I don't know - I remember yonks ago ranking up real quick at Tun's Wart just donating credits - left a bad taste though but I suppose these days courier-hopping in the boondocks is just as soul-destroying.

I don't know - I remember yonks ago ranking up real quick at Tun's Wart just donating credits - left a bad taste though but I suppose these days courier-hopping in the boondocks is just as soul-destroying.
In the early days of the game, what was considered a "rich" player? How easy/hard was it to make credits?
Well I don't remember actual figures but five years ago missions were never more than five figures I suppose. Bounties were not great either back then. I remember making my money hauling Palladium and then when powerpants dropped suddenly my trade routes became much less lucrative. Hauling imps was then the money-making trade. Then there were the CGs in the Sothis Spur and suddenly people were making loadsa credits stacking and running courier and poo missions - maybe even up to a million! (LOL)

So, less than - and not counting mining - a 10th of what it is now?
And as for mining, I just made another 147mCR in about an hour. Hmm.
I'm a Johnny-Come-Lately to the game but remember the first mission I ever did and I felt rich at the payout. I could afford a DC - I'd just been rewarded 10k.

Mining was pants when I started, happily they introduced collector limpets a couple of months later (with the powerpants release).
I was thinking about the Odyssey announcement, and re-reading what was posted by FDEV. I was wondering about how they could possibly make Odyssey a separate thing, as it appears to be.
The base game and Horizons will apparently remain as is, with VR and all that, whereas Odyssey will be a whole new part, yet somehow NOT required for playing Horizons or the base game.
How could they do it, unless...and this is my scary little thought...unless the way Odyssey works is something like this:
1) You travel to a 'social hub', land there in your ship, and then select "Disembark" from your menu
2) You 'deploy' into the hub, with a little animation of your character
3) You can take "Odyssey Enabled" missions from the mission board at the hub
4) You go on the Odyssey mission, during which you can walk and shoot and all that. But ONLY during Odyssey Enabled missions. It doesn't extend to the rest of the game.
In other words, will Odyssey be just a bolted-on set of new missions that you can walk around in? And the rest of the game remains as it is?
That would fit with what they've posted so far. But I really hope I'm wrong.

So, a bit like a trad MMORPG where you have the main world, but then you want to a bit of dungeon delving so it loads you into a sub-game kinda thang?
DID IT!!!! Promoted to Elite (Trading) and got me a Founders World Permit!
This planet is 15 earth masses, so the horizon is virtualy level with a 360 pan.Perfect for testing exterior camera flying.
It is strongly advised to disable silent running (bindings) whilst doing so for extended periods, as covas does not advise on cabin temperature when in external view

It works exactly how Horizons works. Engineers, all the Horizons content require planetary landings. You pass through it seamlessly, without noticing. Odessey will be the same, only landing on barren atmospheric world's. These will open with their content.
I've been busy on Coriolis.io getting my mind blown about the Type 7 Transporter.
Where to start. I've been looking at all of the Type's as potential exploration vessels. For fun, for excessive internals, but mostly still for fun. The Krait Phantom is my exploration vessel touchstone, so I started out by making a personalized 'Explorer Type 7' and then I tried kitting out a Phantom as similarly as possible. I was not prepared for the results.
Everywhere it mattered for an exploration vessel, the Type 7 outperformed the Phantom just a little bit. Better jump range, better overall internals. Everything except for thermal management, that being an unfortunate feature of the Type 7. I'm not worried though, there is still enough headroom left for the Type 7 to level the playing field.
That's all in all not bad for a ship almost half the price. And it really goes to show how this game can subvert expectations about two ships with two fairly stereotyped roles.

Are you sure about the jump range? I thought the Phantom was nearly 10Ly longer.
The Type 7 is a very good ship with superb handling in super cruise which makes it extremely good at defeating NPC interdiction attempts.
I hope it's more like what you describe. But I also know that FDEV is good at dashing expectations, so I'm keeping mine low
Hmm... my Phantom does 66.8LYs in one jump. It's only bested by my Jumpaconda. Thermally, the Phantom is is a peach, skimming stars quite closely for refuel. The Type 7, obviously, will put the kaibosh on cargo carrying though.
EDIT It's pretty manoeuvrable too.
EDIT 2: This has me wondering: what use is T10? Does anyone use one?

I have one rigged up for going into burning stations for rescue work, a few passenger cabins to get the ones from the hanger, a small cargo rack and collector limpets for the pods and other stuff from the burning heart of the station and all the heat sinks it can carry so I can stay there until my docking and undocking time runs low.
