation ship at Upaniklis, mentioned in Galnet.
Planet next to Fozard Port has plenty of VOpal hotspot, so while I'm here...

Just pulled 250mill out of my first session, had to cut it short due to a full boost into an asteroid, 23% hull (I've been messing with my controls).
I think the T-9 miners may be getting new shields!

Although the fsd was playing up a bit, we arrived safely back in the Colonia region without further mishap.I am very pleased with the ships performance. She is dandy on the turn.I must give some serious thought to shield engineering and strengthening the hull if possible.Replace the SRV bay with AFMU and we're good to go. :giggle:

Before I go shooting things, I've taken my Cobra for a bit of an upgrade for it's FWS (long range, G4). Got back home and thought "let's see how this performs!" - gasp. choke life support went bye-bye. Ah... the power plant isn't powerful enough. Forgot about that! Ha!

ETA - the fighting went very... badly. The first thing I hit was a cop. Think I'll go back to doing something I can actually do :D

If you targeted the cop this won’t help.
If you mount lasers on Turrets and use the smart munitions special for multicannons then your chances of hitting untargeted ships will be minimised as the Turrets stop shooting if something gets in the way and smart munitions self destruct to avoid hitting untargeted ships, this will reduce your theoretical maximum damage though.

What was a little frustrating was that my Mamba has a cringe-worthy jump range of 17Lys so it took four jumps to do what my Phantom would have done in one to get back home. Plus, the Mamba can't scoop. That may need rectification for future mishaps 🧠

I would buy or transfer in a scoop and Guardian FSD Booster of appropriate sizes and fit them too the Mamba for ferrying purposes or just transfer the ship around.

Performing such swaps on my Mamba gets me to 26Ly jump range and I only replaced module reinforcement which isn’t engineered so I don’t need to transfer it.

Runnnig around, performing a rather mundane task of optimising my blueprints. Dragged out the DBX due to it's superior jump range (59.4lys - I still haven't done any Guardian stuff yet) to perform said duty,

En route, I did some minimal exploration. With the amount of icy bodies there are, the bubble shouldn't be facing a hosepipe ban any time soon: just tow one in via a couple of T9's and melt it down with the power from the local Dyson sphere.

ETA Damn, that's furstrating. Why can't you just say "G5 that PP regardless of size" - I now have a G5 2C blueprint o_O:coffee::LOL:

That blueprint will work fine on any size of power pack assuming you can fit it into the ship you have in use.

Still in HIP now hunting technetium, cursing at crystal shards, this is a god damn nuisance when they get stuck on the spikes, tell me the name of the coder, I crucify him. LOL Seriously though, at times this is getting really out of hand, with every second getting stuck without any logic behind it, bad shooting, distance to crystal or anything like it, it was just a sadistic coder, that's all. The whole HIP run is a grind too, of course, what isn't in Elite except combat perhaps? I need this stuff for engineering, so no way around it or you have to grind even longer. It'll be worth it at the end to get G5 phasing lasers, deep plated armor and stuff.

My next grind already in the cards, I have not done anything Guardian related either yet.

Of all the things I have so far done, the thing I found the most “grindy” was the Guardian FSD unlock.

Its all definitely a matter of personal experience, as I know most people enjoyed Guardian things, but I just found it annoying. You have to go through the same process multiple times at the same site to get the bits and bobs you need, and it does just become tedious, or at least, it did for me.

Collecting materials otherwise has never felt grindy for me because I have just collected stuff from all over the place whilst I do other things; maybe that is the key - I had a specific goal in mind to go Guardian Grave Robbing, and so I just wanted it done. I have rarely had any other engineering goal burning at me to get done, so maybe I just haven't noticed it elsewhere :)

The crystal shards were something I just chanced on whilst coming back from a long trip to the outer rim, so they were a bonus that was a nice surprise when I found they only dropped G5 materials :D

I really ought to get on to the Guardian stuff too. Thing is, it does appear to a bit of a chore and I'm a lazy soandso. I'm back at Davs: I find it soothing - yes, sad, I know...
