Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The questions I need to answer now are:

  1. Shall I keep going?
  2. Shall I return to the Bubble?
  3. Shall I unlock those engineers I thought I'd never reach?
Sure took you long enough! ;)

1. Dunno. It'd seem a waste to not at least go check out Sag A*.
2. Nah. Bubble is Boring ;)
3. Definitely. You're here anyway, so why not pin a few extra blueprints? Particularly the G5 lightweight life support. (About that one, you might want to check Inara to see if there's an FC nearby selling those pods).

I thought I'd rushed it a bit :D

Great tip on the pods - hadn't thought of that, cheers!

Hmm... if I eqip my FC with the outfitting facility, store some modules, then deactivate the facility to reduce UC, what happens to the stuff I stored? They just become inaccessible until I reactivate the facility?

Nah - Outfitting works for you; just not for anyone who might dock at your FC. I collected all the spare parts I had scattered all over the Bubble and now they're all taking up space. I swear - I'm gonna open the thing up as a lawn sale one day. I have NINE Class One fuel scoops?! :cautious:

To be honest, the only reason I made it here first was space madness. 15,000 LY out, I jumped on the neutron highway. Still stopped at every station on the Colonia Connection, though, but they didn't even give me a ruddy T-shirt.

As to the pods, it's amazing what you can pick up from an FC sometimes!

So I can still use it even if the service is suspended?

Since we're talking about carriers, if i use the shipyard facility on a local carrier that subsequently goes into administration, what happens to any ships i might have stored upon it? Are they returned to the nearest station with a shipyard?

That is how I understand it, yes. I'd still fly them to a station nearby myself, though, but that's because I'm ever so slightly paranoid. And not wanting to even think about all of the mats I'd have to grind to copy all of my old boats. ;)

Doing first Powerplay, with a view to getting Prismatics. The godlike Cmdr Exigeous suggest sticking up on all you will ever need when you get access to them - that said, his shopping list is e x p e n s I v e....

So, any tips from you other Cmdrs who have done this grind? That will clean out my current credit balance, so will have a lot of Painite mining in my immediate future if the whole shopping list is to be collected...! Any tips gratefully received.

I'm a week behind you. So interested to see what people say. The joy of prismatics is giving you the strength of the size above. Because it's flexible it no longer means that you need always a size 8 in the biggest ships. CMDR Exiguous should really give a better answer on what he thinks all those shields are for. How many combat Cutters does one commander need? I like the good commanders work but he does come across a tad 'goal focused' sometimes. Specifically in frequent videos to collect materials where he recommends self-destruct was a method of travel.

EDIT.

He may be reading. But for someone who complains a lot about grind. He does seem to elevate it to high art.

If you're swimming in credits and don't plan on using your available module storage space for much of anything else, I'd say go for it, but I honestly can't think of ever wanting to use prismos on that many ships. I'd rather module swap on the rare occasions that I wanted to change the role of a ship I already had.

To me, prismos are "great to have, time to run when they go because they're never ever going to recharge", so I'd only ever put them on traders, miners and maybe explorers. Ships that I don't intend to ever fight in with a few exceptions. Rocking up to a CZ in a 'vette or cutter with prismos and then just camping with turrets while scooping up mats, perhaps. Or, of course, a 1v1 PvP with that nemesis that I just have to defeat just once.

But for extended combat ops, I personally wouldn't ever want them. Better to have better speed and boost to be able to run away for a minute or two while the shields recharge, then be back in the fight.

So I'd look through the ships that I would ever likely want to fly, then buy one to fit each class and be done with it. But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, good points on both - on the first, that’s why I’m asking. Emptying my credits piggy bank for all those shields and not being 💯 sure why and to what end is giving me the willies. And I confess - I’m still shirking my combat duties in lieu of hightailing it rapidly (really must sort a ‘next system keybind on my Xbox controller).

And the Exigeous guides have been really helpful on a number of topics, but I have baulked at the ship destruction to save 20 mins here and there for mat gathering... feels like spendthrift rebuys when I should be saving those for when I get ganked 😂

Yeah, well to be more accurate you as the owner don't need that service installed. It's only for other CMDRs to use.

Hmm. I'm a little confused then as I can't, at the moment store any modules. I thought you needed the outfitting service for that. I think I'm missing something here :D

I've decided not to sell my Mamba just yet, but I will be putting it back in the hangar with a tarp over it. I might as well wait until Odyssey and take a walk around it to see what it looks like up close and personal. It is a pretty ship, after all.
You are right, it is a pretty ship. I always assumed it was built for canyon running and have treated it as such, which seems a waste given my habit of 'see rock go boom' flight style. Never thought to try it in any other role.
With so much of the universe left unexplored i simply don't have the time at the moment to invest in such a specialised field is what i tell myself.

Yes agreed. 9 ships all fully engineered for certain roles. Currently reengineering some of them with lighter smaller fsds (carrier based combat ships don't need em).
Once I'm done ill head back out. It's quiet out there.
I'll return once I've had my fill hehe.
To the black we look. Longingly... out there somewhere is what we seek.
